Anyone brave enough to post their screen time figure for today?

I need to get a handle on my phone addiction. I spent hours scrolling through Facebook and reading Mumsnet to the point that my eyes sting and my thumbs hurt.

So I’ve set myself a 2 hour limit per day for the next week to see if I can manage.

I’m terribly ashamed of my current screen time average and I’m hoping by posting it here it will motivate me to change.

So mine for today is 3 hours and 48 minutes.

Anyone else brave enough to post and also wanting to cut down?

Bananasandchocolatecustard

i bought a book yesterday called “ how to break up with your phone “. I have admitted I am addicted to my phone.

I bought this a few months ago and it worked for a few weeks, but I stupidly got sucked in again one day when i was bored.
I'll read it again this weekend.

3 hours 26, quite appalled really. So much more stuff I could be doing with that time. I'd say a lot of it is spent on MN too

The DC are at their grans this weekend, so mine is higher than normal.

Yesterday was 8 hours 40 mins, or 7 hours and 12 mins if I disregard the time spent using it as a satnav.

It combines phone, iPad and Apple Watch for me - I rarely use a computer outside of work so yesterday there would have been no addition.

Mine says more than 4 hours every day, and I'm honestly not sure how that can be right. I do pick it up a few times over the course of the evening, but surely not that much?

Does it count if you're on the phone? I WFH so perhaps if calls count - plus my partner will phone me from work when he's on his breaks which could be another hour a day, but I just carry on working when I'm chatting to him - it might be right.

I also listen to white noise while I'm working sometimes, and have it open on YouTube. Would this account for it, or is it just when you're physically using your phone?

Honestly, there's no way on earth I actively use it that much! Maybe half an hour at most .. I'm not a phone person, really!

I got the app "social fever" last night. So far today I've spent 4 hours on my phone! I've been awake since 5 and it is a Sunday, if that helps with my defence Blush
This app lets you choose which apps to track. So I don't track useful things calculator or audiobooks or maps for example, but I do track social media, browsers, anything else time-sucking basically.

I am going to use it for a week to see how bad my phone habit is, then I'm going to start deleting apps or blocking them on my phone or something.

I agree with Holdingtherope - mine’s about 4 hours daily but I don’t care. I still work a full time job, exercise frequently, maintain my home, cook every night, spend time with my family and friend, read books... I don’t really feel like it stops me from doing these things

Average of 2hrs 50 a day this week. It was 4-5 hours a day which I was appalled at. Yesterday was 3hrs 22 but I was out all day at a kids event.

I’m aware it’s better than I used to be but it’s still not good.

I haven't looked at my phone today. I have spent about an hour on my iPad though.

No phone signal here, so no calls.

Waitingforciara · 09/02/2020 12:32

There's so much interesting stuff to read and learn about though, I'm not sure we should be so concerned.

I use an app called rescue time because it syncs phone and computer. No idea if it works on apple.

BTW - to the poster who quoted 43 mins - you do realise you said that at 1am, and it would only have been counting from midnight? :o

I average about 8-12 hours on weekdays :( less at the weekends. It's not great. I do tend to spend most of the evening on the computer rather than watching telly so that probably accounts for about 3-4 hours but the rest I don't really have an excuse. Sometimes I manage to get it down for a bit and then I get sucked back in again! The problem is I don't actually want to stop because I get positives from my screen use as well, it's not as simple as all of that being wasted time. Some of it is money earning, some of it is social, some of it is study, or organisation. A lot is just entertainment or habit, though.

4 hours during the day is about the max I can have and still feel what I refer to as "connected in the real world". More than that and I'm not really present. It does all add up - all the little useful things you do plus whatever downtime, breastfeeding and so on.

So I'd be happy with about a 5-7 hour amount daily. BTW only 1 hour so far today for me, and I am currently stuck under a breastfeeding baby and we have been outside running around, chucking a ball and clearing out the cellar, so I'm not being hypocritical for once!
