Anyone brave enough to post their screen time figure for today?

Gruffalosandbuffalos · 08/02/2020 21:32

I need to get a handle on my phone addiction. I spent hours scrolling through Facebook and reading Mumsnet to the point that my eyes sting and my thumbs hurt.

So I’ve set myself a 2 hour limit per day for the next week to see if I can manage.

I’m terribly ashamed of my current screen time average and I’m hoping by posting it here it will motivate me to change.

So mine for today is 3 hours and 48 minutes.

Anyone else brave enough to post and also wanting to cut down?

10 hours 16 minutes. I have a serious fucking problem.

Ifeelinclined · 08/02/2020 23:55

Mine too high as well. But to be fair, I listen to a lot of podcasts while I'm doing chores, so it may be accounting for that time too. Still, ugh.

Tinty · 08/02/2020 23:58

3 hours 15 mins and I have been at work for 9 hours so basically all evening 😞 so bad, I need to cut down.

CocoaLipbalm · 09/02/2020 00:02

6hrs 43 - but I’ve had Netflix on while doing chores, so I’m feel virtuous at my productive day, rather than the fact I’m permanently attached to my iPad!

5hr, 48....

Didnt think i had been online much....

Was on the tablet today as well...

How much has everyone spent in the last week and how often do you unlock your phone.....??? .....

managedmis · 09/02/2020 00:04

Yeah mine's bad too. Probably less than 2 hours today, more like 4 during the week (long commute)

I have no attention span these days

Ikora · 09/02/2020 00:57

3 hours box set with DH
3 hours gaming
1.5 hours MN
1.5 hour walk
Rest of day chores and chatting

tenlittlecygnets · 09/02/2020 01:01

43 minutes...

Am horrified at the hours other people spend online. What happened to conversation and quality time and reading books??

ClientQueen · 09/02/2020 02:04

@tenlittlecygnets I read a book at work today Smile and chatted to colleagues. Finished at 2pm and have been alone since so mostly been on my phone. But playing solitaire on it, chatting to friends via messenger, taking cat photos Hmm etc so not just web browsing
Job is reactive - if there's no calls, there's no work so phone is how we pass the time

RedRiverShore · 09/02/2020 02:59

6hrs 51 but it looks like stuff like music is in there so streaming Apple Music from my phone to HomePod accounts for some, at work I often read on the Kindle App which is the same a reading a book so not all needless time. Music is the highest thing on mine, MN seems to feature quite highly also so not all good.

squeekums · 09/02/2020 03:23

Few hours, I won't download the app to get exacts lol I don't need that info
Yesterday, 8 plus, I do paid online surveys so with some they go for 30min. I also study online
I'm not shocked or worried

I don't even have books with study, everything online. I read true crime online
Me and dd discuss her games, what's she built in them, we chat and play Mario on wiiu. We save the deep and meaningful for when we walk to the shops.
Me and dp chat in car, we also chat over tv and stuff we see online

You're making an awful lot of assumptions here. The first question is, what are people doing on their phones? The second is, what are people not doing that they should be doing when they're on a phone?

Once you know the answers to those questions, you can assess and judge accordingly.

A lot of my screen time is work-related, with emails, taking notes in meetings, whatsapp conversations, downloading photos for work, etc.

A lot would be watching Netflix while I wash dishes or make dinner.

I never use a computer at home, only a phone, so anything like Mumsnet or other forums adds to screen time.

I also listen to audiobooks rather than reading books, and get through quite a lot. While I listen, I play mindless phone games like Tetris which help me concentrate on the book.

Does that help you understand how some people screen time might be higher than you think Id acceptable?

RumRumRum · 09/02/2020 05:18

I'm
Already on 1hr29m for today...although in my defence I'm breastfeeding a very hungry baby who wakes every few hours, and my phone is my only aid to stop me falling asleep!

RedRiverShore · 09/02/2020 06:30

Does everyone’s include all screen time though, sometimes it’s just the phone and iPad, I also include my iMac computer but if you have Windows computer but Apple phone can they be added in together?

ElfishBiatch · 09/02/2020 06:47

Screen time also include playing music and using google maps.

Sameold2020 · 09/02/2020 06:54

Can someone please recommend a good monitoring app for android?

RedRiverShore · 09/02/2020 07:46

Screen time also include playing music and using google maps.

Yes, mine includes all my music played downstairs when I am usually doing housework but not the stuff upstairs on Echo Dot. To get an accurate figure on actual screen time it has to be separated out to get the full picture as playing music, using maps, reading books, watching TV shouldn't really be included as a lot of people use other devices for this stuff. also if you are spending all day on an Xbox or Playstation, is this included.

tenlittlecygnets · 09/02/2020 09:33

Thanks for the clarification. I hadn't thought of things like music, audiobooks or films, as I don't use my phone for them. My bad - will try not to jump to conclusions!

amaryl · 09/02/2020 10:00

Sameold-there’s one called screen time!

Bananasandchocolatecustard · 09/02/2020 11:01

I bought a book yesterday called “ how to break up with your phone “. I have admitted I am addicted to my phone.

Waitingforciara · 09/02/2020 11:10

tenlittlecygnets you said 'my bad' which is almost as awful as jumping to incorrect conclusions Grin

Holdingtherope · 09/02/2020 11:12

I don’t care, I don’t watch tv or read. I adore social media and enjoy spending time on it.

Yep I could be tidying more or doing other stuff.

Only bad if impacting your life

Holdingtherope · 09/02/2020 11:12

Bananas least it was a book and not an app!!

confusedofengland · 09/02/2020 11:17

I can only seem to find mine for either today or the total of the last week Confused. So, total of last week was 40 hours Shock, which is over 5 hours per day Blush

I know that of that, some days were higher than others. I was home with sick DC for 3 days so they will have been high. Yesterday was probably quite low as we were driving to the beach, at the beach & I read a book, so hopefully not too bad.
