So anxious, I just want to curl up into a ball and cry.

Hi all,
I am terrified of the wind and the wind is very high here, my Granny is the same, and I'm so worried about her. I was in her house earlier and I gave her a big hug, and she was shaking like a leaf. I'm at home now, and I'm so anxious and worried, I just want my Gran, but she lives 2 miles away on the other side of the town, and I have no way of getting to her. I'm so anxious and she will be too. What do I do?

Hi,
Why can’t you get to your gran?
Where abouts are you?

EddieVeddersfoxymop · 08/02/2020 19:46

Could you walk to her? Might make you both feel better? I'm hoping the wind dies down soon too, hate it.

Confuseddotcommm · 08/02/2020 19:47

Unless you are in an area with an active Red warning (don’t think any of the UK has that) could you call a cab? Once you’re there, put something light hearted on the TV, crank up the volume a little to drown out the gusts.

If you can’t do that, call her on the phone and chat. Don’t whip eachother up into a hype though.

Be reassured that this is just nature. You’re safe in your home and it cannot hurt you.

TwitcherOfCurtains · 08/02/2020 19:47

Walk there, 2 miles is nothing.

How have you both managed to get through life so far when the wind terrifies you? We're a very windy country, you must be a shaking mess the majority of the year!

mummytooneprincess · 08/02/2020 19:48

I am too OP absolutely terrified! Send I'm good thoughts your way x

poodlepoo9999 · 08/02/2020 19:49

What is it about the wind that scares you?

HollyBollyBooBoo · 08/02/2020 19:49

Just call a cab?

mummytooneprincess · 08/02/2020 19:49

Sorry that made no sense! I'm sending good thoughts your way! Xx

Getoffmylilo · 08/02/2020 20:06

I hate the wind too. I've thought of little else all day. I hope there's a way of you being with your gran, no idea where you are but 2 miles isn't too far, too far to walk, unless the wind has already arrived and you're very rural. Minicab if you're in a town? Otherwise TV/music, warmth, wine. Big hug x

Waitingforciara · 08/02/2020 20:11

Be together.

Twitcher are you always so sensitive and empathic Hmm

hellcarryingahandbag · 08/02/2020 20:18

The town is situated on a large hill, she lives on the bottom of the hill and I live at the top of the hill. We live at opposite ends of the town, and she's about 2 miles away. I can't walk to her, as I have health issues, and couldn't walk that far. I visit her once a week, and I stay overnight. I'm very anxious, I hate being so enervated and frail. What use am I to anyone, lying in bed shaking? Apologies if I've not replied, I'm trying to reply to the first few posts.

apacketofcrisps · 08/02/2020 20:23

Get a cab to hers?

TwitcherOfCurtains · 08/02/2020 20:24

Well, what do you normally do when it's windy?

hellcarryingahandbag · 08/02/2020 20:32

Thanks all, I'm frightened to go outside in the wind, I'm going to phone her. I'm worried that the wind will cause hazardous incidents.

OP posts:
hellcarryingahandbag · 08/02/2020 20:33

@TwitcherOfCurtains I usually panic, the way I am now.

WhereShallWeMoveTo · 08/02/2020 20:37

I think if you are both anxious about it and both alone then it makes much better sense to be together. Can you not get a lift to her house, if you don't drive? You can be company and distraction for one another. You stay there once a week anyway, so surely it's not that difficult to go there.

Waitingforciara · 08/02/2020 20:39

Oh Twitcher fgs

Waitingforciara · 08/02/2020 20:40

OP, you are loads of use! I bet your gran adores you for a start. Don't be so hard on yourself xx

Quirrelsotherface · 08/02/2020 20:42

The wind cannot hurt you if you are in your own home. If your gran is in her home then it cannot hurt her either. What is it you are afraid of exactly, if you are safe at home?

TwitcherOfCurtains · 08/02/2020 20:42

Phone her.

Have you tried CBT for your fear? In a lot of places you can self refer for CBT via IAPT. You'd benefit.

hellcarryingahandbag · 08/02/2020 21:20

I spoke to her and she said I really calmed her down earlier when I was with her. I feel a lot better now. And thanks to all of you especially @Waitingforciara for your kind wordsFlowers. @TwitcherOfCurtains you don't even have a modicum of empathy, do you? And neither of us are alone, she has my grandad and I've got my parents and brother.

OP posts:
TwitcherOfCurtains · 08/02/2020 21:28

No empathy because I recommended CBT? Hmm Do you not want to get over your fear?

ooonicorn · 08/02/2020 21:32

I feel for you, been terrified of the wind since I was a child. Have to be brave now for my own children but shitting myself about tomorrow. One of my children is already scared of the wind so I have to pretend it's great fun, put music on to drown out the noise and act normal x

Elbeagle · 08/02/2020 21:36

To all those scared of wind, what exactly is it that you’re scared will happen?

Butterymuffin · 08/02/2020 21:41

It's good that neither of you are alone. You'l be safe in your houses. I wouldn't try going out if she's got someone with her, but why don't you ring her and chat?
Can you go to bed with headphones on and listen to something soothing to block it out?
