How long were you pushing?

Sleepycat91 · 08/02/2020 18:49

Both of mine were prem DS was 34+5 and 4lb130z and DD was 35+1 and 5lb4oz. DS i was induced on the drip and pushed for about 10 mins and DD i dont think i pushed more than 5 times! I keep seeing posts on fb saying "i only pushed for an hour". Have i been exceptionally lucky or is it because i have little babies and labour VERY fast?

OP posts:

20 minutes with dd1 7lbs 2

14 minutes with dd2, 8lbs 1

yellowsun · 08/02/2020 18:53

Three hours! I am aged to get him out before I had any other intervention. The midwife checked the heart beat etc and he was fine so she let me get on with it.

firstimemamma · 08/02/2020 18:54

I had a nearly 9 pounder and pushed him out in 26 mins.

With my 1st it was 4 hours I had a slow labour though and she was sunny side up.

2nd was about 10mins

3rd two pushes.

PinkyU · 08/02/2020 18:54

I should add dd1’s labour was 6 hours start to delivery.

Dd2’s was 3hrs 15 minutes.

ReginaGeorgeous · 08/02/2020 18:54

DC1 was forceps, DC2 weighed 8lbs 5 and I had him with three pushes.

IJumpedAboardAPirateShip · 08/02/2020 18:55

Fascinating isn’t it? How vastly different birthing experiences were - my first was 6mins my 2nd was 4! But I didn’t have any kind of “pushing” control over my body and waves after waves of the strongest contractions, there’s no way I could have sustained much more than that

Selfsettling3 · 08/02/2020 18:55

DD1, 3 day labour and then emcs at 9cm dilated. 9lb 9oz
DD2, pushed for about an hour then then cut me (DD was in distress) she was 8lb 11oz

ArfArfBarf · 08/02/2020 18:56

I had a really short pushing stage with all three of mine. Only took a couple of pushes each time.

yellowsun · 08/02/2020 18:57

I also didn’t get the urge to push- I just pushed when it hurt. I arrived at hospital (walked as it’s over the road) fully dialysed also. Both my mum and nan had to nudge to push also!

yellowsun · 08/02/2020 18:58

*dilated
*no urge

SockQueen · 08/02/2020 18:59

DS1 1hr15 mins
DS2 maybe 10 mins? 4 contractions' worth.

Both chunky babies - 10lb and 9lb12oz respectively.

IdleLiz · 08/02/2020 18:59

40 mins at least, I had to change position for gravity.

Shahlalala · 08/02/2020 19:00

Under ten mins with each, but ridiculously long build up labour beforehand.

Crunchymum · 08/02/2020 19:01

DC1 pushed for 2 hours (51h labour)
DC2 pushed for less than 10 minutes (4 hour labour)
DC3 pushed for 5 minutes (induction but less than an hour from contractions proper to baby in arms)

All born without intervention [DC1 was close to forceps and delivered inappropriate room full of medical staff] and no tears or grazes for me!!

Crunchymum · 08/02/2020 19:01
  • inappropriate = in a
Trahira · 08/02/2020 19:02

DC1 just over an hour
DC2 and DC3 much quicker - can't remember how long exactly

Sunshine1235 · 08/02/2020 19:03

DC1 3 hours and DC2 20mins

Caribbeanescape · 08/02/2020 19:03

My DD was back to back. I was in labour for about 12 hours before I was fully dilated. I pushed for just under six hours, then I was given an episiotomy and she was delivered via forceps. It was horrendous, and my second baby was delivered by elective c-section.

weegiemum · 08/02/2020 19:21

Dd1 (9lb12) was less than an hour.

Ds (9lb3) was 5 mins

Dd2 (7lb15 - I was induced at 36+6) was about 10 mins

I can't imagine pushing for too long. With dd2 the waters went on 2nd last push right in the face of the junior doc who was delivering her. Even made me laugh!

99problemsandthecatis1 · 08/02/2020 20:05

DC1 - 4hours. He was 6lb 6oz
DC2 - c section. No way was I risking another ordeal like DC1!

EcoCustard · 08/02/2020 20:06

Dc1 pushed twice, Labour was less than an hour.
Dc2 pushed three times, lasted minutes, two hour labour.
Dc3 drip induction, one push after 30 minutes of labour it was very quick.
Dc4 pushed 3 times and for about 5 minutes again short labour of 2 hours.
All my babies have been tiny 5 lbs and under and I remember clearly the urge to push and and the feeling of them moving down.

Never experienced long periods of having to push, luckily.

Poetryinaction · 08/02/2020 20:22

Dc1 - 1 hour (back-to-back, epidural)
Dc2 - 45mins
Dc3 - 1.5hours of HELL. Back-to-back and 3rd degree tear.

No urge to push for any of them at all. Had to force myself and hated it.

EmptyFieldOfFucks · 08/02/2020 20:23

20 minutes the first time, because I have myself a few contractions off.

5ish minutes the second time, if that.

inmyshedsmoking2000 · 08/02/2020 20:25

40 mins
