Would you work if you didn't have to?

If you won the lottery or came into a life changing sum of money some other way.

I like my job fine but they wouldn't see me for dust if I won the lottery. And I would spend my days fostering kittens in my mansion.

I’d do a day a week to keep my hand in (teacher), but still have DD go spend at least three days a week with the in laws because (aside from the fact that they live for their time with her) as much as I adore her, being at home all day with a baby is HARD. Much easier now she’s working, but still hard. Hats off to all SAHPs.

WALKING, j do not send my 14mo to work.

delilahbucket · 08/02/2020 19:42

I have my own business and I really do enjoy it. Plus, I've worked so hard building it up. Both these things mean I would be really reluctant to let it go. I would likely take on staff and take more of a back seat myself rather than give it all up. I would also like to volunteer.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 08/02/2020 20:01

Yes. Split it with the kids (I'd have to take a syndicate record to get round CTT and the PET rule) but that'll take 30 minutes. Tell work I'll be off at the end of the month, then build a gaming rig that can run Elite: Dangerous in 4k. Find a low mileage Skoda Yeti, book a knee replacement, start training for the Nordkapp-Gibraltar bike ride.

Rod for your own back there thunderthighsohwoe

Yes definitely, either that or do degrees for fun. I think work would be more social though.

I really enjoy working and a sense of pulling together towards shared goals.

Chickydoo · 08/02/2020 21:08

God no!!

NoWordForFluffy · 08/02/2020 21:10

Once upon a time I'd have said yes. Now? I'd be resigning as soon as the money hit my account!

redeyetonowheregood · 08/02/2020 21:25

Yes as I love my job, but would try to reduce it so that I had a better balance and buy in more help.

Toddlerteaplease · 08/02/2020 22:36

Yes. I love my job! Peadiatric nurse.

ComeTheFuck0nBridget · 08/02/2020 22:43

No, definitely not. Not in the traditional sense anyway. I would set up a make-a-wish style charity and put in my own money but then do fund raising and grant wishes etc. I'd love it.

I'd also have a beautiful garden and chickens and more dogs and children and a huge craft room Grin

HelenaJustina · 08/02/2020 22:49

Yes, love my job, passionate about the sector.

But I would make my life easier by outsourcing cleaning and more childcare. Rather than cleaning bathrooms at 8pm on Tuesday nights and constantly juggling after school clubs, childminders and grandparents

Essexgirlupnorth · 08/02/2020 22:51

Yes though I think I would go back to university and do a master rather than my current job. Think I would get bored being at home all the time got very lonely on maternity leave

Craftycorvid · 08/02/2020 23:00

No way! I love my job and would miss it profoundly. I’d just do it for free. I’d want to help my friends out, start a charitable enterprise, plus all the usual things like travelling.

Craftycorvid · 08/02/2020 23:01

Oh, I think I meant yes, I’d carry on working! Blush

RiddleyW · 08/02/2020 23:04

I’d do something but not the job I do now. It’s pretty cool for a job (well paid, reasonably flexible, stimulating) but if money no object then I’d do a frivolous degree, some pro bono, learn to paint.

screamingvalhalla · 08/02/2020 23:11

Yes , I don't need to work but I do pt

Macca84 · 08/02/2020 23:14

No, fuck that. I work my arse off at the minute to maintain a comfortable life as a single mum. I'd raise money and donate to local charities though. Might consider paying someone to throw a milkshake over BJ also Grin

MrsAJ27 · 08/02/2020 23:15

No fucking way

Itstheprinciple · 09/02/2020 09:40

OP - it's my dream to not work and spend my days fostering kittens too!

SimonJT · 09/02/2020 09:43

Yes, but I would go back to being a rugby player as I could afford the huge drop in income.

OldMumYoungNan · 09/02/2020 09:48

No I wouldn’t work.

But I would get very busy with a couple of expensive hobbies that I could only ever imagine doing now.

SoftSetPlum · 09/02/2020 10:05

Absolutely no way would I continue working. God, there is so much more to life! People who say they would be bored without their job simply lack imagination Grin

thecatneuterer · 09/02/2020 10:12

I haven't had to to work for around 20 years and wouldn't dream of doing paid work. However my voluntary charity work has taken over my life and I rarely have a spare minute. I would love not to do most of that too, but there is no one else to do it and I suppose it's a calling. If for some reason that work became unnecessary then I'd be very happy just having fun. Work wouldn't cross my mind.

RUOKHon · 09/02/2020 10:15

If I came into a lot of money by winning the lottery or similar, I’d set up my own charity for women and children fleeing domestic violence and coercive control.
