I’d love to live at the seaside

Lipperfromchipper · 06/02/2020 19:00

Yes at least once a week.

Glassio · 06/02/2020 19:04

every day, we have a great beach / beaches to walk the dog and get a coffee , relax, I love it.

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 06/02/2020 19:09

DM lives by the sea . 6 or 7 minute drive, perhaps 10 in Summer .
If she ventures there in Summer its early and usually she combines a supermarket trip at the same time . Autumn is a time DM likes to walk along the prom and the pier . I personally like Winter at the beach but that is as a visitor .

Sh05 · 06/02/2020 19:10

I've always wondered about this so glad someone has asked.
I also always wonder if you get sick of the sand.

Savvyblonde · 06/02/2020 19:10

Yes. I have lived 5 minutes walk from the beach for 20 years and walk the dog there every day. Our life revolves around the beach from Xmas day gathering of new bikes galore and most evenings after school in summer for an ice cream and a play on the beach. The beach to us was the equivalent of the local park to most. I love the beach and can't imagine not living within a walk of it, my favourite time is now, when the waves are crashing and the sea is malevolent.

danadas · 06/02/2020 19:11

Pretty much every day. I hope I never live too far from the sea.

Strokethefurrywall · 06/02/2020 19:15

Live on a Caribbean island, don't get there enough frankly! Twice a month? Maybe more if I throw in a weekend sunrise walk.

Go through phases though, some months we go with the kayak and the kids every weekend, others we won't step foot from one month to next.

SwedishEdith · 06/02/2020 19:18

I was about 5 minutes walk away for 7 years and rarely went. I may have gone more if I'd had kids then or a dog. But I did like being able to see the sea. Too many people in the summer.

Clymene · 06/02/2020 19:22

I do sometimes get sick of the sand @Sh05 but I don't sit on it! I also have a short haired dog, tiled floors, a downstairs shower and an outside tap.

These are all crucial to not despairing about sand. Finding sand in the bed drives me BONKERS

itwaseverthus · 06/02/2020 19:24

I go around once a week, more in summer. Even on a cold day, nothing nicer than a long walk and then a flask of coffee at the end of it watching the sun set.

weegiemum · 06/02/2020 19:35

Used to live near a rocky shore and 15 mins from some spectacular sandy beaches, we were down at the shore 2-3 times a week when the dc were small, more if the weather was good. Stones, shells, seaweed, crabs - perfect even in snowsuits and wellies!

Bigger beaches less often, always when we had visitors.

BestIsWest · 06/02/2020 19:39

I live near the coast. The nearest beach is a 15-20 minute drive but the coastal path alongside the estuary is five minutes from my house. I’m there three or four times a week. I adore the changing tides and the spectacular bleakness of it.

ThreeGirlsPlayCharades · 06/02/2020 20:22

walk the dogs every weekend, winter and summer. Summers i like picking the DCs up from after school clubs then we go and have dinner (picnic) on the beach nearest our house. Maybe twice a week we do that. DS is into various water sports so he does that. We live in a touristy area and I love it in the high season with all the excitement and action and love it in the low season when the beaches are cold, deserted and blustery.

Thebookswereherfriends · 06/02/2020 20:32

I grew up in a seaside town and only really went there once I was a teenager and would go with my mates to mess about.
I now live in a seaside village and from the moment I moved here go down a lot. Especially now we have a child, we go down in winter in sunny days and take hot choc, in the summer we go down after school and at weekends a lot. We might not go abs often if we didn’t live so close - it’s a 10 min walk.

DustyOwl · 07/02/2020 00:02

Totally take it for granted. Swim in the sea at least once a week. Kids on the beach all summer, sail on the sea 3 times a week. I try to tell the kids that going to the beach after school is not something everyone can do, they don't believe me. I even chose my Uni because of the sea. I have lived in cities and I didn't realise why I was so sad until I went back to the sea! (It's a bit weird, I know.)

negomi90 · 07/02/2020 00:08

I live a short walk from a large supermarket next to a beach. I love the fact that walking to my daily shop can involve a 5min diversion to walk along by the wave line. I go a few times a week.
I also drive along the coast road to work most days.
I see the sea multiple times a day and am walking next to it a few times a week (this is in Winter).
I have no dogs or small children.

Aus84 · 07/02/2020 00:16

I do (but TBH don't know how our beaches in Aus compare to yours). I love hearing the ocean from home. We'll go on the weekends and some afternoons when the kids don't have sport. It's the only place I can go and feel like I have literally no problems in the world.

Crawley65 · 07/02/2020 00:16

I moved to a seaside town when dc were just starting school. I specifically bought a house near the seafront so we could walk along the beach on the way home everyday.

I now walk the dog along there most days. Don’t really go and sit on the beach in the Summer.,

MaidenMotherCrone · 07/02/2020 00:17

The beach is at the end of my road.

It's full of dog shit and doggers.

I don't go.......ever.

Llareggub · 07/02/2020 00:19

I have to see the sea everyday or I get a bit fidgety. I walk along the beach pretty much every day, usually less so in the summer as it’s so busy.

aurynne · 07/02/2020 01:12

Almost every day. I love the beach, but i love even more that I live in a country that is not overpopulated, and beaches are a place to be enjoyed, not to be suffered.

Also, my closest beach is 7 min away and is dog-friendly :)

EL8888 · 07/02/2020 01:30

Yep we live less than half a mile from the beach and go all the time. Summer and winter. It’s often better in the winter as it’s quieter

squeekums · 07/02/2020 02:07

From my house i can walk to the jetty, a beach and a boat ramp in 10 - 20 min
Im not a beach swimmer here (aus) though, sharks, blue ringed octopus, discarded fishing hooks put me off, plus seaweed, yuk
dp uses the boat ramp and jetty for fishing
We putting in a pool for swimming lol

There a nicer swimming beach about a 30 min bike ride or 10 in car away. Has a walking trail from my town to it, much less hooks and octopus but still sharks and seaweed

EBearhug · 07/02/2020 02:59

I miss living by the sea, and I especially miss being able to go for a swim after work in summer (by which time, most of the tourists have cleared off.)

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 07/02/2020 04:55

I used to live near the beach. Never went as I found it very boring. Nothing to do! Look at the sea for five mins and that's it. I don't even like beaches in Holliday.
