I’d love to live at the seaside

I grew up near the seaside and went to school in a resort town. We often used to hang around on the prom/beach after school. In school holidays we spent a fair amount of time at the beach too. As a young adult I had a friend with a speed boat and a group of us used to go water skiing quite often. I now live in the Midlands (can't get further from the sea in the UK) and miss the seaside. I have often hinted to DH that it would be lovely to retire to the coast but thought it had always fallen on deaf ears until I overheard him telling one of his friends the other day that Bigbluebus would like to live on the coast! So maybe I'll get back there one day.

I live a 5 minute walk from the beach and go everyday to walk the dog (sometimes twice a day). What I love about going everyday is how much you notice the shifting sands and subtle changes that occur over the year with different tides.
In the summer there is nothing better than pitching up with the kids and spending as long as we like there knowing we walk home in a few minutes. And meeting up with friends and DC for evening picnics and wine is just the best.
I couldn't live anywhere else now.

When I lived a two minute walk from a massive sandy beach I visited daily, with dog and/or small children. We usually walked along the prom to get to and from school. As a child I lived in a town with a fantastic beach with dunes and often went alone (in the days when eight was old enough... ), and my paternal grandparents lived immediately across the road from amazing rockpools which I was also allowed to explore alone. Love beaches, though I've never enjoyed the stoney ones.

I live a 5 minute walk from the beach and we're always down there, unless it's raining.

Nothing nicer than some fresh sea air to clear the cobwebs away.

Dowser · 06/02/2020 16:28

Not really..but if we’ve been in to town then I’ll do a drive past to see the sea and my god we gave plenty of it here..miles and miles
I’m more moved by hills, mountains, sunshine on trees and greenery

Just come back from lake Windermere today and missing it already

ivfbabymomma1 · 06/02/2020 16:30

I'm about 10 mins from the beach and I walk my dogs and baby a lot!

countingto10 · 06/02/2020 16:37

Live 200 yards from beach, never go on actual beach but like to walk along the prom on a Sunday morning in the summer.

Can smell the seaweed from my garden when the tide is out (you might be able to guess where I am as town used to be renowned for its smelly seaweed problem).

ItsAllTheDramaMickIJustLoveIt · 06/02/2020 16:49

Not as much as I’d like to.

Felipa · 06/02/2020 16:55

I live about a ten minute drive from a beach. Not close enough to walk or I would be there every day. I love the sounds and the smells, I get an instant feeling of calm every time I get to a beach.
My dream is to have a cottage by the sea but I make do with renting one for a week each summer.

Whynosnowyet · 06/02/2020 16:59

I live a stone's throw. Take ddogs down every day.
Actually I hate sand and tourists so winter season is better imo! Very therapeutic ime.

insancerre · 06/02/2020 17:02

No, it’s too windy and we have no sea, the tide only comes in about twice a year

adaline · 06/02/2020 17:04

We're five minutes away from a choice of about four beaches.

We go 2-3 days a week with the dog.

NorthEndGal · 06/02/2020 17:08

At least 2 or 3 times a week, more when I am feeling well.
I make art from what I find, made this the other day

ilovepixie · 06/02/2020 17:36

I live in a seaside resort. Don't go to the beach much in summer as it's too crowded and dogs aren't allowed. Go lots in winter though. Nothing like wrapping up and going a long walk along the beach on a cold day.

SapphosRock · 06/02/2020 17:39

Yes. Live five minutes from a beach. Great for jogging and walking. Got a beach hut where we spend most weekends in the summer. Our home is small and expensive and we don't have a garden but it's worth it to be so near the beach.

Bunnylady54 · 06/02/2020 17:42

I live in Cornwall & I don’t go to the beach much - not sure why as I love it all year round & love swimming in the sea. This needs to be remedied!

The beach is at the end of my road, we only go a couple of times in the summer

Glassio · 06/02/2020 17:52

every day, we have a great beach / beaches to walk the dog and get a coffee , relax, I love it.

Carpathian2 · 06/02/2020 18:24

I live about 10 minutes drive from the sea in each direction, but rarely go. It takes about 2 hours to drive to a decent beach, as opposed to a bit of shore where I am. The beaches local to me are notorious for dog poo and the only time I took my dog he was sick from drinking the water!

Not for me, I may as well live in the midlands!

Powerplant · 06/02/2020 18:38

All the time when the kids were little. It was great after school when a lot of the children used to go down with their mums. It was a magical place to bring them up. We used to know the quieter beaches to go in the summer too

PickledLilly · 06/02/2020 18:51

Lots of lovely beaches where I live. Go with the dog and kids most weekends for a stroll but not as keen in the height of summer when it’s heaving with tourists.

MotherHeggy · 06/02/2020 18:58

I live in a seaside town, the beach is about a 15 minutes walk away. I can't remember the last time I went along the sea front let alone the beach.

Clymene · 06/02/2020 18:59

Most days with the dog. Tend to avoid in summer because it's too crowded but will go and hang out at one of my friends' beach huts then it feels less of a slog. Kids can muck about in the sea and we can sit in comfort outside the hut slightly away from the hoi polloi
