I’m 5ft1.5 and everyone calls me tiny

Is it really that short? I know it’s on the shorter end of adult female height but it’s hardly a midget/dwarf size is it?

My partner is 5ft11 and everyone he knows tells him that about me and people I know often comment it too. I don’t think nearly 5ft2 is all that uncommon. Even average height seems to be only 5ft3 / 5ft4 for women in the UK.

I find a lot of women are only about 1-2 inches taller than me so visually look like the same height as me but even they think I’m tiny.

I am fairly skinny too (on thinner side of healthy BMI) but for some people being thin makes them look taller and I have narrow shoulders and a 28 inch rib cage which is probably adding to the small stature to the point I feel self conscious about it.

I don't go on about being cute and teeny either!
Anyone who does that is clearly ridiculous.
I'm only 5 foot as I lost 2 inches when I broke my back so it's kind of hunched, even when I try and stand up straight.
Cute, I am not!

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 04/02/2020 23:25

And no I don’t put ob a lickle voice

But i have always had people being protective towards me even now I am oldish I put it down to height

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 04/02/2020 23:26

On not ob ...

URPS · 04/02/2020 23:38

The only fucking question you have asked is 'Is it really that short'.

Well yes, yes it fucking is.

Disclaimer: I'm 6 foot

TinklyLittleLaugh · 04/02/2020 23:39

I’m 5’2”, size 3 feet and very petite and have never given any thought to being small. I find it quite irritating when people (always men) go on about it.

My DH is 6’2” and DS1, as a little lad, always used to say we were like Princess Leia and Han Solo.

CorianderLord · 04/02/2020 23:40

I'm female average height is actually 5'5 now.

It sounds like you're not just short but also proportionally little. I knew someone at school like you, she was 5'1 but her frame was just slimmer/smaller so she really looked tiny even though there were other girls who were shorter than her.

BohoBunney · 04/02/2020 23:50

5foot 0 and yeah I’m shorter than pretty much everyone I know except my little mam who is 4’10. I do get mistaken for a younger person despite being 32, I used to work at a university and would harassed endlessly around student committee voting time. People (mainly men) have tried to assert their dominance over me in the workplace or on the street but I’m feisty so they don’t try a second time. I will come at you like a fucking spider monkey Grin

theThreeofWeevils · 05/02/2020 00:29

I seldom see people shorter than you, 'Lolita', but I've tripped over a few.

I worked with a few women who were not particularly tall, some of them sort of your height, and do you know what? They didn't make a 'thing' of it. Neither did anyone else, as far as I am aware. Is your (lack of) height the most interesting thing about you?

CharityDingle · 05/02/2020 00:47

I work with a woman who is a little taller than me who frequently squeezes herself between two people in meetings saying 'oo I'm only lickle' in a little girlie voice. I actually fear I may beat her to death one day.

No court would convict you, IMO.

CassidyStone · 05/02/2020 03:23

Why the creepy username OP?

Do you like to think you could be mistaken for a child?

You're making a big deal out of something most of us wouldn't give a toss about.

DearHappy · 05/02/2020 06:32

I have just read a few sources that say 5’3’’ is the average height for a woman in the uk and others say 5’4’’.

Stabbitha1 · 05/02/2020 06:41

I have known very slim and short women going on and on about how small they are, how they fit into x blah blah blah.
So boring.

Shamazing · 05/02/2020 06:43

But i have always had people being protective towards me.

No one has ever tried to be 'protective' of me for my height. Though that could be because of the 'dont fucking patronise me' vibes oozing from my every pore.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 05/02/2020 06:46

It's all about perspective. I'm 5ft7. Taller than average for a woman and I like Converse style trainers. My friend is 6ft2, (shortest in her family) and lives very tall heels. I feel very small next to her... But when I'm with my DH, who is only an inch taller than me, I feel normal. DH feels short at work, where the the average is about 6ft.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 05/02/2020 06:47

You
Again
Tiny little poster apparently who thinks being childlike and having Lolita as a username isn't just a bit weird and inappropriate

heidbuttsupper · 05/02/2020 06:48

I'm 5ft. Late DH was 6'4. No one cared.

WateryFowls · 05/02/2020 06:50

I'm the same height but I'm fat so I don't seem as short to people, I think. But I hate walking alongside people, I feel like a small child looking up at them.

lotusbell · 05/02/2020 06:52

Yes, at nearly 40 I get comments on it all the time. My son at nearly 13 thinks it's hilarious hes as tall as me until I mention that yeah, most people are, hardly makes him a giant. Grew up (pardon the pun) with others leaning on my shoulder as I was the perfect height etc, as a kid I used to always be the one to sneak under the fence to retrieve lost footballs, that kind of thing. Once kicked a boy in my class in the balls for calling me 'shrimp' - typical feisty short girl!
Was quite defensive about it as I got older, especially when people would say, often at the point if introduction " God, you're small arent you?" To which I'd usually respond "what? Oh shit, I've shrunk again, I was 6ft 2 when I went to bed last night!".
At college I loved being able to buy and get into kids clothes but I then filled out and now I'm.short and fat! The short jokes are water off a duck's back and just a bit tedious when you've had a lifetime of it. But this still makes me chuckle

I’m 5ft1.5 and everyone calls me tiny
monstersltd · 05/02/2020 06:54

I'm nearly six foot so to me you are tiny, sorry.

TheMarzipanDildo · 05/02/2020 06:55

I’m 5’2. Loads of people are shorter than me actually. It’s really not that small.

lotusbell · 05/02/2020 06:57

Oh and I dont think I've ever known a short person 'use' their height or lack of it, in any way. Definitely not cute, or dinky or ickle me.

Newmetoday · 05/02/2020 06:58

themarzipandildo

It really is. I’m 5ft 3 and rarely meet anyone shorter than me

Teateaandmoretea · 05/02/2020 06:59

Yes you are short but there isn't anything wrong with that it's just height.

Anyone who patronises or judges anyone else for what they look like is a dick and the problem is theirs.

GrumpyHoonMain · 05/02/2020 07:00

It is short. Average height, 5 ft 4.5, is the 50th percentile of adult heights in the UK. That means 50% of UK women are taller.

AJPTaylor · 05/02/2020 07:03

I am 5 1
Dh is 6 2
I only think of myself as short when in the company of a group of tall people.
Or when buying trousers.
