I’m 5ft1.5 and everyone calls me tiny

Is it really that short? I know it’s on the shorter end of adult female height but it’s hardly a midget/dwarf size is it?

My partner is 5ft11 and everyone he knows tells him that about me and people I know often comment it too. I don’t think nearly 5ft2 is all that uncommon. Even average height seems to be only 5ft3 / 5ft4 for women in the UK.

I find a lot of women are only about 1-2 inches taller than me so visually look like the same height as me but even they think I’m tiny.

I am fairly skinny too (on thinner side of healthy BMI) but for some people being thin makes them look taller and I have narrow shoulders and a 28 inch rib cage which is probably adding to the small stature to the point I feel self conscious about it.

Lolita. Yeah, baby.

BillieEilish · 04/02/2020 21:45

I think you are short, yes. You are under average in height.

My 11 DD is taller than you and she is short to me.

But so what? You are the height you are. Tall is no better than skinny which is no better than young. So many hurdles these days.

DearHappy · 04/02/2020 21:45

Haha that made me laugh but I have never said it.

Lordfrontpaw · 04/02/2020 21:46

Not in Scotland! My big sister is under 5” and she is very petite. I’m nearly a foot taller

Sagradafamiliar · 04/02/2020 21:49

Good grief, shamazing! I'll give you the alibi.

Gemma2019 · 04/02/2020 21:50

Well I’m only 5ft 1.2783 so you seem really tall compared to me

AuntieMarys · 04/02/2020 21:50

Yes you are short.
I am 6 feet. I am tall.

HalfManHalfLabrador · 04/02/2020 21:51

I’m 5ft and I’m the shortest woman I know. I would very rarely see strangers shorter than me.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 04/02/2020 21:53

If the average woman in the UK is 5’3”, why on earth is the average trouser length now 32” instead of 30”?

Sunflower20 · 04/02/2020 21:56

I'm 5ft1, definitely pretty short anywhere in the world!

BillieEilish · 04/02/2020 21:56

teenagers I see make me feel short and I am 5'9/10'

As a population we are getting taller. Better nutrition etc. Visit cottages built for the Victorians and you will bang your head Grin

Fannia · 04/02/2020 21:57

I'm 5' and generally the shortest but I work with a lady who is 4'10 and enjoy making short jokes and asking her if I can reach something down for her. It's great. She loves it too and looks like this Grin

DareDevil223 · 04/02/2020 21:58

I work with a woman who is a little taller than me who frequently squeezes herself between two people in meetings saying 'oo I'm only lickle' in a little girlie voice. I actually fear I may beat her to death one day.

@Shamazing not a court in the land would convict you Grin

Istillgetjealous · 04/02/2020 21:58

I’m 5’10” so yes that’s very short to me!
5’4” is the average I think

stairway · 04/02/2020 22:02

I am your height , I feel short amongst tall people but around women of south Asian origin generally not. I hate peoples’ comments. They can be unpleasant. Last month someone said I was too short to do my job. It’s more environmentally friendly to be short Wink

darktriad · 04/02/2020 22:31

I'm 5 ' 3 and the ones who comment are all just one inch taller. I think they are projecting their insecurities (tall folk never comment)

HandsOffMyLangCleg · 04/02/2020 22:36

I'm 5ft 1. Yes, we are short - surprised you've not realised this before!

It's regularly pointed out by my tall aunt in a negative way.
Very annoying in supermarkets and overhead luggage though Confused

IHaveBrilloHair · 04/02/2020 22:36

I'm 5"0, my bf is 5"2.
It's just heights, not a thing to bother about.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 04/02/2020 22:41

Yes it's pretty short, but I'm 5'10 and people call me huge. I am pretty tall and have only been comfortable enough to wear heals for about 2 years. I've stopped giving a fuck what people think. Men especially like to comment on my height.
I have a slight hunch in my neck though from slouching my whole growing days. Wished for nothing more than to be smaller.

EnidButton · 04/02/2020 22:52

Yeah it's short. You're not tiny though are you. I'm a 28 inch bra band too and 5 inches taller so it's not that.

GulliBelle · 04/02/2020 22:54

OP are you one of those women who say I'm '5foot one and a half, and don't forget the half inch cos it's wery important' n an annoying lickle girl voice.

Funny how you never get men banging on about how short they are in a 'aww bless! 'm so cute' manner.

Bluerussian · 04/02/2020 23:07

Average height of a woman in the UK is 5ft 4.7in.

I'm 5'5" so pretty average.

The op is on the short side but so what? People are rude sometimes. My husband was 6'3" and big, I've heard people say, "He doesn't get any smaller does he?" and the like. It gets tedious after a while but he wasn't that bothered.

Op, 5'2" is fine.

20CMB20 · 04/02/2020 23:08

Why do short women always bang on about how cute and teeny tiny they are? Do you say things like 'Room for a little 'un?'

I have never "banged on" about being "cute and teeny tiny" . I never think about being short (unless I read a thread like this), and fortunately I don't come across the kinds of idiots people who feel the need to comment on other people's stature. So there is absolutely no risk of me making pukeworthy comments about being a "little 'un".

Not all short people are tossers.
@DareDevil223

DareDevil223 · 04/02/2020 23:13

@20CMB20 fair point, I should have qualified that with a 'some'. I certainly don't think all short people are tossers.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 04/02/2020 23:14

I’m 5’2

I get quite a few comments on how small I am. I’m a bit obsessed with people’s height. Where I work many of the men are 6’3 or over I feel very small

Most ex’s have been 6ft + not that I particularly like very tall men

I like being small though not so much now I am over weight starting to resemble a weeble wobble
