Shocked at wraparound care price

Have been helping a crowd with some issues and we’ve been looking at various things - one thing that came up was the cost of wraparound care ! £80 per week per child !
Is that average?
Are childminders generally cheaper ?

I'm not sure why you're trying to help a friend if you've zero knowledge? Four quid an hour is not expensive for someone to look after your child
How much do you think it should be? Confused

Frazzled2207 · 04/02/2020 08:59

We are in Manchester and ours 7.30-6 every day is £80 which is very high for around here. But everyone seems to work part-time and/or use grandparents a lot round here so no one uses it every day.

It's £15 after school (no matter what you use, even if it's ten minutes, but can be nearly 3 hours) and £5-£8 in the morning depending how early you need it. So £100-£115 per child

It works out cheaper per hour than any other childcare I've used, though. Childminder charged £6.25 an hour, and nurseries have charted £5-£6 an hour. I think it's only a shock to pay £4 an hour if you haven't paid for childcare before. My childcare bills have exceeded £1000 a month for one child at times, and more for my whole brood (I've got 3 kids). It is expensive.

Isn't the OP going over her friend's finances in general? I have loads of mates who would be shit hot in terms of telling me what I could do better with most of my bills, but inevitably everyone has something they don't know about.

I don’t want my kids to be looked after someone on a shit wage either. I want better-subsidised childcare, that is fair to the provider. I still think you’re being disingenuous to say you’re “confused” about why people are horrified at the cost of childcare.

mogtheexcellent · 04/02/2020 14:00

After 4 years of 1200pcm nursery fees the 240 pound bill for breakfast and afterschool club makes me feel very rich! Its 15.50 per day 4 days a week.

It's a non profit group and they do an amazing job.

JKScot4 · 04/02/2020 14:02

That’s potentially 20 hours pw so £4ph, very cheap.
