Another I'm in A&E, anyone fancy a chat thread?

I've had a cold this week, decided to buy day and night nurse (never tried before, on recommendation of colleague) to counter it. Worked brilliantly on my cold, but it totally killed my appetite and gave me dry mouth and a racing heart. Since the literature said to stop taking it and see a Dr if you have loss of appetite, tried to get a docs appointment this afternoon but no joy. Decided to see if my appetite came back on its own.

Well this evening my upper abdomen has started swelling up and is quite painful. 111 quickly sent me down to A&E. Never had to come to A&E before and there's no-one who can come with me (family in other part of country, boyfriend on different continent!) so I'm sitting on my own and quite scared to be honest. I've only ever had to come to hospital for routine things (tonsils out).

I've seen a nurse who's sent me to wait to see a doctor. The wait is killing me :( obviously there are other patients here who will also be feeling just as bad.

I brought The Testaments with me since I haven't got round to reading it yet but I can't concentrate.

Anyone else up?

Oh and the nurse hooked me up to an ECG and I'm still finding sticky tabs!! They get everywhere.

That all sounds most unpleasant.. hope you don’t have to wait long to be seen. Though The Testaments should keep you going! I haven’t read it either; got a huge pile of books to get through.

Imtootired · 01/02/2020 02:53

Hi I’m in Australia so it’s morning here. My baby is sleeping and I should be cleaning but on my phone instead. Do they know what it might be? Did you google reactions to the medication?

Thanks @MadamePewter - it was the biggest book in my unread pile and planning for the worst case scenario I decided it was the one to bring!

I've tried to avoid Dr Google @Imtootired and stuck to the leaflet which came with the medicine, but given the list of side effects and the location of the swelling and pain I'm a bit concerned it might be my liver.

Sorry to hear you're having a bad time! Hopefully you won't have to wait long to see a doctor!

Lockheart · 01/02/2020 03:00

Thanks @Mrsmummy90!

Good plan. I need to get on and read something to talk about at book group next week.. I’ve been reading Three Men in a Boat as a relaxing middle of the night kindle book for the waking up in the wee small hours. And mumsnetting, obviously

Lockheart · 01/02/2020 03:05

I don't think I've heard of Three Men In A Boat - what's it about?

Do let us know how you fare out!

BigGreenBaskets · 01/02/2020 03:07

Hope you get seen soon OP! Are you in pain? Keep us updated.

I'm up feeding 5 month old DC2. Second feed of the night which is a million times better already than last night where we had 6 night feeds Hmmbloody sleep regressions!

I've still not read The Testaments. One day I'll get some more sleep and have my evenings back for that wonderful luxury of reading!

MadamePewter · 01/02/2020 03:10

@Lockheart it’s a classic tale of three very unoutdoorsy men taking a trip on the river. It is quite dated but very funny and has the best description of camping I’ve ever read 😃 It was recommended to me as a soothing distraction for this time of night

MadamePewter · 01/02/2020 03:11

@BigGreenBaskets sometimes I miss mine being babies, but definitely not the night feeds!

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 01/02/2020 03:12

I’m up! Major anxiety means I can’t sleep. Desperately want to drive and collect my DD who is on a trip but would love to chat until morning when hopefully I’ll feel a bit calmer.

Hope you get sorted soon OP! I love night nurse usually.

Lockheart · 01/02/2020 03:14

It sounds like my kind of book! I'll have to check it out.

I'm in a bit of pain, my abdomen is sore where it's swollen - enough to be worried but not rolling on the floor in agony. I'm mostly just feeling very out of sorts - my heart is racing and feeling a bit dizzy. How much of that is down to a) my cold b) fear at being in A&E or c) something needing urgent attention is hard to tell!

OP posts:
Lockheart · 01/02/2020 03:15

It came highly recommended @GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat so it seems to work for most people but perhaps not me.

Odd as I have no known allergies or sensitivities and am generally bomb-proof.

I hope you feel better soon! I’m currently struggling to sleep here on the ward . My chest is so sore and tight and the cough I have is driving me mad and making me sick!
It’s so boring when you’re by yourself isn’t it !

thickwoollytights · 01/02/2020 03:20

I hope they get you sorted soon OP Thanks

Lockheart · 01/02/2020 03:24

Thanks all - still waiting to see a doctor. I don't mind waiting really but I wish I had someone with me!

OP posts:
MadamePewter · 01/02/2020 03:27

I get a mental heart rate by just stepping anywhere near a doctor.. but alert them if you feel worse.

2018SoFarSoGreat · 01/02/2020 03:36

I'm with you. Relax and wait.

Lockheart · 01/02/2020 03:43

Thank you, I'm trying. My boyfriend being in a different timezone does at least mean he's awake and can message, although he's travelling so he drops in and out.

OP posts:
PatricksRum · 01/02/2020 03:44

How are you getting On OP?

MadamePewter · 01/02/2020 03:45

Whereabouts is he? Does he travel for work?

Lockheart · 01/02/2020 03:45

Still waiting here! It's not super busy, pretty quiet in fact, but of course I don't know what doctors are dealing with behind closed doors and I'm sure there are more urgent cases than me.

OP posts:
Lockheart · 01/02/2020 03:46

He's American, he spends about half his working year in London though which is how we met.
