Another I'm in A&E, anyone fancy a chat thread?

I've had a cold this week, decided to buy day and night nurse (never tried before, on recommendation of colleague) to counter it. Worked brilliantly on my cold, but it totally killed my appetite and gave me dry mouth and a racing heart. Since the literature said to stop taking it and see a Dr if you have loss of appetite, tried to get a docs appointment this afternoon but no joy. Decided to see if my appetite came back on its own.

Well this evening my upper abdomen has started swelling up and is quite painful. 111 quickly sent me down to A&E. Never had to come to A&E before and there's no-one who can come with me (family in other part of country, boyfriend on different continent!) so I'm sitting on my own and quite scared to be honest. I've only ever had to come to hospital for routine things (tonsils out).

I've seen a nurse who's sent me to wait to see a doctor. The wait is killing me :( obviously there are other patients here who will also be feeling just as bad.

I brought The Testaments with me since I haven't got round to reading it yet but I can't concentrate.

Anyone else up?

Oh, like in Catastrophe, the tv show. Though, actually that’s not a great example of a relationship 😃

Lockheart · 01/02/2020 03:53

Haha possibly a good job I haven't seen it then!

Unfortunately we haven't seen each other for a while and not sure when we'll see each other next at this point - he's really lovely but I think we're both aware we might need to walk away from this if it becomes completely impractical. Long distance is difficult.

Hope you get seen soon, not nice having to wait by yourself.

LDRs are difficult, but sounds like you're having a nice time with him just now. But not handy at times like these! Hope you get seen soon, quite a wait

Lockheart · 01/02/2020 04:09

Yep, still waiting here. The police have brought a couple of patients in who will need priority and the idiots sitting in the corner have decided to start playing music from their phone Hmm

Another one stuck in a and e. Wait is 5 hours apparently.

SpeckledyHen · 01/02/2020 04:53

Are you still waiting OP ?
I’m taking a relative to Heathrow at 6 o’clock and have woken a bit too early .
I was in A & E on Christmas Day night from 2000 until 0430 on Boxing Day morning with another relative . Hope your wait isn’t so long .

Gilead · 01/02/2020 04:54

How’s it going?

Lockheart · 01/02/2020 05:04

Still waiting unfortunately. Someone sat next to me asked a doctor as they went past and apparently they only have a very skeleton staff on in the early hours so the wait will be a while.

I got here about 1.45, saw a nurse about 2 I think. Hopefully seeing someone soon - the target is supposed to be 4 hours isn't it(!).

Managing to read? I fell asleep briefly, weird dream and back awake 🙄

Lockheart · 01/02/2020 05:19

Not yet! I wish I was in bed, it's chilly in here and I'm so tired.

Frownette · 01/02/2020 05:25

Sorry it's cold. Did you get a hot drink from the machine?

Bitofnamechanging · 01/02/2020 05:29

I hope you're ok op. I'm awake and happy to hang around.

In a way it's good that you're being left to wait. My son was brought straight in and into resus in December Shock

AwdBovril · 01/02/2020 05:29

Hope you get seen soon OP. DH helpfully woke me up when he came back from the loo at 3, can’t get back to sleep as the wind is really loud (in a top floor flat). Have to spend the weekend cleaning our old house that we just moved out of, so we will (hopefully) not get our deposit docked. Really should be sleeping but that ship sailed, have tea & toast instead.

Lockheart · 01/02/2020 06:06

No hot drink machine! Just a water fountain.

I've just been given a thorough check over by a lovely doctor who prodded at my stomach in every way imaginable. She thinks it's muscular (although not a hernia) and is probably unrelated to the side effects from the medicine, it's just an unfortunate coincidence. Happily she's not concerned about the med side effects; I was hooked up to another ECG and although my pulse is fast she seems ok with it.

So I've been told to stop taking the day and night nurse (way ahead of her there!!) and given some anti inflammatories. And if things get worse or nothing improves over the weekend I have to go straight back.

My Uber should be here in 3 minutes and I can't wait to go to bed.

Good night, sleep well x

Sleep well @Lockheart and get better soon.

SleepWarrior · 01/02/2020 15:32

Thank goodness it's nothing horrible. Are you feeling back to normal?
