Actually garlic too. So 18.

FoamingAtTheUterus · 31/01/2020 12:47

And cucumber........more than I realise now I think about it. 🤔 Veggies have always made up the bulk of our meals. I can't imagine not having them.

Can take or leave fruit tho.

AdaKirkby · 31/01/2020 12:47

And grapes, so 19.

Think that’s it. Apart from a baked potato which I don’t think counts.

soontobeanana · 31/01/2020 12:49

Just a question - does garlic count as one of your 5 a day. I've always thought of it more as a herb type food, Good for you but not necessarily veg

FoamingAtTheUterus · 31/01/2020 12:49

Do beans count as a vegetable ??

In that case kidney beans, black beans, chickpeas and butter beans. Oh and chillis........no wonder we're always farting. Grin

AdaKirkby · 31/01/2020 12:51

@BasinHaircut

I have a vegan friend who seems to live off vegan cereal bars and soy yogurt (the one she offered me had a lot of sugar in it). She has put on a lot of weight over the last two years.

AdaKirkby · 31/01/2020 12:54

@FoamingAtTheUterus

Beans count as one of your 5 a day. So you could have beans for breakfast, chickpeas for lunch and lentils for dinner but all that would still count as 1 of your 5.

AdaKirkby · 31/01/2020 12:56

@soontobeanana

I hadn’t included garlic before but saw that others had, so I added it in. Still not sure though. I’m well over my five a day without it anyway.

BasinHaircut · 31/01/2020 12:59

Yes I believe beans count and I’ve counted them.

Not sure how much garlic you would have to eat to count as a portion Grin but for the purposes of the question I’ve asked I suppose it counts although I hadn’t counted it in mine.

redcrayons and foaming, I think you’d be surprised at the number of people who just do not buy or eat any fruit or veg.

I’d say it makes up about 60/70% of my weekly shop. Higher end of that range if we are having meat free week.

AdaKirkby · 31/01/2020 13:07

I’ve just remembered prunes too, so that makes 20 different types.

I think I just like veg, so automatically eat a lot of it. Always have a salad with lunch and a few more portions at dinner, plus my daily snacks of a banana, Apple and a satsuma.

Do nuts count? I have a handful of mixed nuts most days too.

FoamingAtTheUterus · 31/01/2020 13:10

Dowser you've just reminded me we've also had sprouts adding to the wind tunnel. 😂😂😂

Basin same here. I'd say it makes up the majority of our shop. We also try and eat veggie twice a week but usually more.

This week we've had veggie fritata with chicken sausage and salad.

Lentil moussaka and salad.

Bean chilli with brown rice / salad

Pork hotpot with veg / pickled veg

Steak with potato wedges and mushrooms / peas and salad

Spiced, veggie rice with fish and salad

Tonight we're having chorizo and prawn pasta with a.load of salad dumped on top.

I wouldn't say we were overly healthy either. And could certainly do with losing a few pounds tonne Blush
