Is a bookmark an ok christening gift?

I've seen a beautiful pewter bookmark with a soft tassel, which can be engraved. I've got it in mind for a friend's child's christening. I want to avoid the typical money box or silver item and get something which, in time, would get some use.

I'd be happy to wrap it with a classic chapter book as something the little one can enjoy when they are older.

Is this an odd gift?

I was given a bookmark as a very very young child. Nothing as special as the one one you’re describing - mine is card with a little wire and wool doll hanging from an attached ribbon. I’m 48 now and still have it. It’s in my box of ‘special things’.

I think it’s a lovely idea, and I don’t think it will get lost.

Same here, lots of my childhood favourites- have got on Amazon/eBay new and much cheaper than direct from penguin!

I would love this for me, and think it is a beautiful present, certainly with a copy of a lovely classic book.
