Is a bookmark an ok christening gift?

I've seen a beautiful pewter bookmark with a soft tassel, which can be engraved. I've got it in mind for a friend's child's christening. I want to avoid the typical money box or silver item and get something which, in time, would get some use.

I'd be happy to wrap it with a classic chapter book as something the little one can enjoy when they are older.

Is this an odd gift?

I think it sounds lovely!

I think with a book it’s a lovely gift - without it might be a little odd.

I think it will go unused.

My 8 year old would love that. A bookmark from his christening! He'd take good care of it

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 30/01/2020 20:24

Can u give it with a book?

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 30/01/2020 20:24

If I gift it I would definetly add a book with it.

Yes if it’s with a book or a Bible.

74NewStreet · 30/01/2020 20:25

Yes, it sounds lovely 🙂

It sounds a very thoughtful gift.

Honestly, by the time the baby is old enough to appreciate the bookmark, it will probably have been lost.

How about getting a folio edition of a classic children's story (The Railway Children, The Secret Garden, Ballet Shoes, etc) and putting a personal inscription inside?

DappledThings · 30/01/2020 21:05

I think it sounds lovely

SpeedofaSloth · 30/01/2020 21:10

I think it's a lovely christening gift, which has a chance of actually being used later in life.

funmummy48 · 30/01/2020 21:12

Nice if given with a book but a bit odd if given on its own, as others have said.

moobar · 30/01/2020 21:13

Perfect.

Geometricprince · 30/01/2020 21:14

I bought a beautiful pop-up book recently (among other things) as a christening gift. The child was 4yrs though, not a baby. I too would wonder if a bookmark would go missing in time, BUT, if given with a book and kept by the parents somewhere special, it might last till later on.

PatellarTendonitis · 30/01/2020 21:19

Lovely gift.

WardrobeJumper · 30/01/2020 21:23
