I’d like to know what you do with your crusts at the end of a loaf? Both me and dp don’t like them but I hate to keep throwing them away, is there anything I can make with them?

You can grate them or put in food processor to make breadcrumbs

FruityWidow · 30/01/2020 16:52

Leave them to go stale and then blitz them up into breadcrumbs. If we have loads I throw them out to the birds.

Blend them into crumbs and freeze for using in stuffings, coating fish, chicken, crunchy topping for pasta bakes

I can DM you my address and you can post them to me.

I know this is not AIBU but YABVU to not like the best bit of the loaf 😋😋😋

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 30/01/2020 17:14

Toast and eat them usually.
Sometimes turn them into breadcrumbs in the blender and keep in a bag in the freezer for topping e.g. a macaroni/cauliflower cheese combo - crumbs and cheese on top, whack under the grill, delish.

lauryloo · 30/01/2020 17:26

toast them - they are the best bit

Chewbecca · 30/01/2020 17:30

Bin Blush

iklboo · 30/01/2020 17:31

Breadcrumbs or birds.

Hoohaahoo · 30/01/2020 17:32

Dip them in oil and balsamic vinegar and pretend I’m posh.

PorpentinaScamander · 30/01/2020 17:33

Either toast or take them for the ducks and swans when I walk into town.

cornstarch · 30/01/2020 17:37

Birds get them

sniffysnifferson · 30/01/2020 17:55

We throw them on the patio for the birds.

Shadow01 · 30/01/2020 18:03

They’re the best bit toasted with lots of real butter.

AutumnCrow · 30/01/2020 18:04

I know this sounds a bit unhinged but if I have any left over bread or crusts, I make a kind of mash-up pie with other leftovers, and feed it to our local crow family in my garden. They are very intelligent and lots of fun, and very useful for clearing up food debris left in the street. I've seen one pick open a kebab box before now.

Parker231 · 30/01/2020 18:08

Toast with peanut butter on !

MoonlightMistletoe · 30/01/2020 18:14

Feed the birds

MamaFlintstone · 30/01/2020 18:15

Toast or breadcrumbs

MistyIsland · 30/01/2020 18:30

Normally the dog has them 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️

BlackBlueBell · 30/01/2020 18:54

I never even thought of breadcrumbs that’s a great idea especially seen as I’m cooking a lot more now!

@TokenGinger hahaha imagine getting a parcel of bread slices turn up 😂

Another in the 'best bit' camp.

They're particularly good for cheese on toast as they don't flop over like normal slices can when they're covered in melted cheese.

HoldMyLobster · 30/01/2020 19:35

Compost bin.

sqirrelfriends · 30/01/2020 19:36

They're called the "knobby" round here and are widely considered the best bits.

ffswhatnext · 30/01/2020 19:39

Eat them, and yes to pp about cheese on toast.
Breadcrumbs
Bread and butter pudding
French toast
Bread Sauce
Crutons

There's loads

UnitedRoad · 30/01/2020 20:06

Toast with marmite, or blackcurrant jam, or peanut butter (crunchy).

Crusts don’t hang about long here!

ffswhatnext · 30/01/2020 20:14

Or crunchy peanut butter and jam.
Have heard that adding marmite with one or both is also nice.
