How did you choose your MN name?

First of all, apologies if this is a subject that's been done to death. I haven't seen it since I've been here but I'm sure it must have been asked before.

Any road up...

I was reading "Magic Flutes" by Eva Ibbotson on the day I signed up and the opera featuring La Marschallin was mentioned in it (Der Rosenkavalier? Sorry, not sure of the spelling).

It didn't give any particular clues to my identity (apart from "La" meaning I'm probably female) and I was enjoying the book.

So, that's how I became LaMarschallin (LaMars for short).

I was reading Jenny Nimmo's 'The Snow Spider' at the time and fell in love with the phrase 'reading by spiderlight'. I pinched it directly, hence the lack of capitalisation, which I know annoys some posters!

I was trying to change my user name (about 15 years ago - I've been here nearly 19 years now & in the early days I used a name that was very similar to my RL name), I tried all sorts of witty and amusing names but they were all taken so in frustration I looked out of the window & noticed loads of weeds in my garden ... hence the name!

Princess is the meaning of my first name and my favourite flower/smell is Honeysuckle

A crappy Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz movie was on in the background while i was trying to think of a name. I was surprised it wasn't taken!

I change mine regularly to keep things fresh. I came up with this one in November and because it's Christmas related I'll probably change it again very soon. I can never think of anything inspirational though, and will probably try loads of things before I find something that's not taken.

Based on a phrase I use frequently (say the username out loud if you don't get it)

I've had a few. My last one was based on wishful thinking 😂, then I was outed. This one is because I have recently binge watched stranger things with my 11 year old ds, and I bloody loved it. I'm thinking of a change again soon though.

I used to have a much cleverer name but I was recognised so had a change. This one was from being cast as Helena in a Midsummer Nights Dream at school. ( speak, thou painted maypole). At that time I was tall and thin with rosy cheeks so I think the teacher had type cast. Now many years on I am paler and fatter.

Quite a few people chose Terry Pratchett names in tribute when he was first diagnosed with Alzheimer's. I opted for a non-discworld one because of what I was reading to DD at the time. But later I decided I'd like a Discworld one and also there seemed to be a lot of dragons appearing...

I've got various other names, some of which are for specific threads or comedic purposes.
