Apparently he's resigned because of an error of judgement in his social media use. What did he do/say?

OP posts:

He apparently called someone an absolute prick on Twitter (although I haven’t found a credible source yet so could be wrong)

Froq · 29/01/2020 17:40

Calling someone a prick happened back in May.

He quoted Measure for Measure and in his quote was the word ‘ape’. A person took offence to this and @ itv saying AS had called him an ape.

Account was swiftly deleted.

Froq · 29/01/2020 17:44

The quote:

“But man, proud man,
Dress'd in a little brief authority,
Most ignorant of what he's most assur'd—
His glassy essence—like an angry ape
Plays such fantastic tricks before high heaven
As makes the angels weep; who, with our spleens,
Would all themselves laugh mortal.”

flapjackfairy · 29/01/2020 17:46

So you have to resign for quoting Shakespeare now ? Surely there must be more to it than that ! Otherwise the world really is mad !

tessiegirl · 29/01/2020 17:49

The man he said it about has taken offense because he is black

Froq · 29/01/2020 17:50

People aren’t happy about it on twitter, plenty directing their thoughts to itv calling for him to be reinstated.

GCAcademic · 29/01/2020 17:55

Well, that quote pretty much sums up all the posturing, puffed-up moralists one sees all over Twitter.

WarmSausageTea · 29/01/2020 17:55

I’m more bothered by the fact that he’s been convicted of drink-driving twice. (Both were 10-20 years ago, but it takes a special kind of entitled arsehole to manage it twice.)

Mrsemcgregor · 29/01/2020 17:56

Yet they allow Piers fucking Morgan to spill his bile about Meghan on tv every morning. Double standards much.

iem0128 · 29/01/2020 18:13

Mrsemcgregor: I agree with you. Piers Morgan is purely vile. However, the Markle family is pure nightmare. Markle thought she could openly wear clothes and get endorsement money from all and sundries. We all know that Charles trades on the back of his name and Waitrose only store his brand of organic flour, much to my frustration as I like Bacheldre. Daddy and sister Markle are suffering from verbal diarrhoea - but they are no different from rf family hangers-on. All cashing in, QUIETLY... globally!

MitziK · 29/01/2020 18:21

Waitrose only store his brand of organic flour

Well, only Duchy, Dove's Farm, Sharpham Park and - oh - Bacheldre. Check the website.

Conspiracy proven, I guess.

iem0128 · 30/01/2020 07:02

MitziK I only want white organic and wholemeal organic. Bacheldre for my wholemeal and my little Waitrose here only does Duchy organic white - only white organic here. Same for Billericay!

iem0128 · 30/01/2020 07:03

Have to say, that quote really ruins him. It's uncalled for. I wish I could choose my skin colour ...

dayswithaY · 30/01/2020 07:21

All depends on whether he knew the race of the Twitter user before he tweeted it.

itsgettingweird · 30/01/2020 07:23

It's on GMB now. They are saying he quoted Shakespeare and are reading the whole quote.

itsgettingweird · 30/01/2020 07:26

Apparently he's used it before and it wasn't towards a black person

Ridiculous. It's not like he called him a N*

Very interesting listening to Ranvia on GMB.

itsgettingweird · 30/01/2020 07:54

Sorry Ranvir my iPad autocorrected

Findumdum1 · 30/01/2020 07:55

Coloured? really? Have you been living under a rock for the past 20 years? That is way more offensive than Shakespeare managed.

chomalungma · 30/01/2020 07:58

His response to when someone joked about someone could be offended was interesting....

At this point, he should have thought just a little bit....

What did Alastair Stewart do?
