Toddler names for things

Anyone want to share toddlers' odd names for things?

The other day DS described a miaow as a "cat woof". We also "turn the dark on" rather than "turn the light off".

Oh and how could I forget,

Mortermelon instead of watermelon

StarspaXxX · 28/01/2020 20:06

'Bumpants'! Can't believe I forgot bumpants. Dd used to get magnificent wedgies when she left nappies. She'd pick them out with gusto, maintaining eye contact with anyone nearby and solemnly stating 'bumpants'.

PaperDreamsHoney · 28/01/2020 20:08

Thought of another one - DD used to refer to a sneeze as a "blessyou".

'Bunny hop' instead of rabbit, and 'baby corn' for unicorn... 🙈

TeddyIsaHe · 28/01/2020 20:11

Dd calls mermaids mermalaides which is cute.

Cucumber was twotumber for aaaages. I was a bit sad when she could start saying t’s.

justanothergrumblebum · 28/01/2020 20:14

Oh and rainbows are now 'cloudbaby poo' (don't even ask!! and we watched Babe recently -'teeny tiny baby peppa pig with ears' (god only knows why she has to specify the ears...) and scooter is 'scoot bike me me me'... every single time...

ohmysoul · 28/01/2020 20:16

DD calls Peter rabbit "Rita pabbit"

MolyHolyGuacamole · 28/01/2020 20:24

These are so cute!

'My scary' - I'm scared
'I dead him' - I 'killed' him (role-play)
'Rugbeef'- rugby
'Municorn' - unicorn
'Unicorn' - uniform Hmm

My all time favourite:
'Grandpa's cock' - referring to 'My Grandfather's Clock'

AmazingGreats · 28/01/2020 20:25

DS farted the other day and said "I done a strawberry"
He calls blowing raspberries blowing strawberries and obviously they sound a bit like farts so it makes perfect sense.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 28/01/2020 20:29

@BikeRunSki I am DYING at 'cow sieve', that's hilarious and utterly adorable 🤣

Teddyreddy · 28/01/2020 20:31

'Nip nips' for scissors and 'snap snaps' for crocodiles were our favourites from DS.

Poetryinaction · 28/01/2020 20:31

Trousersocks - tights
Yonky - unicorn
Daddy suma - orange
Train shoes - rollerskates
Blowy stick - cigarette
We also turn the dark on

Moomin37 · 28/01/2020 20:34

My DD used to tell me she played 'bugger ug' at nursery... turns out they were playing 'bug in a rug' 😂 She also used to call crisps 'pisses' 🤣

Lolly34h · 28/01/2020 20:35

My 2 year old calls a blanket a banklet and her sister dar dar which is no where near her real name and shes the only person she has given a strange name too! My son whose almost 15 used to call spaghetti skebetti and my eldest dd called strawberries strawberberries which we still use!

mynameisigglepiggle · 28/01/2020 20:44

We've had a few from my three
Arm pips - armpits
Elborg - elbow
Juhumb - thumb with th sound as in Juan said in Spanish accent - no idea why but was so sad when she stopped!
Hoss bun - hot cross bun
Beans and saw saw - beans and sausage
My haler! - for his inhaler
Helicopcop - helicopter
It's gustin! - it's disgusting

mynameisigglepiggle · 28/01/2020 20:46

Oh and my favourite was when they used to say "last morning" meaning "yesterday"

AhhARadoxBath · 28/01/2020 20:47

Chics is tits.. Which is funny when she has some pjs with chicks on and she holds them which are in her chest saying tits tits

RedRec · 28/01/2020 20:48

My brother said ninneam instead of ice cream. For years. He is 53 now.

foobio · 28/01/2020 20:48

My 3 and a half yo has just stopped calling a cucumber a cumbumbum. I'm rather sad it's over as it's given me a lot of giggles over the last year!

InventedthePostIt · 28/01/2020 20:50

Not a name but whobodies instead of whose. Sees something she would like 'whobodies are these?' Paired with an innocent look.

RedRec · 28/01/2020 20:51

@foobio we still sometimes say coombumber, as my son used to.

SarahAndQuack · 28/01/2020 20:53

Not quite the same, but my DD has two mums and for a while she'd say 'my mummy' or 'my mama' like other toddlers. Then she started saying 'my Sarah' and 'my SarahsPartner'. And it just melts my heart. As in 'I want my Sarah!' 'My Sarah hold my hand!'

She also turned her favourite bedtime book into a verb, so 'Tiger-tea me!' means 'take me to bed and read me The Tiger Who Came To Tea'.

My DP used to say 'it's morning time!' to wake her up, so now she pats your eyes and says 'it's morning eyes!' to mean 'open your eyes'.

UnicornPug · 28/01/2020 20:53

Dd is nearly 14 now and these are the ones that have stuck.
Helidoctor (air ambulance and I think the people that named it air ambulance missed a trick)
Bouncealine (trampoline)
Hello-phone (telephone)

HighwayCat · 28/01/2020 20:53

The fridge is the ‘hungry cupboard’

Georgiemcgeorgeface · 28/01/2020 21:01

Aunty Baf (Bev)
Hise puff - hosepipe
Diviot - idiot, usually reserved for use in the car
Ripples - nipples

Loved reading the thread. I do miss the toddler years
