I'm past that stage of my life but I thought I'd post this for those who haven't.... apologies if this isn't news!

@5BlueHydrangea Modibodis do smaller ones.

FagAsh · 27/01/2020 17:29

Sounds gross.

A mooncup is surely far better?

BoxedWine · 27/01/2020 17:30

If you get on with internal, perhaps.

waterlego · 27/01/2020 17:30

Lol @ 'unsexy'. Personally, my period is not a time for sexy underwear anyway as they'd likely get ruined with stains from leakage!

I use a mooncup which I love, but I have a very heavy flow on days 1 and 2, and am also prone to night time leaks. I've been thinking about trying period pants for a while, and DD (14) would like to try them, so I'm definitely going to buy some now after seeing all the positivity here.

colouringinpro · 27/01/2020 17:32

Really interesting thread. Anyone using any reusable pads that they'd recommend? Even if I do t use them for day 1 and 2 it woukd be an improvement on now...

and what period pants best for teens?

thanks

PuppyMonkey · 27/01/2020 17:35

So where do you get your sexy periodwear from cz? Grin

daringdoris · 27/01/2020 17:39

@bellinisurge
Thank you!! Flowers

bellinisurge · 27/01/2020 17:40

@colouringinpro , Modibodis do period pants for teens. Pricey but worth it. My dd loves the boy shorts they do.
As for pads, start with the budget range at Precious Stars.
Look on Etsy or Folksy for others.
English Garden Lovelies are fab but I think she only sells via Facebook .

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 27/01/2020 17:42

How many pairs do you need would you say?

bellinisurge · 27/01/2020 17:42

You can get thong reusable liners @cz123 . Just saying'.

colderthananeskimosknob · 27/01/2020 17:43

@colouringinpro

If you want super absorbent pads then try Minivivi ones. Originally designed for incontinence but work really well as menstrual pads.

Cute cloth pads are also pretty good, and as the name suggests they come in loads of different designs. The lady that makes CC custom makes them so you can customise them to your preference.

cz123 · 27/01/2020 17:43

@PuppyMonkey...... Why Agent Provocateur of course or M&S Grin

Sorry but the only times I will wear Granny panties is post-partum. I don't want my husband to see me in horrible knickers just because it's my TOM. Also I don't want a VPL. I just choose dark colours. I like to feel good about myself.

megletthesecond · 27/01/2020 17:43

I have a pair of modibodis on standby for when DD starts. They feel dead soft and the absorbent part seems quite robust. Apparently one of her school friends wears them in the school day.
I don't have periods or I'd get a pair.

viccat · 27/01/2020 17:44

For those asking for cloth pad brands that are UK made (most of the cheap ones are mass produced in China and mostly synthetic materials), look up brands like TCS Eco, Lady Days, Fanny Paddams, Red Queen Cloth, Pretty Period. Some have Etsy shops, some have their own websites and also Facebook pages/groups where they do sales events, advice etc.

cz123 · 27/01/2020 17:46

@bellinisurge hmm interesting, but the potential for leakage is too great! My sexy white jeans would be ruined Wink

SellFridges · 27/01/2020 17:47

I have ModiBodi. I accidentally wore a light flow pair yesterday on the first day of my period and by the evening they were slightly damp to the touch. My error though as I am much heavier the first ff days.

Absolutely revolutionary for me. I have never found tampons comfortable and with disposable pads I’ve had chafing and hate the smell of most. Now, I run on my period and happily trust these all day.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 27/01/2020 17:51

I noticed that the care instrucitons on the Sainbury's one are:

Wash before wear. Cold delicate machine wash. Do not add softener. Do not soak. Do not bleach. Do not tumble dry. Do not iron. Do not dry clean. Line dry.

Sound pretty simple.

Likethebattle · 27/01/2020 17:57

I’d love these as I tend to leak at night on days 1-2. Sick of scrubbing sheets!

amaryl · 27/01/2020 18:01

I don’t understand these
I can’t imagine anything worse

ElfDragon · 27/01/2020 18:06

Re: sizing for younger children/teens, cheeky wipes start from size 4-6, which is pretty small. I have some 6-8 for my small 12 year old and they fit ok. At £10 a pair, they’re way cheaper than modibodi or thinx.

As for amount you need m, it depends on how often you’ll do a wash, and how heavy periods are etc. I have a wash on most days, and have good drying space, so have 10 pairs for dd1 (bearing in mind she has SN, and will always use 3 pairs a day - morning, afternoon and overnight - and I always pack her 2 clean spares to go into school with, even though she’ll only use one) and that is plenty. In fact, that amount is split across two households since exH moved out (he’s too cheapskate to buy some to keep at his), and I still manage fine with generally having 6/7 pairs here. Less would be doable, but more stress on getting the wash on on time, hung out, etc.

soberfabulous · 27/01/2020 18:16

I can't get my head around these.

On day one of my period my menstrual cup is full by 9 am and I might need to empty it 4 times during the working day. Maybe 5.

The thought of pouring all of that into my knickers and sitting in it all day is absolutely repulsive.

They can surely only be for overflow or very, very light periods.

cologne4711 · 27/01/2020 18:18

I leak every single month but only at night. The flow seems to defy gravity and move upwards!

Does anyone think these might work for nighttime? I am peri-menopausal but I think I am moving into the right side of it, as it is getting lighter and although I still get heavy days and clots, it's not as bad as it was. It's just nights. I always have one night where I have to get up twice in the night to change and sleep on a towel so I don't make a mess. Could these be the answer? Can you wear a pad in them for extra security (can't wear tampons at night, they itch, I only wear them to swim and have tried a mooncup before and it leaked).

waterlego · 27/01/2020 18:19

Very similar here sober. I’m looking at using them for back up for days one and two and then possibly on their own for latter days of period.

soberfabulous · 27/01/2020 18:19

Also: what about clots and fibrous matter? Are they magically absorbed?

bsc · 27/01/2020 18:24

@MyFamilyAndOtherAnimals1

AlexaAmbidextra - at least in the dark ages we weren't destroying our own habitat. I think we could learn quite a lot from that day-and-age!

Um- when do you think most of Britain's deforestation happened...?
