I'm past that stage of my life but I thought I'd post this for those who haven't.... apologies if this isn't news!

I use thinx for my pretty light periods.
Yes they’re a bit more of a faff than disposable stuff but isn’t that the point? They’re not supposed to be pure convenience, they’re supposed to be ethical!

MyFamilyAndOtherAnimals1 · 27/01/2020 15:15

@bellinisurge - thanks!

AlexaAmbidextra · 27/01/2020 15:16

I can’t help feeling that period knickers are like going back to the dark ages. We used to do everything we could to prevent menstrual flow reaching our knickers and now you just wear no pads or tampons and let your knickers catch it all. Thank God I’m post-menopause.

MyFamilyAndOtherAnimals1 · 27/01/2020 15:16

(I like my period cup (which is blooming FANtasTIC!) but it would be nice to use something like these as well)

DesLynamsMoustache · 27/01/2020 15:17

I use them alone on light flow days or with a reusable pad overnight or heavy flow days. They're brilliant! And no worries about leaks staining clothes, like I used to get with disposable pads.

MyFamilyAndOtherAnimals1 · 27/01/2020 15:18

@AlexaAmbidextra - at least in the dark ages we weren't destroying our own habitat. I think we could learn quite a lot from that day-and-age!

DesLynamsMoustache · 27/01/2020 15:19

Yes but in the dark ages they didn't have washing machines and underwear that actually absorbed period blood Confused They're not like normal pants!

bellinisurge · 27/01/2020 15:19

Take your point @AlexaAmbidextra but you could argue that disposables put you in thrall to wherever you buy them from.
The reusable pads I make for dd are customisable

1forsorrow · 27/01/2020 15:20

I had some like that about 40 years ago. I would have very heavy periods so would wear them with a tampon "just in case" I don't think I'd have wanted to wear them all day without a tampon or pad to change. A right faff to have to strip to the waist to change.

ItchySeveredFoot · 27/01/2020 15:20

Alexa luckily we're no longer in the dark ages where women were told they were somehow dirty and unclean for a basic bodily function.

TigerOnATrain · 27/01/2020 15:21

Grim. 🤢

Orangeblossom78 · 27/01/2020 15:23

Sounds horrible

Beamur · 27/01/2020 15:23

DD uses them. No faff, not sticky or messy. Lasts the day, puts clean on at night.
I just wash them in the machine. No pre wash needed.

TigerOnATrain · 27/01/2020 15:26

@Beamur I am so chuffed for your daughter, for having super light periods.

Mandarinfish · 27/01/2020 15:26

I have quite heavy periods so I use these in addition to a moon cup to prevent overflow situations. (Or you could do similar with a tampon.) That works really well for me, but personally I don't wear them without any other protection, except right at the end of my period when the flow is very light.

DesLynamsMoustache · 27/01/2020 15:27

How is it 'grim'? Confused

ItchySeveredFoot · 27/01/2020 15:27

I have pretty heavy periods and managed all day with modibodi heavy flow ones on tbf. But reusable pads are still really good and better than disposable if you're worried about having to change knickers.

karencantobe · 27/01/2020 15:28

Doesn't it smell if you are wearing them all day?

ItchySeveredFoot · 27/01/2020 15:30

It's no different from wearing a pad.

Christmaspug · 27/01/2020 15:33

I don’t think I want a knicker full of blood in the machine with the family wash ...surely you wash separately

Orangeblossom78 · 27/01/2020 15:33

What about washing them take it you don't just stick them in with rest of clothes? It does stain, how does it get properly clean?

Picklypickles · 27/01/2020 15:34

They sound like they might be quite good for me, I don't really get periods much now with Nexplanon but occasionally get some light and unpredictable spotting for a few days.

DeepfriedPizza · 27/01/2020 15:34

Which ones on Amazon @Buggedandconfused ?

I can't seem to see the reviews on the sainsburys website.

VenusClapTrap · 27/01/2020 15:35

I use modibodi and thinx pants, except on the first two days of my period when it’s at its heaviest - although they would be great as a back up on those days. I shall try out the Sainsbury’s ones.

It’s horses for courses isn’t it. I’m sure some people will hate them. But I find them much more comfortable than tampons or pads. It’s good to have different options.

karencantobe · 27/01/2020 15:35

@ItchySeveredFoot But I change my pads regularly. If you have to change your knickers regularly that is a major pain. I suspect this will only be used by those with very light periods.
