Has your Waitrose stopped selling Country Life?? Mine has since Christmas and I'm missing my weekly treat!

How you can shop in Waitrose I don’t know... the quality of their fruit and veg is absolute crap.

Sainsburys have country life discounted at the moment. Come to the dark side.

JoJoSM2 · 23/01/2020 09:27

My Waitrose has excellent fruit and veg. It also stocks Coutry Life and the Twattler.

bsc · 23/01/2020 09:28

Definitely had it around New Year, despite the fact that we are in the middle of an enormous conurbation and nowhere near any Countryside of any description! I think it's for people getting withdrawal symptoms... Grin SIL gets it without fail each month

Sparklingbrook · 23/01/2020 09:29

Have you asked a member of staff why they haven't got it? My Waitrose also has excellent fruit and veg.

bsc · 23/01/2020 09:35

Her staff don't work at Waitrose, how on earth would they know? Badoom-tish...

QuintusEstInHorto · 23/01/2020 09:40

I've asked them and they don't know why. V rural here, maybe no one needs to get their country fix in print?

I do also shop at a well known discount retailer and another major supermarket chain I should say. Although I've been put off the latter after being punched in the face over some root vegetables on Christmas Eve.... accidentally, they said....

Anyone else think ''choose another butter''??

Waterandlemonjuice · 23/01/2020 10:24

No, it was definitely in my local Waitrose this week. I didn’t buy it because the property section is thin this time of year.

Bluesheep8 · 23/01/2020 10:33

I don't see why it's a middle class question

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 23/01/2020 10:37

Butter is divided into Président spreadable, and everything else.

legoninjago1 · 23/01/2020 10:38

Country Life butter is your weekly treat?!! Steady on OP!

bsc · 23/01/2020 10:40

ha! I had forgotten Country Life is also butter Grin

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 23/01/2020 10:44

I didn't realise it was anything other than butter Blush

Juliette20 · 23/01/2020 10:50

YABU anyway. The best, and far cheaper butter is Aldi West Country salted butter.

PenelopeFlintstone · 23/01/2020 10:57

Sparklingbrook · 23/01/2020 10:59

I agree that nothing matches President when it comes to butter. Is it butter we are talking about then? Blush

gingerchaos · 23/01/2020 10:59

Waitrose don't sell Caerphilly any more Confused

IntermittentParps · 23/01/2020 11:08

I don't know, but my guilty Waitrose pleasure used to be (I don't work near one any more) a copy of The Lady Blush I'm only in my 40s. I miss it.

QuintusEstInHorto · 23/01/2020 11:11

Ha! To clarify, magazine, not butter....

OP posts:
MyFamilyAndOtherAnimals1 · 23/01/2020 11:18

never mind Country Life - Country Living is much prettier!

(...the recipes are always a laugh -eg. a little, quick 'inseason' 'light - bite' maybe something like - 'Peasant stew, with woodsmoked grouse and champagne caviar'. Step one. build your smokery )

Bluesheep8 · 23/01/2020 11:23

Just go to a newsagents

QuintusEstInHorto · 23/01/2020 11:27

I live rurally. There aren't any newsagents! I get to a supermarket once a week.

Country Living is ok, but not a spot on the property porn pages of Country Life!!

OP posts:
Bluesheep8 · 23/01/2020 11:50

Maybe call at a newsagents on your weekly trip to Waitrose?

footchewer · 23/01/2020 12:14

Doesn't your butler talk to your accountant? A word from you and they can get a subscription organised surely? It's what the dratted serfs are there for after all! Bonus: it would arrive by your bedside with your morning cup of oolong, freshly pressed and lavender-scented. Why leave the boudoir just for a poxy old magazine?
