Has your Waitrose stopped selling Country Life?? Mine has since Christmas and I'm missing my weekly treat!

I don't know where you live BlueSheep, but there aren't any newsagents near our out of town supermarkets. Lots of sheep though

footchewer in my dreams that would happen! But I've got a toddler. My weekly supermarket trip counts as a full day out for us!

Sparklingbrook · 23/01/2020 12:20

It's going to have to be the subscription by the looks of it.

alliejay81 · 23/01/2020 12:23

This thread made my add Presidente butter to my Ocado shop - I need to know what the fuss is about!

TheGreatWave · 23/01/2020 12:23

I was thinking butter too.

Anyway OP, admit defeat about the magazine and just buy Take a Break instead.

gingerchaos · 23/01/2020 12:26

Country life is rubbish butter, it has to be Breton butter with sea salt.

TheGreatWave · 23/01/2020 12:26

A magazine subscription is always a good idea. My DS has Match of the Day magazine, just turns up on the doormat every week and I am pretty certain we just pay cover price (no additional postage costs)

gingerchaos · 23/01/2020 12:27

My Waitrose also has excellent fruit and veg.

@sparklingbrook so does mine but then it's the same one as yours I believe.

CmdrCressidaDuck · 23/01/2020 12:28

Peasant stew

I KNEW THE RURAL UPPER CLASSES WERE LIKE THIS!

Aderyn19 · 23/01/2020 12:31

Get the Brittany butter with the salt crystals instead.

DrIrisFenby · 23/01/2020 12:31

Why is it only me who wants to know how you can get accidentally punched in the face over root vegetables?? ShockBlush

IntermittentParps · 23/01/2020 12:33

DrIrisFenby, no, I do too.

MCBerberLoop · 23/01/2020 12:33

@CmdrCressidaDuck THAT’S WHAT I WAS THINKING!

Poor old smoked peasants, bet they were delish for kitchen sups though Grin

DrIrisFenby · 23/01/2020 12:47

@QuintusEstInHorto please enlighten us!

QuintusEstInHorto · 23/01/2020 12:55

My godfather once sent me a recipe for peasant fricassee. It was delicious.

The was a contretemps over the last of the parsnips. I was an innocent bystander and got thwacked as someone drew their fist back for a punch.

I will have to look into subscription it seems, and also look into butter options. There's a world of buttery options I have not properly explored!!

Pipandmum · 23/01/2020 13:00

Get a subscription?

bluenoir · 23/01/2020 13:14

I prefer Country Living to Country Life, I cancelled Country Life subs.

I once met someone who didn't realise Horse and Hound was a real magazine 😂

Belindabelle · 23/01/2020 13:17

I bought Country Life in M&S yesterday.

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 23/01/2020 13:21

President Unsalted Butter is the best - not the spreadable - they add stuff to it!

bluenoir · 23/01/2020 13:25

Also Lurpak is the only acceptable but IMHO

footchewer · 23/01/2020 13:37

Sorry, you're saying there was an actual fist fight in Waitrose for the sake of a parsnip? Egads, time to upgrade to Fortnum's darling.

If you've no butler at the moment (half decent ones are impossible to find these days aren't they?) you'll have to get your gardener Quintus to step up a bit. There's nothing for him to do this time of year anyway.

QuintusEstInHorto · 23/01/2020 14:21

Oh no, not in Waitrose! That was in Tesco....

Quintus is very busy at the moment pruning something. He did tell me, but it slipped my mind. Keeping track of staff is exhausting...

followingonfromthat · 23/01/2020 14:27

We have Country Life in our Morrisons. They have Farmers Weekly, The Lady, and Horse & Hound as well.

We are slightly rural.

Somanysocks · 23/01/2020 14:35

@Jessbow I thought op was talking about butter too, shows how common I am Grin
