Dog chewed teens retainers

The dog has chewed my daughters retainers. They were free on the NHS but I know there is a cost to replace them. Chewed top and bottom set. Any idea of cost to replace?

They are the clear ones that are worn overnight.

Strugglingmum73 · 17/01/2020 21:19

Oh god. Is that NHS or private?

£90 the one time we had to replace a set (from private orthodontist). Has teen had wires put inside their mouth to stop the teeth from moving? Dds both did and their teeth haven’t moved.

LizziesTwin · 17/01/2020 21:20

Dd1 still wears hers and she’s in her 20s.

Ffs. Bloody dog

£90 for the set?

I got new ones 14 months ago - £75 each. I went to my NHS orthodontist's private practice as the NHS wouldn't do them as I have been discharged.

Strugglingmum73 · 17/01/2020 21:34

Thanks. She’s not discharged so hopefully will get them at NHS cost

Can’t help with idea of cost but I had to reply to say when I was a teenager my dog was OBSESSED with my retainers. If I didn’t put them away immediately I woke him she would have them away. She eventually got them and chewed them to bits. My orthodontist was furious.

That’s why my teeth aren’t straight!
Hope it’s not too costly for you.

richele4 · 17/01/2020 21:35

DD was told she needs to wear hers for as long as she wants to have straight teeth. Hers are £80 each (so £160 for both).

Wasnt she given a protective case to put them in?

BabbleBee · 17/01/2020 21:35

I read that as trainers and then wondered where the hell you get them free on the NHS from!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/01/2020 21:36

dd was on the nhs but now she's a young adult they aren't :(

Strugglingmum73 · 17/01/2020 21:52

Yes she had a case. No she didn’t put them in the case Angry

One of DD1's retainers got chewed by the dog and it was around £80 to replace. They tried to repaire it (would have been £40) but couldn't.

TitianaTitsling · 17/01/2020 21:57

How's it the bloody dogs fault?! Where were they left, not in the protective case?

Strugglingmum73 · 17/01/2020 22:01

Definitely not repairable

Amyspickledlime · 17/01/2020 22:02

I've just got retainers (private dentist) and was told they were £65 to replace. I assumed that was for both. Could it be £65 for each? 🤯

Strugglingmum73 · 17/01/2020 22:02

It’s not the dogs fault. Bloody frustrating though as she’s normally not a chewer

OP posts:
lollybee1 · 17/01/2020 22:03

Mine was about £220.

Twinkle19 · 17/01/2020 22:05

We’re I work it’s £65 per retainer so yeh £130 for both.

Grandmi · 17/01/2020 22:06

This happened at least three times with my daughters retainers ..think our terrier is very attracted to the saliva scent!! She actually got them replaced for free but I had paid for the treatment. If the dentist is a dog fan ,you may be lucky!!

katielilly · 17/01/2020 22:11

£80.70 per retainer NHS fee
