What's it for? We went to look a new kitchens and this hip smasher odd sticky-outy thing was built into one of the hardwood worktops and I can't work out what it's for Confused

I work in different kitchens every day as a freelancer and I've never seen one of those yet. No idea other than I would definitely be getting bruised from it 😂

Soontobe60 · 17/01/2020 17:43

God knows!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 17/01/2020 17:43

Is it so you can put a bowl/pan underneath and swoosh things into it without spilling!?

FlaviaAlbia · 17/01/2020 17:45

I think you hold a bin under it and slide food waste directly into the bin.

Either that or its for impaling people who criticise your cooking.

SexlessBoulderBelly · 17/01/2020 17:45

Is it for putting a bowl on or under to scrape things into it without it falling down the edge of the worktop onto the floor? Or rest the chopping board on it for the same reason as above, then when you scrape whatever it is off the chopping bores it goes straight into the bowl and nowhere else

Fluffycloudland77 · 17/01/2020 17:46

🙋🏻‍♀️

Do you rest the mason cash bowl against it to mix cake batter?.

BornInAThunderstorm · 17/01/2020 17:46

If I bought a house with that in the kitchen I’d probably saw it off to protect myself Confused

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 17/01/2020 17:46

You can hold a bowl underneath the worktop anyway, I do it every dayConfused

I'd bash myself on that thing all day long!

Zaphodsotherhead · 17/01/2020 18:16

If I've got lots of bits to sweep off into the bin I just hold a dustpan level with the worksurface and swoosh into that.

It looks horrible.

APatchyTomCat · 17/01/2020 18:18

It's an artisan ovary piercer. Lakeland sell them.

hambledon · 17/01/2020 18:20

An avocado display stand.

randominternetperson · 17/01/2020 18:23

@APatchyTomCat GrinGrinGrin

Nonstopbuttmachine · 17/01/2020 18:26

Uncomfortable, dangerous and awkward? Could it be a cat shelf? 🤔

AnotherEmma · 17/01/2020 18:29

This was in a kitchen shop, right?
So why didn't you just ask a shop assistant?

iklboo · 17/01/2020 18:29

An avocado display stand.

Along with the stunt pineapple.

It looks like an accident waiting to happen.

Lipz · 17/01/2020 18:30

It's for a high chair. One that does not have a table attached. You push the high chair into the groove on the table and there is now a table for child and space under neath for child's legs. Otherwise child's legs would be bashed against side of table.

Zaphodsotherhead · 17/01/2020 18:31

Is it something you can 'hitch your hip' onto? People in books are always 'hitching their hip's onto things, and I cannot imagine what this looks like in real life, and can only assume that you need a special attachment like this.

Apileofballyhoo · 17/01/2020 18:37

No idea so place marking for the amusing comments and hopefully to find out.

OldEvilOwl · 17/01/2020 19:09

No idea but I need to know

CormoranStrike · 17/01/2020 19:11

Oh, that’s a ...

a

Nope, I’ve got nothing.

Itsashame · 17/01/2020 19:20

Oh my god I’ve googled this until I can no more, and nothing. It’s driving me crazy!!

GoldfishRampage · 17/01/2020 19:27

I’m baffled

Itsashame · 17/01/2020 19:29

Op why oh why didn’t you ask when you were in the shop??

willothewispa · 17/01/2020 19:30

It's for diy executions when people criticise your meal, it allows the blood to collect in a bucket underneath

ChateauMyself · 17/01/2020 19:30

Resting head on, whilst the mobile Madame Guillotine does her thing.
