Who else would really appreciate a polite discussion of gender issues and the concerns of women at the jess Philips webchat on Monday?

I posted on the webchat thread:
Since the questions have already been asked I am not allowed to repeat similar but I want on record that self ID, its potential abuse, protection of vulnerable young people from those who promote transition which can sometimes include puberty blockers, the protection of natal women's rights and the importance of teaching biological facts in schools are big concerns to me.

MNHQ have said they don't want any more comments or questions about gender issues on the Web chat thread which I can understand. However what I do want to make clear is the number of people who may share some or all of my concerns. Otherwise any questions about gender issues are of an equal weight to all others and in fact others, which can be repeated in a different form, may seem to gain more weight.

Yup, count me in! 🙋

StealthPolarBear · 18/01/2020 09:29

Actually I'd add the influence on policy and on institutions by mermaids and stonewall when (correct me if I'm wrong) the content is not evidence based

  • the protection of natal women's rights
  • the importance of teaching biological facts in schools

Pls add to and refine. Try to keep language neutral

I saw that on the thread. It was a bit rubbish. I hope Jess answers at least some of the questions.

Am I allowed to talk about lesbians any more or are they just trans men who don't know it yet

Adding my support.

I would like to know what they are doing about the social contagion aspect of this amongst children/teenagers, girls especially?

My daughter started secondary in September. Since then 3 of her year have declared themselves boys. What are the odds?

LangCleg · 18/01/2020 09:37

they'll simply be harangued about this single issue

It's not a single issue.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 18/01/2020 09:42

What a revealing answer that is.

We are going to stop you asking a politician about your concerns over women's (and childrens) rights as you are "haranguing and shouting".

AKA shut up and stop all that, also you are nagging and hysterical. Dare I say bossy as well? What a shame we aren't men then we would be being persistent, assertive and focused.

What does Jess Phillips DO?

Her chosen specialist area in parliament is to talk about issues relating to women and in particular domestic violence and to represent the interests and views of women.

So what is the actual point of the we chat, if we can't ask questions related to her experience, her chosen specialist area and how we feel we are being failed by people who say they are representing us?

Just curious MNHQ.

It's one thing to make this stance our politicians, but seriously this is Jess Phillips. You do understand why this is problematic to make your stand with this particular politician perhaps more than any other?

It's absurb to the point of destroying any sense of journalistic ethical understanding and liberalist stance by the site.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 18/01/2020 09:44

Can we add fucking censorship and silencing to that list?

I've actually been TeamMN so far for allowing some free speech (not perfect but better than most sites) which is what makes this particularly disappointing. I'd really like to hear from Justine and see what she thinks (although assuming this is coming from her. I just find it a little surprising as well as disappointing).

Gertygypsey · 18/01/2020 09:46

Just adding another voice in support of this. Also very disappointed with the stance of MNHQ.

I’ve met Jess Phillips.

After her last MN webchat, which was a bit of a car crash, I went with a couple of other MNers to a talk & book signing and told her about our concerns face to face. She seemed sympathetic and signed my copy of her book ‘Keep fighting.’

Oh well.

StealthPolarBear · 18/01/2020 09:47

I chose to leave out the 'fucking' :o

By representing the concerns of trans widows I am "haranguing and shouting"

14 th rule of misogyny: Women have all the rights they need: The right to remain silent.

StealthPolarBear · 18/01/2020 09:48

I'm not giving up on her yet. I've not always agreed with her but I've felt strongly she's what's needed in politics.

StealthPolarBear · 18/01/2020 09:49

Tinsel please can you spell the issue put so I can add it to the list? Better written by you than me

Stealth - add in:

Mixed sex hospital wards generally (there have already been sex assaults).

Mixed sex locked psych wards (there have already been sex assaults).

Police recording non crimes in databases that may be reported on a DBS check as a crime.

Free speech generally and on university campuses.

StealthPolarBear · 18/01/2020 09:50

Ah and recording sex crimes by 'women'

Not only this but one of the Labour Party's major issues is how and why many people turned away from them.

There is a feeling out there that the Labour Party has a problem with listening to the wider party and being unwilling to tackle and engage with difficult issue because its inconvenient to some of the ideology they are trying to promote. There is this sense that there is a gap between lived experience of ordinary people and the high handed moralising of the left at the moment.

Enabling this to continue by avoiding the difficult questions isnt the solution to a lack problems of people feeling they are not being listened to.

The Labour Party are partly in this mess precisely because they have buried their heads in the sand and made excuses for not addressing difficult matter they don't want to talk about.

The problem doesn't go away because people don't talk. They fester and get worse.

And order them, though that might be difficult to reach a consensus
