Who else would really appreciate a polite discussion of gender issues and the concerns of women at the jess Philips webchat on Monday?

I posted on the webchat thread:
Since the questions have already been asked I am not allowed to repeat similar but I want on record that self ID, its potential abuse, protection of vulnerable young people from those who promote transition which can sometimes include puberty blockers, the protection of natal women's rights and the importance of teaching biological facts in schools are big concerns to me.

MNHQ have said they don't want any more comments or questions about gender issues on the Web chat thread which I can understand. However what I do want to make clear is the number of people who may share some or all of my concerns. Otherwise any questions about gender issues are of an equal weight to all others and in fact others, which can be repeated in a different form, may seem to gain more weight.

Add me to the list!

SugarPlumFairyCakes · 19/01/2020 06:10

Please add me to the list.
Late to this thread, but agree totally with all the thoughts expressed, especially with regards to spousal rights and safe-guarding of children.

FloraGreysteel · 19/01/2020 07:06

Please add me.

BadgertheBodger · 19/01/2020 07:08

Me as well

TorchesTorches · 19/01/2020 07:29

Me too! (Hmm, that phrase resonates, like a wholesale silence on something for fear of upsetting / stirring the wrath of the men...)

Swirls1111 · 19/01/2020 07:31

Please add me too.

boldlygoingsomewhere · 19/01/2020 07:38

Add me to the list too. On paper, Labour is a good fit for me politically in many ways. However, I can’t vote for a party which is willing to ignore concerns around safeguarding. Some clarity from Jess on what she thinks about these issues would be very welcome.

YourOpinionIsNoted · 19/01/2020 07:57

I posted earlier but just making sure that my name is on the list.

Doesn't it just!

TheWildPlaces · 19/01/2020 08:06

Please add me to the list too - I definitely want to see it discussed.

flowery · 19/01/2020 08:08

Yes please I want it discussed. I thought Jess Phillips was reliable on women’s rights, seems I was wrong.

RoxytheRexy · 19/01/2020 08:10

Me too please

hoorayforharoldlloyd · 19/01/2020 08:27

Please add me - thanks.

jimmychooing · 19/01/2020 08:35

I'd be interested in Jess's views on this

WhereAreWeNow · 19/01/2020 08:41

Me too. I was shocked by JP's interview for Pink News. Really felt like she was throwing women under the bus. I'd like to be able to ask her questions about her position in the web chat.

Ceramique · 19/01/2020 08:43

Add me too please.

Cuntysnark · 19/01/2020 09:03

I’m just watching Jess on sky. She said one of the issues people had with Corbyn was that he didn’t listen. I know Jess has been asked gender critical questions (I was at an event and heard one) so the hypocrisy is strong with this one. If she’s not got someone to read these threads prior to the web chat tomorrow she’s a fool. She MUST know the depth and breadth of the feelings & opinions on this single issue.
Still watching and she’s said ‘honest’ multiple times. I used to really like her and I could weep.

ginghamstarfish · 19/01/2020 09:09

Yes, I won't be taking any further interest in the 'webchat', that is the pre-approved, well prepared and researched nonsense that will no doubt be forthcoming, without any of the REAL questions we want to ask.

MsMoppet · 19/01/2020 09:12

Please add me to the list of people who want questions regarding natal women's rights to be put to Jess Phillips in the webcast.

Did anyone Tweet this thread to JP? I'm not on Twitter.

AccioWine · 19/01/2020 09:15

Yes please. I do understand not wanting to flood the webchat, but I want politicians to see the depth of feeling there is about this topic. A polite debate about the myriad issues doesn't feel like too much to ask....

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 19/01/2020 09:19

I never expect much of webchats, so I wasn't going to bother with this one anyway. I'm sorry but not surprised to hear that it's going to be even more of a stage-managed self-promotion/PR exercise than normal. Add my voice to those who would have liked MN to let all questions stand and group them together if necessary.

However, as a result of this thread, I've now also read this: www.pinknews.co.uk/2020/01/17/jess-phillips-labour-leadership-transgender-rights-juno-dawson-pinknews-interview/ Pink News interview with Jess Phillips. The interviewer is Juno Dawson. I'm very, very disappointed.

Jess Phillips has pretty clearly nailed her colours to the mast here. She actively wants reform of the GRA to make it easier to get a GRC. She thinks the introduction of the GRA was great in principle but she doesn't understand the GRA requirements to live as the opposite sex:

I found that it was not fit for purpose in modern Britain at the time, because I don’t know how anyone could ever meet those tests or who, more importantly, gets to set the test. As somebody who has spent her life arguing against the idea of like, boys jobs and girls jobs, I just couldn’t understand the parameters. So, the recommendations to change how that process happened seemed deeply obvious.

I don't think it's fit for purpose either, I don't agree with gender stereotypes either, but I draw the opposite conclusion from all of this. My view is that it's impossible to change sex so what's the point of a GRC? Why aren't we trying to make it OK to dress, behave etc how you like, regardless of which sex you are?

But Jess seems to have thrown her lot in with those who would say gender identity is innate, brains come in at least three varieties (male, female, non-binary) and if you have the misfortune to have a brain/body mismatch Hmm this is something that warrants medical treatment, just like any other medical condition. (Or not, in the case of the 80%+ of transwomen who don't seek surgery and who are also quite unlikely to take hormones.)

She appears to be an intelligent woman. She speaks cogently and convincingly about sex work and the Nordic model. How can she not see that believing in gendered souls is a deeply unscientific position which throws up all sorts of problems right across society?

if anyone is going to tweet give me an hour's notice and I will get the up to date stats for you to include in the tweet

Adding my voice to those who would love to be able to talk about these issues to Jess Phillips.

As Stealth's list shows this isn't one issue. Which makes mnhq's censorship all the more more galling.

And if politicians don't want to come to mn because they think they will be inundated with questions about these issues they need to ask themselves why women here are so desperate to talk about them. Maybe because there are virtually no other spaces where these things can be discussed.

ginghamstarfish · 19/01/2020 09:25

While I'm neither a Labour party member, nor a Labour voter, I think (or thought) that it was about time the party had a female leader, and was looking forward to the webchat. Now I won't be bothering. I do think though that all those here who are members/supporters should be emailing JP with this, and in fact the other contenders too.

BabyItsAWildWorld · 19/01/2020 09:35

Please add me.

I asked question about safeguarding children as a result of recent local authority policies on mixed sex changing and sleeping arrangements.

It was deleted and erased from the thread.
