Who else would really appreciate a polite discussion of gender issues and the concerns of women at the jess Philips webchat on Monday?

StealthPolarBear · 17/01/2020 13:23

I posted on the webchat thread:
Since the questions have already been asked I am not allowed to repeat similar but I want on record that self ID, its potential abuse, protection of vulnerable young people from those who promote transition which can sometimes include puberty blockers, the protection of natal women's rights and the importance of teaching biological facts in schools are big concerns to me.

MNHQ have said they don't want any more comments or questions about gender issues on the Web chat thread which I can understand. However what I do want to make clear is the number of people who may share some or all of my concerns. Otherwise any questions about gender issues are of an equal weight to all others and in fact others, which can be repeated in a different form, may seem to gain more weight.

Only coming back to this now. Can it believe my question regarding the GRA consultation had vanished - not even a deletion notice.

This is blatant censorship.

Off to see if I've been emailed.

StealthPolarBear · 18/01/2020 18:46

There are multiple questions about brexit though. And politics. And the north. So presumably these are being deleted.

I might have missed a page (since I renewed my account, I can’t see everything on one page). It’s a nightmare.

I asked how she would bring the country together post Brexit. Shoot me.

EmpressLesbianInChair · 18/01/2020 18:48

My question was about Brexit. (Although I did bristle about being told! 'that's enough' and I did agree with another poster who was later deleted.

Hang on - are HQ really telling people who ask Brexit questions that we're finding it increasingly hard to tempt politicians onto Mumsnet because of fears they'll simply be harangued about this single issue and shouted at for not providing the desired response as well as people who ask about women’s rights?

LemonGingerCakes · 18/01/2020 18:50

AND IF THEY'RE BEING DELETED THERE ARE NOT MULTIPLE QUESTIONS ABOUT BREXIT BECAUSE THEY'VE ALL BEEN DELETED.

ARGH.

Caps lock fail, but the shouting works (not to you, Stealth)

WelshMoth · 18/01/2020 18:50

I've had the email about not haranguing potential politicians with repeated questions.

I scanned the thread before asking about the GRA - I didn't see the question asked before 9am this morning or am I mistaken?

Feminazgul · 18/01/2020 18:53

MN censoring women.

Shame on you @mnhq

LemonGingerCakes · 18/01/2020 18:54

You won’t see the messages because they’ve been deleted. So you mustn’t post multiple messages about the same topic that you can’t see multiple messages of because they’ve been deleted, therefore you can’t see multiple messages.......

🤦🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️

WelshMoth · 18/01/2020 18:55

Has MNHQ forgotten that these politicians are public servants and are we are more than entitled to ask questions that concern us.

"We don't want to have to suspend your account but we will do so if you can't stick to them (we chat rules).

Thanks a lot MN.

StealthPolarBear · 18/01/2020 18:56

As far as I can see there are now no questions a boy the GRA reform consultation. Bit crap

OP posts:
GirlsInGreen · 18/01/2020 18:57

Elected politicians not wanting to answer questions on one particular subject - so they can shape the legislation but we cannot question them about it?

Well just fuck that shit @MNHQ

Bimbleberries · 18/01/2020 19:02

I also think this should be discussed, properly, with no deletions and allowing politicians to weasel out of answering question (and with users having the right of reply when they attempt to!).

pejorativelyspeaking · 18/01/2020 19:05

Ffs
Count me-this needs talking about

BinkySodPlop · 18/01/2020 19:18

Please add my name. And 👍 to the questions on zoflora and favourite biscuit! What's the betting they're the ones which get answered.....

TheBullshitGoesOn · 18/01/2020 19:26

I've just discovered I have a vote in the Labour leadership election (I thought I had opted out of the Union political fund but turns out I hadn't).

So which leadership candidate is going to earn my vote? This webchat would have been a good chance for JP to woo me but not if there aren't questions on the things I care about.

Jux · 18/01/2020 19:29

Stealth, I hope you don't mind but I reported your post which says Yep. Some summary of content and numbers would have been perfect suggessting that this would be a sensible way of dealing with this issue.

StealthPolarBear · 18/01/2020 19:33

Thanks! If they want it I will provide it :

Michelleoftheresistance · 18/01/2020 19:47

Too depressing to really go into, having seen that shared email, but if politicians have to be 'tempted' onto MN then yes, obviously, it's only going to be zoflora, biscuit questions and a little bit about nursery fees.

God forbid women should actually expect someone to be prepared to defend the legislation they're busy inflicting on women. God forbid politicians should have to actually listen to or face up to the consequences of their actions in the role they're paid for. And 'harangued'? From what I've seen, what they mean is people point out that they're wrong in their facts, avoiding the question, or missing the point being asked. Haranguing does not mean 'failing to unconditionally accept a very poor answer', and I'm fairly sure that word wouldn't be used for men being persistent in expecting a quality debate.

As I said in another post: to MN and politicians, this is a bit of light PR. The fly in the ointment is females who talk about more than zoflora.

GirlsInGreen · 18/01/2020 20:11

Indeed -@Michelleoftheresistance 'Harangued' now there's a word never used when men are talking.

JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 18/01/2020 20:11

Secondly we're finding it increasingly hard to tempt politicians onto Mumsnet because of fears they'll simply be harangued about this single issue and shouted at for not providing the desired response - which ultimately means no one will get to ask any of these important questions to our policy makers.

Sorry MNHQ but this is awful. If there are so many women making that much noise about a particular issue that politicians are avoiding it, then not only is it essential that politicians discuss it, but it's also very clear that it is one of those important questions.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 18/01/2020 20:24

Me, please.

puckingfixies · 18/01/2020 20:33

Count me in please, would like to see answers to the questions/concerns expressed on this thread.

StealthPolarBear · 18/01/2020 20:46

Right, some initial results are in. As of scrimshaw at 20.24 today there were almost 300 posts on the thread from 136 posters (nothing I can do about any name changers). Of those 136, 134 support the op and 2 do not. Unsurprising since the question asked was asking for support.

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 18/01/2020 20:49

However 134 individual posters are concerned about gender issues and womens rights, which compares to 96 posts in total on the Web chat thread about all issues. Also note that thread is stickied.
I'll repeat this on Monday lunchtime.

OP posts:
Michelleoftheresistance · 18/01/2020 20:50

Also if politicians are frightened of being shouted at for not producing the right response...….

considering the 'right response' is merely to show some kind of care for the rights of female people and children, I don't really have much sympathy.
