Well ... I'm not a mum, but I bloody love MN for all the funky things I've learnt over the last few years!

And my latest product (discovered on MN) the lovely Netti Pot!

Dubiously ordered one online and it arrived last Friday... TBH despite my snot filled head, the box remained on the side unopened...

I'd even considered returning it and it didn't look a very pleasant contraption! (It's bigger than I'd expected 🙈)

Until today... The cold meds are not working, am sick of not being able to breathe and hoiking up snot from my throat Sorry TMI but we've all experienced it 🙈🙈

So, boiled the kettle, emptied the salt packet into the bucket little pot and took aim... At first nothing happened... stupid machine stupid operator more like

Then, euch NOT pleasant sensation... but the snot.. literally.. poured.. out!! Sporner delight!! Did the second nostril... same thing!

Oh the relief! I can now breathe!! My nose feels clean! (Wierd I know!) So I might actually get some sleep tonight hallelujah!

Thank You MN! Sorry had to share!

Works so well and it's just so satisfying. Only problem I have is when its over and I put my head down afterwards warm saline pours down my nose.

eenymeenyminyme · 16/01/2020 12:23

Tried it once, I swear I nearly drowned! Shock

Glad it worked for you though, ExH used to swear by his.

Babymamaroon · 16/01/2020 21:10

This sounds fantastic! I had a similar type contraption and it was so satisfying if disconcerting.

Hovverry · 16/01/2020 21:22

I used to get terrible colds, up to a month long, non stop all of every winter. I acquired a Netti Pot and it may be because I retired from working with children or coincidence, but my colds stopped. I now only get normal colds.

PontiacBandit · 16/01/2020 21:23

Ooh you've convinced me, order placed for delivery tomorrow. I'm on my second sinus infection in 2 weeks and have suffered from rebound congestion for years so I'm hoping for miracles.

TheClitterati · 16/01/2020 21:29

I had dreadful sinusitis to the point where I even stopped flying as I had such a dreadful problems. The netti pot sorted it out and I'm one of the people rave about them on loads of MN threads.

So I'm really really glad you're experiencing this and you'll enjoy it for years to come.

My sinus condition has now up and left the building. I credit that to using a netti pot. Imagine how many courses of antibiotics and how much pain I could've been spared if I'd started using one years earlier

TheClitterati · 16/01/2020 21:32

Be sure to do it again before bedtime OP

fascinated · 16/01/2020 21:36

It also comes in a squeezy bottle type thing which I have used - Neti pot looks less easier to use....? I need to buy a new one so happy to hear Opinions - what should I buy?

Also find that drinking the juice of a lemon every day helps with colds etc

anascrecca · 16/01/2020 21:38

Right I'm off to order one. Smile

AfterSchoolWorry · 16/01/2020 21:40

I use the Neilmed squeezy bottle morning and evening.

Used to often gave up to 6 antibiotics a season, but side I started using this I've not needed them 🤞🏻

LillyBugg · 16/01/2020 21:43

I really struggle with sinus pain and blocked nose when I get a cold so I got something like this and it really didn't help. One time my nose was so blocked that the water literally wouldn't run through. And then others when I have got it to go through hardly any gunk came out. Am I doing it totally wrong?! Head tilt to the side, water runs in one nostril and out the other...you can sort of feel it at the top of your throat as it goes through. What am I doing wrong??

BrotherMouzone · 16/01/2020 21:45

@AfterSchoolWorry

The Neilmed bottles are great aren’t they? Feel so clean and clear afterwards.

Startedoutasfriends · 16/01/2020 21:46

Oh my goodness, my Neto pot changed my life. I’m going to do one now Grin

BrotherMouzone · 16/01/2020 21:47

Always ensure you use dedicated ‘neti salt’ rather than standard table salt which I understand can sting and also contains irritants. Loose bag of neti salt available online really cheap and lasts ages

Echobelly · 16/01/2020 21:48

I tried to netti pot the other day for the first time in ages without quite the right container after a week and a half of congestion, I seemed to have messed up and I felt even more congestion that before in my sinuses afterwards.... but then by bedtime I was actually able to sleep without decogestants. I only resort to it if serious blockage has been going on for more than a week, but sometimes (not every time) it can be the only thing to shift it.

Must buy myself a proper pot one of these days - guessing health food shop round the corner will have one.

Usernamealreadyexists · 16/01/2020 21:50

Bloody great thread! So do you squeeze water up your nose or just let the salty steam do it’s thing?

AfterSchoolWorry · 16/01/2020 21:51

BrotherMouzone they are!

BrotherMouzone · 16/01/2020 22:43

@AfterSchoolWorry

I’m really sorry if this sounds too gross but I remember my desperation after a month of sinus infection....it was so painful, the headaches were horrible, so I bought the neilmed bottle after doing some research and thin like uncooked spaghetti strings of lime green mucous expelling in my basin I couldn’t believe it ....they just got ‘forced’ out and I felt healed afterwards, it was almost miraculous 🤢

lilyboleyn · 16/01/2020 22:44

@LillyBugg you’re not doing anything wrong. Blocked nose is caused by inflamed nostrils, not snot. Eventually nostrils will become less inflamed and you can netti pot your heart out (or your snot out, I suppose) Grin

lilyboleyn · 16/01/2020 22:45

I tend to put too much salt in and it buuuuuurns Confused

confusednorthner · 16/01/2020 22:49

Strangely enough I've just watched the most gruesome video of one of these online!! I've had sinusitis since end of November, two lots of antibiotics and steroids and my head just feels bunged up. Even my ears and teeth ache but very little actual snot. Wondering if the Neilmed would do anything....

BrotherMouzone · 16/01/2020 22:51

@Usernamealreadyexists

The neilmed bottle is like a soft plastic bottle with a spout inside it and you get a starter set of salts in sachets, use fairly hot comfortable temperature water...dissolve the salt sachet in the bottle lean over the basin and ‘basically just ‘squirt’ the bottle up your nose.....then do the other nostril. Plenty of tutorials online. The only weird thing is the water residue pours from your nose if say, you Lean forward but not really a problem. Initially I thought it would be uncomfortable but it really isn’t, it’s actually very uplifting and feels cleansing

fascinated · 16/01/2020 22:56

Warning though, everyone, DIY could damage sensitive tissues etc... only use proper equipment and salts!

Whatsetshortfor · 16/01/2020 23:09

I had sinusitis in November. After suffering two weeks of pain and pressure, in desperation, I used one of the syringes that come with Calpol and warm salty water.

It did sting a bit but it worked!

BrendasUmbrella · 16/01/2020 23:17

Do you all sterilize the bottle each time you use it?
