Well ... I'm not a mum, but I bloody love MN for all the funky things I've learnt over the last few years!

And my latest product (discovered on MN) the lovely Netti Pot!

Dubiously ordered one online and it arrived last Friday... TBH despite my snot filled head, the box remained on the side unopened...

I'd even considered returning it and it didn't look a very pleasant contraption! (It's bigger than I'd expected 🙈)

Until today... The cold meds are not working, am sick of not being able to breathe and hoiking up snot from my throat Sorry TMI but we've all experienced it 🙈🙈

So, boiled the kettle, emptied the salt packet into the bucket little pot and took aim... At first nothing happened... stupid machine stupid operator more like

Then, euch NOT pleasant sensation... but the snot.. literally.. poured.. out!! Sporner delight!! Did the second nostril... same thing!

Oh the relief! I can now breathe!! My nose feels clean! (Wierd I know!) So I might actually get some sleep tonight hallelujah!

Thank You MN! Sorry had to share!

@LillyBugg you need to be really patient. I've used the netti pot many times when I've been completely blocked. If you hang out with it patiently for a while gravity will eventually allow the warm salted water to break through the blockage. Starts with a drip and by the end you'll have the water flowing. No need to force anything.

They recommend using a mix of salt & bicarbonate. I use the premixed sachets. But you can find the blend online if you want to make your own.

My own trick when I'm in sever sinusitis & pain is to empty a pro biotic capsule into the netti water. Very effective alternative to anti biotics.

I don't know how much of a factor this played in eliminating my 30 year sinusitis issues almost immediately. Now I only start to have problems at the back end of a (now very rare) cold. Using netti pot for a couple of days solves the problem quickly before any pain sets in.

I did my first rinse a couple of nights ago while on a night shift. OMG the relief and I have been great ever since.
I did a DIY job with table salt and a syringe (I was desperate) and have not ordered a proper pot with the salts

Sorry meant to say I have now ordered a proper pot with the salts

Had anyone seen the video with the little girl Using a pot over the bath- OMG poor little thing.

Since my dh went gf and df he’s just announced his sinuses are clearer than they’ve ever been.
Yes he also has a netti pot but I can’t remember the last time he used it.

Dowser · 17/01/2020 10:50

Funnily enough I’ve just restarted drinking the juice of a lemon every morning..I haven’t had a cold. Lemon juice is supposed tobe good for gall bladders.
I’m also gf and df

Bought the neilmed squeezy bootleg kit today as that's all I could get in small town chemist. First rinse tonight and it may be psychological but feel slightly less stuffy...

confusednorthner · 17/01/2020 23:57

Bootleg is bottle obviously 🙄

LillyBugg

It may be worth trying a steroid nasal spray to get the swelling down in your nostrils and sinuses a bit which is what I needed to do when I started using the sinus rinse.

I'm another who has used the Neilmed bottle and found it worked wonders on my permanently inflamed sinuses.

I’m disappointed, I never get snot flowing out with mine, just water- it all comes out when I blow my nose after!
