Sorry to hear you've had a hard time segregate et al.
Well done those that sailed through the weekend to Sunday.

I held on by the skin of my teeth last night. I was trying to think of a word to describe how I felt last night and petulant sums it up. And weepy, I've had a difficult week, problems with my business, overloaded with work and an ill mum. A bottle glass or two of wine would have been my usual go to.

Anyway, still here, and glad to have everyone's support.

IWillWearTheGreenWillow that's all so true. We have been fed this narrative about who we can be with a glass of wine in hand. I quite like the idea of looking for another picture of what a successful, happy woman looks like.

I've been so busy this past 7 days but have a well deserved day off today, so going to enjoy a coffee in bed. So thanks for the advent photo.

Is anyone else madly thirsty all the time? I can't seem to quench my thirst. Maybe I've not been drinking enough water.

ParanoidGynodroid · 19/01/2020 09:43

Morning all. Hope you’re all feeling well. I’m sorry that some of you have been having a difficult time and hope you can rejoin us if you’ve faltered.

If you’ve got this far and completed 18 full days, then that (not counting today) is 58% ! Yay!

I’m sleeping very well now, which in turn is making me feel better during the day; not lost any weight, though!

Yay for 58%. That's great.
Funnily enough I had forgotten to clock how many days I'd done so knowing I'm on day 22 at the end of today has cheered me up. Thanks Paranoid

SunshineAvenue · 19/01/2020 10:02

If you had a drink last night just chalk it up to experience and get back on it.

Another alcohol dream last night. I won't bore you with details but the overall feeling I got was that I felt socially awkward on arrival to a night out with a (mostly) unknown bunch and that taking a few of sips of a GnT did nothing to abait that feeling because I suppose it wasn't 'enough' alcohol for me to not become me iyswim.

I actually feel like I have the fear this morning! I have had a few worries over the weekend so I suppose that's a contributor.

Hope everyone has a chill Sunday.

nibdedibble · 19/01/2020 10:07

Breathmiller, yes me, cannot physically drink enough water! I don’t understand. I was not replacing water with whisky before...what gives??!

I’ve also felt far woozier on standing than I used to. A couple of people have mentioned it on this thread. I wonder if all these differences are our livers resetting themselves.

ColouringPencils · 19/01/2020 10:40

Hi everyone, I haven't posted for a while but have been keeping at it. Like others, I have found this weekend the hardest. Maybe because it seems so long since we drank we have forgotten all the reasons not to?
Anyway, got through and have been quite enjoying the AF beer. I agree with the poster who said it's crazy that some supermarkets stick it in he middle of the booze aisle.

Have also been having dreams that I am secretly drinking and feeling really guilty about it.

Also wondering if I might continue beyond 1 Feb, but can't decide. I usually do lent, which this year runs 26 Feb- 9 April. I started thinking maybe I would give up drinking again for lent, and then that maybe there is no point going back on for under a month, so I should go straight through to 9 April. I am not ready to commit to that yet though.

I am feeling the benefits and I am trying to recognise and appreciate them. I definitely feel happier, calmer and more able to cope with life - why would anyone want to give that up? (Maybe we should think of sobriety as the think we'd be giving up, instead of the other way around?)

Hugs to everyone who is struggling. You won't find any judgement on this thread Flowers

Bev Flowers

Els1e · 19/01/2020 12:40

I’m still hanging in there. Bev - missing your creative mind with the advent calendar though. Get back up on this wagon, you can do it.

AdaKirkby · 19/01/2020 13:05

I must say, I’ve found this weekend the hardest yet.

Maybe it’s because the novelty has worn off.

I would like to moderate from the end of January but would say I think total, long term, abstinence is a bit joyless for me.

SegregateMumBev · 19/01/2020 13:08

I was going to put up a cuppa tea this morning, but someone beat me to it Grin

Feeling rough this morning, definietly ready to climb back on board with you lovely lot.

Breathmiller · 19/01/2020 13:58

segregate FlowersBrew

It's good when people slip up but come back and say they feel shit.- well not good you feel shit of course. But, its a reminder that this is why we are changing our relationship with alcohol.

So...er....thanks for taking the hit for the team seg.Wink

I do hope you feel better, my lovely. Look forward to your advent input for tomorrow.

IWillWearTheGreenWillow · 19/01/2020 14:21

Nibdedibble the wooziness may be too much water. It can lower your blood pressure so you feel wobbly changing level, so to speak. Your electrolytes might also be out of whack if you're drinking lots more water than normal - cups of bouillon soup can be a quick and easy answer.

cliffdiver · 19/01/2020 15:10

Interesting how many had a drink yesterday.

Yesterday was definitely the hardest day for DH and I.

Also struggling to see any 'benefits'.

PiggyPokkyFool · 19/01/2020 15:16

Hello everyone - this is truly delicious.

I have been drinking it with diet lemonade, frozen raspberries, blackberries and cucumber that we grew in the summer - sort of like a Pimms with no Pimms even though it tastes nothing like Pimms, it tastes like a grown up drink.
I'm keeping it going - well done to all of us - those who stayed dry, those who got a bit damp and dried themselves off again, those who fell in head first and haven't had the courage to come back but are still lurking. Come one, come all.

SegregateMumBev · 19/01/2020 15:16

Oh my scales are finally moving in the right direction! Only a bit, but at least it's something.

SellMySoulForMoreSleep · 19/01/2020 15:52

Made my way through the weekend evenings but would kill for a bottle of Chablis in the fridge to go with the roast. Hey ho.
There's a 300 days sober challenge on the Try Dry app that I'm considering which is having 300 AF days in 2020. So after Jan that would make 66 (leap year!) days left meaning I could drink 6 days in each month. I think it sounds interesting...

funnyoldonion · 19/01/2020 15:54

@PiggyPokkyFool I LOVE that drink, it's my favourite 👌 so delicious! It's nice with lemonade and fresh mint too! I'm still hanging on with DJ. Definitely finding Saturday nights the hardest atm but have joined the gym, and a yoga class which I'm loving. Went swimming with the kids today too, that would never have happened with a hangover

AdaKirkby · 19/01/2020 16:26

@SellMySoulForMoreSleep

That sounds interesting, I’m going to look it up. It’s basically one night a week plus two treat nights a month.

If anyone else is interested, perhaps we could have another thread from 1st Feb?

SegregateMumBev · 19/01/2020 16:29

About to pour a pink peppercorn tonic into a large goblet with ice and a slice.

7Days · 19/01/2020 16:37

The 300 days thing sounds good, it would be a way to keep accountable to ourselves. Making sure we actually moderate not just fool ourselves about it.

This weekend has been fine for me. Though I had a big blazing clear the air row with DH last night. (Some of you may remember my DH from thread 1 with his thoughtless remark about my effort)
Hes a good husband and father with loads of great qualities but he has a tendency to sink into self absorption and needs shaking out of it periodically.
Possibly the wine I was drinking was making me the same. Sad and too lethargic to nip things in the bud, instead letting petty resentments build up.
Also am much more patient with the kids and I think am starting to see glimmers of better behaviour from our youngest.
So those are Good Things.

I'm thinking of doing Lent too, but I'm lucky being Irish, I'm allowed to Break My Fast for St Patrick's Day. Pope says so.

AdaKirkby · 19/01/2020 16:50

Yes @7days I seem to work better with a target that I’m kept accountable too.

I’m using the app, and am looking at it proudly today! I’ll look up the 300 day one too. I thread to support the app would help as well. Even though I lurk more than I post, I’ve found it supportive and motivating.

Happydays2019 · 19/01/2020 18:05

Hi all,

I've been lurking around here gaining inspiration doing dry january too. 19th day today... missing a glass/bottle on Friday after work and on a sunday while making dinner...

I've been exercising more and reading more and cleaning more but I feel I dont know a bit "blah"...maybe that passes I dont know..

Last year, I did dry January too and was back on it February...

This year, the great intention is to go till the 15th of March, ten weeks , 75 days Shock...so hopefully the "blah" feeling wont last too long...

dementedma · 19/01/2020 18:25

Still on the tonic and bitters and plodding on.
Day 20 tomorrow

Breathmiller · 19/01/2020 18:38

Well done everyone.

We had a roast dinner and as the token vegan at the table, ofyen my 'meat ' is a fake processed thing from the freezer then the crapness of it it's helped with a glass or two of red.

But my husband made the most delicious nutmeat stuffed mushrooms from scratch and I feel it was so tasty and such a treat that I didn't miss the wine one bit.

So, for me it's definitely that treat, that thing that feels really enriching that helps keep the focus away from wine

Breathmiller · 19/01/2020 18:46

@7Days
I do remember you. Good to hear things have had a clear out. Always unpleasant at the time but quite useful now and again to get things clear
