Catching up on Dancing On Ice and John Barrowman just gives me the heebie jeebies but I don't understand why? Can anyone explain?

Sparklingbrook · 11/01/2020 21:07

No, I think he's great, and very entertaining.

Sleepforever · 11/01/2020 21:09

I agree, there is something about him .....

AlaskaElfForGin · 11/01/2020 21:11

He gets right on every last one of my fucking nerves. No idea why.

Also in Camp Heebie Jeebie when it comes to Barrowman. Used to have a colleague who was OBSESSED with him, really thought he was the shizz. She convinced me to watch a DVD of one of his live shows - sweet jesus. Tedious doesn't begin to cover it

Bluewavescrashing · 11/01/2020 21:13

I've met him. He's lovely.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 11/01/2020 21:16

I quite like him when he's acting, and I've no reason to think that he's a bad or unpleasant person but I do find him very stage-school when he's being himself. Too extrovert with a full beam smile and too over-excited about absolutely everything. I think he would be exhausting to deal with in person, but then I'm an introvert so usually find extreme extroverts tiring.

WeirdAndScary · 11/01/2020 21:19

For me it's the smile. Far too many teeth on show Gives me the Heebies. Same with Tom Cruise and Julia Roberts.

(I am sure he is lovely as I've only every heard nice things but....his teeth Shock)

OhWellThatsJustGreat · 11/01/2020 21:21

I've only ever heard nice things about him, but when he first appeared in Dr Who and everytime I've seen him on TV since I've felt rather uncomfortable.

SemperIdem · 11/01/2020 21:23

I think he’s a bit...try hard, when he’s being himself? It’s almost as though he’s naturally quite a quiet person but has decided to present himself as very outgoing and extroverted, which is more difficult to act than any of his actual acting roles. Just seems a little false.

OverByYer · 11/01/2020 21:25

Nooo he’s lovely. He did some filming in my work place for Torchwood and he was so nice to everyone

Elderflower14 · 11/01/2020 21:25

I think he's great...

Unshriven · 11/01/2020 21:26

I think on the surface it's because he is overtly 'showbiz-y'. His whole public persona is quite clearly an act and he doesn't try to make it appear otherwise.

I think it unnerves people, to think they can't get a handle on him/read him.

People like that in every day life are unnerving too, they seem to be desparate to hide/run away from something inside themselves. It makes them seem dangerous, untrustworthy, unpredictable, and fucking irritating.

Spied · 11/01/2020 21:26

I get a sinister vibe

slipperywhensparticus · 11/01/2020 21:27

He was ok playing captain jack but I see what you mean I'm sure he is lovely in real life though 🤷‍♀️

KnifeAngel · 11/01/2020 21:28

I can't stand him. He has totally ruined DOI for me. Every comment is about himself. He is talentless.

PaprikaPringle · 11/01/2020 21:29
Abibranning · 11/01/2020 21:30

Lots of rumours around about him... None of them offensive, just jokes etc taken the wrong way.

Doyoumind · 11/01/2020 21:30

Too showbiz and try hard, as PPs have said. I like people who are genuine. Perhaps he is but he doesn't come across as sincere to me.

EnidButton · 11/01/2020 21:31

He's a very nice person.

Maybe you just don't like that style of entertainment. It's quite stage school pizazz, showbiz jazz hands. Which isn't for everyone.

You'd probably like him in real life.

coffeeagogo · 11/01/2020 21:31

He makes me shudder - always disliked him but no idea why

Pinkarsedfly · 11/01/2020 21:33

Because he’s Captain Jazz Hands?

He’s Lionel Blair for the 21st Century. Annoys the very tits off me.

picklemepopcorn · 11/01/2020 21:34

Totally insincere- but that's ok, he's an actor. I wouldn't judge unless I knew him pretty well, but on what we can see I'd say totally fake. That said, it could well be a protective persona allowing him a private personal life. When he was auditioning candidates for some 'musical' based talent show, one of the candidates had to kiss him and get cosy looking. She was incredibly uncomfortable, more so than I would have expected.

Pinkarsedfly · 11/01/2020 21:35

It also freaks me the fuck out when he suddenly opens his mouth and turns into Billy Connolly at the drop of a hat.

Like when you think you’re going to eat a grape and you get an olive. Nowt wrong with either, but when you’re not expecting it...Confused

Ullupullu · 11/01/2020 21:37

Because your gut is correctly telling you he is a creep. Friend of mine worked with him and he is full of crossing the line innuendo.

AmyFl · 11/01/2020 21:39

He's fake.
