Yes, creepy.
I think it’s because his eyes always seem quite cold despite the OTT smiles and jazz hands.

MajesticWhine · 11/01/2020 22:04

I loved him in Torchwood. Did not like him at all when he was on I'm a celeb. He's a bit false and vacuous.

Dave I'd say the opposite- it's a cultivated attempt to be one of the lads, a ladies' man, totally superficial insincere charm, flirtation and innuendo, to mask how uninterested he is. Presumably at some point it was important he was not 'out'.

YorkieTheRabbit · 11/01/2020 22:11

You don’t like him because he’s an irritating twat. Mystery solved Smile

fascinated · 11/01/2020 22:16

He looks like a Ken Doll in that video!

Grin works for me!

Like a killer clown.

Butchyrestingface · 12/01/2020 12:46

I heard he was a right arse to the checkout assistant at the Sainsbury’s beside Buchanan St bus station because they didn’t stock caviar of all things.

You ain’t in Kansas any more, Toto.

AnyFucker · 12/01/2020 12:47

Fake
The smile doesn't reach the eyes
Something of the night about him

That's why

Honeyroar · 12/01/2020 12:51

I know people that have met him and they all, unanimously, said he was lovely, but he does seem OTT in a dramatic, overly camp way, and I do find him extremely irritating on DOI.

maidenover · 12/01/2020 12:54

I think you either like over the over the top show biz entertainer type or you don’t. It’s ok to not like or be drawn to or like personality type (or any other personality type), it’s kind of alright to point out you find them an irritating cock, but I think it oversteps the mark to call them sinister and start making all kinds of accusations.

EachandEveryone · 12/01/2020 13:18

He was fantastic to my friends elderly grandparents, always popping by to see if they needed anything. I wont hear a bad word said about him.

picklemepopcorn · 12/01/2020 13:34

That's good to know, each.
And maiden, I agree. I'm not taken by the jazz hands persona, and think that is what makes me uncomfortable, but I'm happy to accept it is just a persona, and works for him in many ways.

beautifulstranger101 · 12/01/2020 13:37

He’s Lionel Blair for the 21st Century

Its totally this. I actually think he seems like a fun, nice guy but there is something a tad "desperate" about his showbiz-ness that bothers me.

Mysterian · 12/01/2020 13:44

He's lovely. And looks great in a uniform! Grin

Wat I found really bizarre was when he was doing a documentary and was on the phone to his parents. He sounded completely different - Scottish accent.

slipperywhensparticus · 12/01/2020 14:16

I wasnt keen on lionel blair either

Sparklingbrook · 12/01/2020 14:17

Lionel Blair is still with us, he's 91.

corythatwas · 12/01/2020 15:16

"Wat I found really bizarre was when he was doing a documentary and was on the phone to his parents. He sounded completely different - Scottish accent."

Nothing bizarre about it: he was born in Scotland to Scottish parents: they emigrated when he was a child and he was educated in the US where he had his first breakthrough. Of course he speaks the family dialect in his own family.

No personal knowledge of the man, but I do find it quite worrying that even the slightest hint of multiculturalism is perceived as bizarre. Reminds me of the time a workmate overheard me making a phone call home in my own language: she had been very chummy up to that point, but after that she grew noticeably cooler and blurted out something about how strange she felt about it.

LizzieMacQueen · 12/01/2020 15:20

I like him. He did an adorable tv show about the vet hospitable in Glasgow, few years ago now.

Totally agree with the PP who said he's developed a persona to probably mask that he was gay (in the early days) and it's stuck.

I thought he was lovely on I'm a celebrity in 2018.

LizzieVereker · 12/01/2020 15:26

I think he seems like a nice man, but he’s very “Alpha”. Always seems like he’s about to proposition or pounce on you, or about to tell a joke at someone’s expense. That type of person always makes me uncomfortable.

GertyTheGert · 12/01/2020 15:26

I agree with you - something "there" - I think its the over-trying to be absolutely wonderfully lovely in a sort of fake way - like acting school type thing - big eyes, super-smile, bouncy Tigger type thing....... like some current presenters on tv..........

Sarcelle · 12/01/2020 15:33

He was on Rylan's Radio 2 show yesterday. Together they were too much. He was very full of himself, and Rylan was being the President of his fan club. Had to turn off.

Crowlow · 12/01/2020 15:35

I find him fake and creepy. Remember him proudly talking on jonahton ross years ago about how in a musical number when he was at the back of the stage he'd whack his cock out and start hitting it on the piano while another cast member had to play it. Hmm creep.
