Our house isn't tiny but we have no loft or garage and rooms are pretty small so storage is difficult. Hoover - is a Dyson handheld attached to the wall of the under stairs cupboard. It's next to the iron and ironing board. Xmas decorations are crammed in there too. Towels are in the top of the airing cupboard over the hot water tank. Spare bedding is under each bed - our bed has drawers under and the kids have Ikea under bed storage boxes. Hairdryer is on a hook attached to the side of the chest of drawers in my bedroom.

Coats/ handbags shoes are everywhere - would love a storage cupboard for them!

PorpentinaScamander · 10/01/2020 17:16

Hairdryer/straighteners - don't own any
Hoover - its currently in the middle of the lounge but usually in the kitchen.
Christmas decs - loft
Spare towels/bedding. - airing cupboard
Coats, handbags, shoes. - everyday coats hung in hallway. Everyday shoes on shoe rack (actually a small bookcase) in hallway. Handbag goes wherever I drop it Blush. Other shoes/coats/handbags which are used less often are kept in owners wardrobe.

Also forgot to mention Really Useful Boxes and the cheaper variants. I have moved a lot in my life for various reasons and things would have been a lot easier if only I'd met them earlier...

Seems to me that absence of under stairs cupboard or hall cupboard is the big problem and Hoover is the most tricky to tuck away without a tall cupboard....and not everyone can devote a kitchen cupboard to it.

Where do you keep: .

Hairdryer/straighteners - wrap them up and leave them in the top drawer where I keep socks & underwear (although in the week it is just left plugged in as i use it and run out the door in the mornings haha!)

Hoover - leave it in the corner behind kitchen door! (about to get a cordless one you can hang on wall!

Christmas decs: under the bed!

Spare towels/bedding. in a drawer under the bed (ensured i got a bed with drawers and space underneath on the other side)

Coats, handbags, shoes - hook on back of bedroom door for the bags

I use suitcases to store spare pillows and coats we are not using and store the suitcases under the bed!

Ottoman bed! So much easy access storage underneath.
Suitcases, bedding, towels, coats (in the summer), shoes etc etc all go there.

Hoover is handheld and attached to the wall inside a cupboard (like an airing cupboard but it's not really).
Xmas decs are in a large stackable box in the same cupboard (we get a real tree).

Hairdryer and straighteners live on top of the chest of draws but in my last flat I had them on a hook on the inside of the wardrobe door!

I have no garage, or spare room and the under stairs cupboard is a loo so I have a shed outside for gardening stuff, an open log store, not for logs, but anything else (of zero worth) like stuff waiting to go to the recycling centre. My attic is boarded and has a drop down ladder for easy access.

I keep my ironing board under the sofa.
Spare pillows and duvets are in vacuum bags in the attic.
Old shelving unit in the attic stores DIY stuff.
I took out some shelves from a tall cupboard in the kitchen so in theory I could put a Hoover in there.

Other than that pretty usual apart from maybe the footstool in the lounge which is full of bags and scarves and gloves.

I plan to get some storage built over the stairs.

Hairdryer on chest of drawers as it’s used daily
straighteners - in container on above chest of drawers - if I used them regularly I’d put a hook on the wall
Hoover - bought a dyson so I could attach it to the kitchen wall and it’s In neutral colours so doesn’t stand out.
Christmas decs - in attic in 2 plastic containers, plus tree
Spare towels/bedding - built a linen cupboard and wardrobe in my bedroom
Coats - on hooks in hall or wardrobe
handbags - in footstool in lounge (Though I don’t have expensive precious bags!)
shoes - in hall or under bed

I keep my shoe and handbag collection in a 5 x 5 cube (the biggest) kallax with baskets in it. I've got 100 pairs in there.
I keep clutter and clothing to an absolute minimum but nobody is parting me from my shoe and crystals collection.

  1. Declutter so you have less stuff, this is important. Not matter how good you are you cannot store large amounts of stuff in a small place.
  1. Check Pinterest for ideas. You can search for coat storage, hoover storage, foyer ideas, etc
  1. Designate a place for everything, if it doesn't have a place, you cannot keep it. If you absolutely have to keep it then get rid of something else and use its space
  1. Search for ikea hacks on Pinterest. I have live in 8 different houses in the last 16 years and every house was improved by a visit to ikea! Their storage ideas are great and you can see the way people have used their products creatively online
  1. Under bed storage, hooks on walls/doors, shelves on walls, small chest of drawers in the right space can all give you more storage in a small area.

Hairdryer on dressing table in bedroom.

Hoover in a corner cupboard in kitchen with ironing board.

Xmas decs in loft.

Towels/bedding in a cupboard in bedroom and storage boxes under bed.

Coats on hooks in hallway. Handbags top of wardrobe. Shoes in their boxes under beds.

I am very ruthless and declutter constantly.

mamaduckbone · 10/01/2020 18:24

Hairdryer/straighteners - bottom of the wardrobe
Hoover - corner of the kitchen
Christmas decs - loft cupboard
(Don't have a loft as we had it converted into 3rd bedroom but we do have some storage in the eaves)
Spare towels/bedding - bedding is in the corner of our bedroom in those big colourful laundry bags. We do also have an airing cupboard in the bathroom with some towels in. The rest are piled on top of a wicker trunk in the bathroom
Coats, handbags, shoes - bane of my life. Coats and handbags on hooks in the hallway but there's far too many. Same with shoes - we have a narrow wooden trunk thing in the hallway but it overflows.

JellyBellies · 10/01/2020 18:33

Hairdryer/straighteners - drawer in my wardrobe

Hoover - under stairs cupboard

Christmas Dec's - loft

Spare towels/bedding - have thin inbuilt cupboard in one of the bedrooms.Store them in ikea boxes in the cupboard

Coats - the ones in use on hooks on the downstairs toilet door.

Shoes - have a shoe box bench like this

You could drill hooks to the inside of wardrobes or on the side (outside) of chests of drawers for the smaller items like hairdryer, bags, etc.
