My 3 year old child doesn't understand the stigma surrounding a toffee penny.

She's eaten them all. Bad parenting on my part, I left the room while she was watching something and I forgot the tin was on the table.

She's left all the good stuff and now we have no idea what will be the last sweetie remaining.

My money is on the plain block in the green wrapper.

I've scrubbed her teeth. Bed time was hell, I've learnt my lesson. I don't need a flaming today.

Green Triangle is the best quality street.

PuppyMonkey · 10/01/2020 12:47

I just came on here to say Bring Back the Toffee Deluxe.Sad

stilldoesntknowwhatshappening · 10/01/2020 12:47

Agree. Green triangle is the best.
But did I actually see somebody slating that solid chocolate?!

hold on hold on we had a tin at xmas and had no pennies in ours i thought they had discontinued them as they werent there we didnt have no toffee sticks either but loads of the sickly cream ones thats not fair! why did our tin miss the toffee filling machine!

FriedasCarLoad · 10/01/2020 12:52

Toffees are the best... I'd have been so disappointed!

Badabingbadabum · 10/01/2020 12:54

Love a toffee penny. They did malted toffees but they were not in the selection this year! I think the little pink wrapped fudges are lovely

Tricicorn · 10/01/2020 12:56

I had no idea they were a) called toffee pennies or b) there is a stigma around them. I’m nearly 60 and lived here all my life. How has this escaped me?

Anyhow they’re my favourites and think your DD has good taste. You get a good bang for your buck too as you can’t down them them after a quick chew. You’re in for the long haul once you have put one of those in your mouth.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 10/01/2020 12:56

Does anyone else remember that for a few years the toffee penny changed shape to more of a lozenge? There was a dark orange wrapped toffee too that tasted burnt. It was always last to go.

sunshineandshowers21 · 10/01/2020 12:57

my boyfriend eats all the toffee pennies as soon as the tin is opened in our house. he had braces for ages when he was younger and couldn’t eat them because the toffee got stuck in his braces 😂 so now he makes up for it! my fave are the pink fudge ones.

StormTreader · 10/01/2020 12:58

Toffee Pennies are easily the worst ones - I take mine to work purely because it feels like a waste to just bin them.
I resent their weight in the tin that could be used by the purple, green or fruit creme ones :D

rebecca102 · 10/01/2020 12:59

What's a toffee penny?

GrouchyKiwi · 10/01/2020 12:59

I saw a terrible thing the other day which ranked the strawberry ones as the best in the tin and I was horrified, horrified I tell you. Those and the orange ones are incontrovertibly the worst.

Stabbitha I think your child shows wisdom beyond her years and you should enrol her in Mensa.

Bunnylady54 · 10/01/2020 13:01

Quality Street has gone way down in quality ( excuse the pun) so we don’t buy it anymore. Shame as it was a Christmas staple.

PhantomErik · 10/01/2020 13:03

Toffee penny is DS1's favourite
Blue coconut is DD's favourite
DS2 loves them all Grin

iklboo · 10/01/2020 13:04

Toffee pennies and toffee finger are THE BEST sweets in Quality Street.

Haworthia · 10/01/2020 13:05

I saw that too! It was a Facebook vote wasn’t it?

The strawberry and orange creams are the WORST.

iklboo · 10/01/2020 13:06

What's a toffee penny?*

It's in Quality Street. A sweet made of caramel, roughly the size of a ore decimal penny (about £2 size). Pulls your fillings out but gorgeous and buttery.

GrouchyKiwi · 10/01/2020 13:08

It was a Facebook vote! I was most shocked that it thoroughly trounced the green triangle in the final. So much wrong.

Newyeardietstartstomorrow · 10/01/2020 13:09

I dont know what is going on with Quality Streets this year, they must have changed their chocolate recipe. Its absolutely revolting now, really waxy somehow. We checked our obligatory Christmas tin as we thought it must be out of date.

ParanoidGynodroid · 10/01/2020 13:09

Quality are rank now.
We always used to buy the huge tin at Christmas. It was 1kg in a metal tin when we started; then it magically became 900g. I think all the big chocolate tubs are now only 600g.

But yes, I agree toffee pennies were always the worst. I always had to do and get my fillings redone if I ate one. My teeth hurt at the thought of toffee.

iMatter · 10/01/2020 13:11

Toffee pennies are the best.

I also love cadbury's eclairs

Yellow and green wine gums (and possibly orange) are also far nicer than the red and black.

amusedbush · 10/01/2020 13:13

I'd fight my own granny for an orange or strawberry creme. The others I'd happily bin.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 10/01/2020 13:18

THE CRACKNELL IS THE WORST!!!!!

Toffee pennies and the green ones, along with the purple nut in caramel are the BEST!!!!

What is wrong with you, wumman? Even a small child can see the truth!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 10/01/2020 13:20

Damn right they are imatter.

But it suits me because the Common Herd leave hem all for MEEEEEE!!!!!

FAQs · 10/01/2020 13:21

I can’t believe people like the Strawberry ones, they are so sweet they make my eyebrows twitch. Green triangle ones are the superior beings.
