Too fat to lose weight?

Please don’t jump on me, I really need help :(

I am 5 foot and 21 stone. I cannot cope with being this big anymore. My weight ballooned after a trauma and now I just seem stuck. I have no fitness or stamina and my efforts so far have me feeling worse than ever.

I went swimming and could only manage ten mins before I thought I was going to be sick and had to get out.

I went for a walk today and made it 7 mins before I had to sit on a bench with a spinny head. Walking back I had pains in my calves that brought tears to my eyes.

Please help. What should I do? I can’t go to a gym like this and wouldn’t know where to start. I know I need to build up my stamina but I just don’t know how. I’ve tried slimming world a few times but lack willpower.

I think I’m going to die if I don’t change. I want to see my kids grow up.

I meant to say, a 7 minute walk will NEVER be as hard again as it was the first time.

You’re making a great start, well done!

I know people are saying you can lose weight without exercise but, for me, exercise is so important to my mental wellbeing. A 7 minute walk in the fresh air will be doing so much more for you than just burning calories. If I get out of the house and do a bit of exercise, I feel better and find it much easier to make healthier food choices. It’s a lifestyle so start with small, manageable changes. Build up from there and be proud of yourself.

Another vote for my fitness pal here too.

Well done for starting your new, healthier lifestyle!

Others have mentioned low carb already -

I did weight watchers before and had some limited success but it all went back on which is soul destroying.

If you have not tried low carb/Keto before then look into it. You could start by reading the low carb bootcamp threads on Mumsnet.

The reason why I like it is that after the first few days I don’t feel like I am needing to rely much on will power as the desire for carbs and to overeat just goes. Having been a binge eater it feels amazing to be free of those cravings and urges.

Google Tom Watson weight loss - he’s a labour politician that has lost a lot of weight and reversed type 2 diabetes by eating this way.

@Newnamewhodis1 there is no need to call me stupid just because I have an opinion in different to yours. You chose surgery, good for you. I would not choose surgery for myself, good for me. Shame there isn't a surgery that can correct your rude attitude.

@Ericveis I don't think WLS is cheating but I do think it is a huge decision not to be entered into lightly and, like many things, what is the right choice for some won't be the right choice for others.

'it is a huge decision not to be entered into lightly'. No shit @Hoik!

Hmm

What is your deal? You seem determined to pick an argument where there isn't one and to have the last word on it too.

Get to your doctor and referred to the NHS support group for weight loss.

It's very complicated as to why you're overweight and then stay overweight. You need professional support to unpick this and understand it then take action.

I bet you already know every diet going and tried most of them.

Morbid obesity is beyond slimming clubs and diet. I know.

Go to your doctor.

I think the point posters are making hoik is that OF COURSE people have tried absolutely everything first, are at their absolute wits end, by the time they consider surgery. Your posts seem to suggest people trip into such a drastic solution lightly, which comes across as patronising.

Wishihadanalgorithm · 11/01/2020 20:10

OP, I’d suggest some sort of therapy to help you find a different way with the trauma you have endured.

Your 7 minute walk is a brilliant start. I think aiming for one more minute every day would be something positive to focus upon and would be achievable.

Diet wise, you know what you’re eating has to change and I would imagine once you make some changes the weight will start to come off quite quickly. Up thread the Fast800 has been recommended and I would second this but you do need to read the book and it takes a while to get your head round it. Before beginning anything new I’d look at what you are eating now and think about the small, simple changes you could make e.g. cutting out crisps in the evening, snacking on fruit instead of biscuits.

Your weight hasn’t gone on overnight and it won’t come off overnight either but you CAN do this, OP.
