Just wondered if anyone else has been ill with a horrid bug. Cough, cold, dizziness, exhaustion, sore throat?

I've been ill nearly a week now. i thought it was going but it seems to be lingering and leaving me feeling really weak, coming in waves.

Just wondered if anyone had anything similar and if so how long it's taken to shake off!

Oh yes! It knocked me out for about 2 weeks and I'm still coughing now- about 5 weeks after it started!

WeeMadArthur · 10/01/2020 09:47

Yes! Had the cough since before Christmas but in the last week it’s really developed into what you describe, the exhaustion, stuffed head, headaches, sore throat. Is it bad that I feel happier that I’m not alone?

AmazingGreats · 10/01/2020 10:27

I feel like it's been constant lurgy since October this year. Tummy bugs, colds, coughs, infections, what may have been the flu, and now another dizzy nausea cold and sore throat bug. I've been living off sambucol and lemsip for weeks

Me too. Started a week ago with sore throat. Now off work feeling really rough, full on cold, sneezing, headache, lack of energy etc.

WomanInTheWindow · 10/01/2020 10:48

So relived to read this thread! Mine was just before Christmas. Did not know what it was as had sore throats before but this was different. The headaches and dizziness yes... and the coughing and sore throat has been awful for a teacher.

otterses · 10/01/2020 10:48

I was the same OP. Then my cough cleared up a couple of weeks about, but the sore throat and generally exhausted feeling has lingered. Colleagues bullied me into going to the doctors a couple of days ago, and it turns out I have glandular fever Sad so you really have my sympathy! It's utterly crap as well when you're parenting solo and feel like this.

closetotheaction · 10/01/2020 10:55

Yep, just been to the GP this morning and I have sinusitis and a chest infection. It's bloody miserable. I've got doxycycline which will hopefully clear it.

MurrayTheMonk · 10/01/2020 12:57

Me.
Had noro virus over Christmas and then the symptoms you have described every since.
Had Monday off work as felt awful. Couldn't take anymore time so sitting at my desk feeling truly awful.

TARSCOUT · 10/01/2020 13:08

Yes, started 13th december, mostly cleared by 30th december, came back 6th January. Out of bed lunchtime today, paracetamol and heated microwave thing on chest. Have suspicion.may have chest infection. Off.work yesterday and today. Bleugh.

Just escaped for a ride round in the car as me n OH got cabin fever. Even took the car through car wash for the excitement!! 🙄

Palmysterious · 10/01/2020 14:52

Whole family, all together in a holiday cottage, went down like skittles with it over Christmas within 48 hours of each other. Cough, sore throat, temperature, raging headache and the shivers, etc.

I’ve now been ill for two weeks. Feeling a wee bit better now but still have that awful phlegmy cough and fatigue.

One family member went back to work overseas at New Year where he saw a doctor, who did a blood test confirming he had influenza A, so guess that’s what we’ve all had.

And I had the flu vaccine in November! I know the jab doesn’t always stop you from catching flu, but hopefully having it prevented this awful bug from developing into something worse.

MirandaWest · 11/01/2020 05:19

DH said he felt a bit rough earlier on and now he feels very hot. Seems like he may have this thing as well...

WhoisitnowRalph · 11/01/2020 05:30

Oh, surprised to read this thread - us too! DH's workmate had the sore throat and cough at the beginning of Dec and still has it now; DH started with something similar the week before Christmas and is still fighting a sore throat; I went down with a horrible sore throat on New Year's Eve, thought I was better last weekend but I've been awake most of the night with the sandpaper throat and headache again.

Nothing seems to help either, I've burned through all our throat sweets so now I'm sipping endless squash to ease the pain and pissing like a racehorse.

I've got an op on Monday which may require a GA, will they turn me away? God I hope not, I've been looking forward to 2 weeks off work.

Bunbunbunny · 11/01/2020 05:42

Yep had two colds, 2nd gone to the chest been off work and given steroids and antibiotics. Asthma has kicked in big time Sad

funmummy48 · 11/01/2020 06:10

My DH and two daughters all had this one after the other from the beginning of December. It's really nasty. My DH had the best part of a week in bed and he's never ill. Same with my youngest daughter who's normally as fit as a fiddle. It really knocked her for six. Both of them are still coughing. I was waiting my turn to get it but by some miracle, I seem to have escaped it.

Crunchymum · 11/01/2020 07:28

Had it from 30th. Nausea, extreme fatigue, sore neck, back and shoulders, blocked ears, stuffy sinuses, no appetite, dizziness.

Yep lasted about 7 days for me. I was visit about feeling human when I went back to work on 6th Jan.

Crunchymum · 11/01/2020 07:28

Visit = just

Crunchymum · 11/01/2020 07:30

In the time I had the 'virus' my toddler had a chest infection and everyone - barring me - had a sickness bug.

5yo on the Fri, 2yo and 7yo on the Sat and DP on the Sunday.

StealthPussy · 11/01/2020 07:46

Yep. Ruined Xmas. Had it 2 for weeks really badly, then last 2 weeks started to improve but still coughing and blocked up.

dottiedodah · 11/01/2020 08:07

I was lucky I got through Christmas OK .However felt ill on the Friday after Boxing Day ,and DD birthday on the 28th ! Went out for Supper felt rough but ate meal .Been ill for last 2 weeks .Taken vitamins and feel a bit better .Metatone Tonic is very good for recovery too .

Dhalandchips · 11/01/2020 08:11

Mine arrived on Tuesday. Now coughing up mud. I guess I should try and get a gp appointment, I'm asthmatic so really need to knock this on the head. It's freezing /boiling thing that's baffling me most!

Geoffreythecat · 11/01/2020 08:15

Yes, I had it starting in November. Began with a razor blade sore throat, then bunged up, headache, sinus pain and exhaustion, followed by a hacking cough. It took 6 weeks to go and I lost 9lbs.

Roomba · 11/01/2020 09:20

Me and my two kids came down with this at the start of December. By Christmas, we'd all ended up with ear infections that refused to shift and DS1 and I also developed tonsillitis. Between the three of us we've taken five different courses of antibiotic tablets and we've all had antibiotic/steroid ear sprays too. The antibiotics made me really ill with stomach problems over Christmas and DS had the same problem with his over New Year.

It seems to have finally cleared up now - thank god! The first time I saw our GP with DS2 I was told 'it's viral, it will clear up by itself'. The next day we were back as he had loads of bloody gunk pouring out of his ear. I had 14yo DS1 crying in pain with his ear one night, and he is very stoic usually. I feel like we should have a chair reserved for us at the OOH clinic as we've had to visit it so much recently! I've lost 8lbs and am now officially 'underweight' so need to focus on building myself back up again now (kids seem to have bounced back fine now thank goodness). Awful bug.

magicmallow · 11/01/2020 11:58

Hope everyone is feeling a bit better! Yesterday I was pretty much feeling like it was over, today it feels like I've gone a step backwards and feeling weak and feeble again :(

I just hope that I take another step forwards again later today. Mine seems worse during the day, for some reason. :(
