Anyone else ill and feeling sorry for themselves?

I came down with a fever earlier in the week, followed by awful headache, hacking cough and today it has completed itself with random nausea - the kind where I didn’t trust myself to leave the work toilets and couldn’t see my clients. I gave up and came home, now flaked on the sofa. I feel terrible for leaving my team in the lurch having to cover my work at short notice, and just generally feel sorry for myself Sad

I had a horrible cold before Christmas which I’d only just shaken off and now this!

You are sounding very flu-like there. . . we've got similar. Two of us tucked up in bed, thanking God for school and a tumble dryer, looking like Ma and Pa Kettle.

I hope you get well soon. This is awful, isn't it? I'm so sick of, and sore from coughing!

fizzymango · 08/01/2020 12:12

@mbosnz I did wonder whether it was a mild flu. I don’t usually lose my appetite with a cold (in fact the opposite is true).
I have sore ribs from the coughing as well, as if coughing isn’t uncomfortable enough!

My son had a horrible weird flu thing the week before Christmas. He's only just turned 2. He was weak, laying down, not eating, runny nose, sore throat. Then he was sick.

Let yourself rest. Get snuggled up in bed and have a break from life. I know how you feel. I used to get that guilt when I worked. you can't help being poorly though. It's a normal part (crap part) of life. Get better soon xx

Me.
I’ve had a dreadful cough for almost 2 weeks now but I’ve not really been without a cough/cold since the end of September. At its worst if I lay down I couldn’t stop coughing, so of course, I couldn’t sleep and feel exhausted. I’ve lost my sense of taste (savoury, not sweet items?); I think I’ve pulled a muscle in my abdomen and I have sore ribs(I think) with all the coughing.
Then to top it all, yesterday I woke up with nausea, the room was spinning and every time I got out of bed I vomited.
Anyway I’ve just been to see the practice nurse and she says I’ve now got an ear infection. She’s given me something for the nausea and some antibiotics. I hope this will eventually bring it all to an end.
Sorry for the self pitying. And I hope we’ll all soon be feeling much better.

fizzymango · 09/01/2020 08:23

I’ve had to ring in sick today, I’m coughing up so much phlegm again (sorry TMI) and I just can’t sit and talk to clients all day like it and my colleagues would hate me. I’m bored already Envy (not envy but my gunk filled face)

I'm exactly the same. My first bout of full blown flu in my life. Felt terrible for 4 solid days now and work anxiety is severely setting in

fizzymango · 09/01/2020 09:24

@SaharaRoxy I’m with you on the work anxiety. Unless I get any worse, I’ll go back to work tomorrow as I have massive guilt over my team covering my work and being the current office sick note Sad

Day 4 of barely any food and vomiting. Not sure if the GP can do anything?!

I'm awaiting a call back...

Newhouse76 · 09/01/2020 10:45

Hi yes me! I have been suffering from labyrinthitis since xmas and have used up a load of planned annual leave whilst actually sick Sad

Im now signed off till today and have lost all hearing in my right ear and still feeling wobbly so have been referred for a hearing test. Hope to be feeling better soon as have parents night at school tomorrow and its miles away!

Footiefan2019 · 09/01/2020 10:53

I had this on and off for 2-3 days at a time about 3 times during the end of December and only just coming out of it properly now. All my family have had some variation of it. I’m wondering if it’s some new weird cold that’s started due to the milder wet weather.
No appetite, lost 4kg, bright green snot and constant runny nose, horrific cough esp at night, hot and cold sweats, on and off joint aching, and to cap it off horrendous diarrhea (sorry TMI!) like whatever you ate went straight through you. Horrible!!

I was taking beechams or paracetamol all of December it felt like .

Whatnametoday5 · 09/01/2020 10:57

Me too - fever, tiredness (but not able to sleep) sore throat & now feel sick - odd shaky bones feeling. No cough though.
I have now had 3 days off work :( feeling the anxiety as well of not being in work.

imfeelinit · 09/01/2020 11:00

Me too. Tonsillitis and possible glandular fever. Feel awful. Thankfully signed off work so can lay about on the couch without worrying about having to phone work.
Doctor was telling me there are a lot of viruses going around at the moment.

Ghoulestofmums · 09/01/2020 11:58

Me as well. I developed shingles just after the election (wonder if despair brought it/them on!) and am stil in a lot of pain

ClientListQueen · 09/01/2020 12:03

Yep. According to the doctor it's a nasty virus that's going around. I'm starting to feel slightly more human after two weeks not leaving the house

showgirl · 09/01/2020 12:06

Yes high temperatures, hacking cough. Now developed an attractive wheeze. It's a vile virus.

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 09/01/2020 12:15

Yup. And to add to my woes, I'm now trying to get home with an ankle joint that's just had a fuck off huge needle shoved in it and steroids pumped in.

Work are going to be seriously pissed off with me, because I'm going to be tomorrow as well. I lasted an entire 4 hours back from Christmas before being sent home for the rest of the week.

Yay. Happy new year.

ClientListQueen · 09/01/2020 12:43

To add to the attractiveness, the skin under my nose is peeling and I also have oral thrush. Frankly I'm doing work a favour staying off Grin

SaharaRoxy · 09/01/2020 12:44

Oh poor us! I'm making myself watch TV now as sitting with my eyes shut dozing in and out for 4 days is actually making me feel full blown crazy. I know rationally that I'm
Not... but I feel like I'm dying!

formerbabe · 09/01/2020 12:45

I have the same...had it for ten days now. Started off with a fever and my whole body ached. Couldn't get out of bed...slowly felt better but am left lethargic and with the most hideous hacking cough...it's driving me mad.

Goodnightjude1 · 09/01/2020 12:52

I was really ill from Dec 22nd till Jan 3rd. Flu like thing with nausea and more snot/phlegm than I’ve ever seen in my life Sad
I’m still not 100% and even doing the school run (10 min walk both ways) leaves me exhausted for an hour or so after. It’s been a real shocker!
Hope everyone else suffering is better soon!

ClientListQueen · 09/01/2020 12:53

The doctor mad me laugh as she said "ok what's up?"
Me "I feel like death"
Her "well without being more specific, I'm guessing you have the virus of doom"
Grin

SaharaRoxy · 09/01/2020 13:06

Oh dear despite the camaraderie I feel daunted that I might be day 4 into a two week stint.... SOS

ADarkandStormyKnight · 09/01/2020 13:10

Yup. Day 12. If I try to do anything, such as going to work, my temperature just goes up again. I've pulled muscles from coughing and now curl up in a ball on the floor if a full-on coughing bout starts.

SarahTancredi · 09/01/2020 13:11

Yeah me...

Really spaced out and it hurts to wear wear clothes . Debating if I'll get fired for turning up to work in jogging bottoms and a baggy t shirt no bra...

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 09/01/2020 13:15

Me too. Ds1 kindly gave dh and me a cold when he came home for Christmas (such a generous soul Hmm). Dh didn't have it too badly, and is over it now, but I have got a nastier version. I'm well into my second week of it, and I have got a horrible, convulsive cough, and (sorry for TMI) am hacking up horrible green stuff.

Talking makes me cough. Sometimes just breathing makes me cough. Dh is away, and I have the house to myself, so I can avoid talking too much, but breathing is another matter.
