... how many times a week do you wash up in the sink? Assuming everything you own is dishwasher-safe.

Anything wooden, hand painted, guided, some plastics, all non stick ALL get hand washed. So a few times a day I have a few bits to do. The dishwasher takes care of most stuff though

NetballHoop · 05/01/2020 19:49

I quite washing up. It's when I listen to The Archers.
We do one load a day s

christmasathome · 05/01/2020 20:00

Pretty much never. I might wash the odd dish but hardly ever fill the sink to do a whole wash.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 05/01/2020 20:06

I do my wooden chopping boards in hot soapy water; bottles, flasks, vintage stuff and water bottles too.

We had a big sort out of kitchen stuff to largely cull non dishwasher proof stuff.

MerryDeath · 05/01/2020 22:06

never. if it fits it's going in. if it doesn't fit i might try it anyway (why would anyone make a smoothie jug for a blender that doesn't fit in a normal dishwasher Angry)

AragonsGirl · 05/01/2020 22:10

At least once every day. I wash my saucepans by hand as I don’t want to risk them being ruined in the dishwasher, plus hand painted mugs that can’t go in there, plus the kids plastic cups that end up turned over and full of water if I put them in...
Could be worse...my brother has a dishwasher and they rarely use it as they don’t see the point

Pinkyyy · 05/01/2020 22:11

I can't believe people wash their pet food bowls in the sink 🤢

fitflopqueen · 05/01/2020 22:16

husband washes his porridge pan, bowl and mug by hand every morning. I fit in as much as possible into the dishwasher, esp glassware it goes on every night. Dogs bowl goes in too. But do handwash my bread making stuff so every 2-3 days and if dishwasher is full son will do the extras after the evening meal.

ShivD · 05/01/2020 22:19

I wash some big pans (like our wok) and the Global Knives as the dishwasher blunts them. Otherwise it all goes in.

dementedpixie · 05/01/2020 22:19

I do DH's good chefs knives and baking trays in the sink. Also water bottles and cat bowls. Everything else goes in the dishwasher

dementedpixie · 05/01/2020 22:20

Ah yes, the wok also gets hand washed

MiniGuinness · 05/01/2020 22:28

😂 where else would you do it Pinkyyy?

Pinkyyy · 05/01/2020 22:31

@MiniGuinness outside, I wouldn't wash the things I eat from in the same place as a dog dish.

Merename · 05/01/2020 22:36

My DH also does a fair bit of sink washing despite dishwasher on daily, I think it’s because he can’t stand dishes sitting on the side waiting. Yes he’s a weirdo.

dementedpixie · 05/01/2020 22:37

It's just food for animals, it's not going to kill you. I tend to do them last so there aren't bits of cat food hanging about the other dishes

dementedpixie · 05/01/2020 22:38

What do you wash them with outside? I use hot soapy water in the sink

DecemberSnow · 05/01/2020 22:39

Everyday...

Cups mostly...
We dont use a different cup after every drink, that would be crazy

ineedaholidaynow · 05/01/2020 22:39

You do realise washing up liquid cleans things Pinkyyy? Also DDog sometimes licks things that are in the dishwasher (obviously before the dishwasher has been on, not once they are cleaned)

BendyLikeBeckham · 05/01/2020 22:40

why don't people dishwash their sharp knives?? I do.

Topseyt · 05/01/2020 22:52

Pet food bowls go in the dishwasher here. So things we eat from get washed in there!! So what! Some things we cook from or eat from get washed in the sink too.

Stuff that is non-stick is hand washed as the dishwasher tends to make it that bit less non-stick each time. Sharp knives with carbon steel blades are also hand washed as the abrasive detergent and powerful action of the dishwasher can blunt them.

Other than that, everything goes in the dishwasher. Why buy a dog and bark yourself?

AvaSnowdrop · 05/01/2020 22:53

The only time I wash up is if certain items can’t go in the dishwasher (in which case I mostly avoid using them), or if I urgently need one item and don’t want to wait for the dishwasher to be full. Even kids toys and plant pots go in the dishwasher. So do sponges and cloths.

OrangeSamphire · 05/01/2020 23:04

We got rid of our dishwasher and we are so happy we did.

No more noise and weird chemical smell in the kitchen. No more forgetting to run it. No more having to rewash by hand all the things that came out covered in grit. No more cleaning rank filters.

Our kitchen is much more peaceful.

We couldn’t put wooden boards, good knives, crystal or good pans in it anyway. Barely any point to the thing. And we cook a lot...

OhWellThatsJustGreat · 05/01/2020 23:07

I wash the bottles and my manual pump before I put them in the steriliser 4 times a day if that counts?

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 05/01/2020 23:09

Daily, travel mugs & chilly bottle, that can’t go in the dw. I use the soapy water to wipe the sides down too.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 05/01/2020 23:12

OhWell you know you don’t need to wash & sterilise your pump after each use? unless the advice has changed You can put it (as a complete unit), in a freezer bag in the fridge in between pumps & just wash & sterilise once a day. I, almost, exclusively pumped with dc4(4) & almost cried when the HV told me that!
