... how many times a week do you wash up in the sink? Assuming everything you own is dishwasher-safe.

Everything that is dishwasher safe get washed in the dishwasher. Things that aren't get washed in the sink as and when necessary. There is no set pattern.

poorbuthappy · 05/01/2020 18:51

Usually after a BIG meal. So Sunday lunch there's always a few pans (gravy roast pots) which I will do by hand.
However I do all possible to avoid. And 6/7 days I manage it.

Biancadelrioisback · 05/01/2020 19:00

Sharp knives and the expensive pots and pans get handwashed. Everything else in the dishwasher

DishwasherJan · 05/01/2020 19:01

kitten looks like you and DH are a missed match

I wouldn’t even mind that much except he ALWAYS goes on about he’s the only one who ever washes up!? When he’s working everything I and kids use goes in the dishwasher and I usually put it on overnight or after breakfast. Either he or I puts it on at weekends. Where is the extra even coming from? Maybe I need cctv.

DW doesn't believe in the dishwasher as much as I do so we seem to have the worst of both worlds

Dipsydoodle · 05/01/2020 19:06

Never. Washing up is the pits.

Apileofballyhoo · 05/01/2020 19:10

If things don't fit in the dishwasher I wait for the next load. If they can't be washed in the dishwasher I don't use them much. DH washes the cat's dish by hand.

Momniscient · 05/01/2020 19:15

Well, our dishwasher goes on about every other day. We rarely cook breakfasts and both eat lunch at work most days, so it's only ever dinner stuff and mugs that go in there. So the things that get washed up are things we need daily like the cafetiere, and anything with the odd wooden handle like tools or the wok, that sort of thing. We have some glasses with painted designs and they are hand washed. So, yes, we wash up daily too, but it doesn't take long! Could be left to be done every other day tbh, and it is if we're busy, but the place is open plan, and things left on the side really irritate me. So we tend to so washing up before bed, leave them to dry overnight and put away in the morning.

If we had three kids I'm sure we'd be doing washing up every day. A dishwasher just wouldn't fit everything in!

applesauce1 · 05/01/2020 19:19

I wash sharp knives, the slightly-too-big baking tray and cut glass by hand. So I probably do 1 minute of washing up every other day.
My husband came from a proud dishwasher free household and was adamant that it would be more virtuous for us not to have a dishwasher when we first bought our house.
He did not win the argument and I have never seen him doing any washing up in 6 years.
Thank god for dishwashers.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 05/01/2020 19:22

We run ours every night. DH puts it on in the evening before coming to bed & I unload it in the morning while waiting for my coffee to brew. But I wash most of our big pots & pans by hand.

SallyLovesCheese · 05/01/2020 19:23

My DH loves our new sink, so despite having to wash up for years and complaining we don't have a dishwasher, now we have a dishwasher he doesn't use it and insists on washing up himself because he likes the sink so much. Hmm

cptartapp · 05/01/2020 19:23

Two or three times a day every day. We use the dishwasher once a week. It's running now, making a noise, and by the time it's finished I will have to get up and start again - emptying it, stacking pots and cutlery away etc etc. I could have washed up and done all that over half an hour ago.

theSnuffster · 05/01/2020 19:23

We recently got a full sized dishwasher having previously had a slimline one. I was looking forward to never washing up again but hadn't considered that the kids water bottles can't go in the dishwasher. Also the wok and the big deep baking tray don't fit. And I was given a lovely hand painted glass for Christmas which won't go in there. So we do actually wash up every day 🙄 But at least it's nowhere near as much as before when lots of stuff didn't fit.

hidinginthenightgarden · 05/01/2020 19:26

Only stuff like bin pans. I am allergic to washing up (literally!) so avoid it as much as possiblw.

o0 · 05/01/2020 19:28

I'm thinking of having my dishwasher taken out as it hasnt been used in at least 18 months! (Been in this house 2 years)

I hate it.

We wash up right after dinner and everything is put away. Job done. No bickering whose job it is to empty it, or realising stuff I need isnt washed as it wasnt put on as wasnt full yet.

I think it's me and about 6 other people that feel this way as everyone loves theirs. Grin

Lllot5 · 05/01/2020 19:29

I don’t have one now but when I did I washed pans and frying pans by hand. The cats’ bowls too.

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/01/2020 19:29

Eh? What sort of batshittery would that be?. Anything else weird he does?.

Washes clothes in the river?
Cooks food on a campfire on the patio?
Builds a tree house rather than stay in the house?.

There’s only two of us, sometimes my 14 place dw goes on twice a day if I’m baking/batch cooking.

sauvignonblancplz · 05/01/2020 19:32

I wash up quite a lot , although maybe that’s just because we’ve been eating more over Christmas.
Pots & pans mainly .

Bluetrews25 · 05/01/2020 19:33

I like washing up, too, and refused a dishwasher.
'Simple, repetitive tasks' like washing up are meant to be good for your MH - gives you time to daydream/process thoughts with part of your mind. Allegedly!

Craiglang · 05/01/2020 19:33

OMG, never. Ever. If it doesn't go in the dishwasher, I don't own it. I don't buy things that don't go in, same for clothes and the drier. Or they take their chances in the machines and if they're ruined then at least I didn't have to wash it. I loathe washing up.

SuddenArborealStop · 05/01/2020 19:34

Me never, dh frequently enough but he inherited some batshit rules on what is allowed in the dishwasher from his mother. I refuse to obey the rules and also stack it completely incorrectly so we compromised and made none of it my problem Grin

stripeypillowcase · 05/01/2020 19:35

a few items, like non stick frying pans. so hand washing a couple of times a week.

Soozikinzii · 05/01/2020 19:35

My DH is like this! says the dishwasher doesn't clean properly - it does as long as the bits are all removed from the collector and things are put in correctly -really grinds my gears

KidCaneGoat · 05/01/2020 19:37

@DishwasherJan Defo hiding in the kitchen! Or doesn’t like the dishwasher for some reason.

ElluesPichulobu · 05/01/2020 19:37

never except for the past couple of weeks. I do wash up champagne glasses but I only drink champagne at xmas and new year. everything else gets dishwashered.
