Can anyone please recommend somewhere really nice for me and DH to go for a special occasion meal? I really wanted to go to The Ivy, but they dont have availability on the date we would like to go. Im looking for somwhere that will have a whiff of luxury, but also great food and service, where we wont feel intimidated! Our budget for 2 is around £200.

All suggestions welcome. We like all sorts of food.

Thanks in advance.

Sat next to Sir t Jones at one of mine above recently. Didn’t realise for ages despite while table apparently knowing as soon as we got there !

Another vote for Cold Maggiore - the conservatory has been voted the most romantic restaurant in the UK.

Another great and very current option is Frenchie.

*Clos! Not cold!

dinkyprawn · 05/01/2020 14:29

Just the question I needed to ask, off to google!

I think The Clove Club is over budget unless you drink tap water.

For steak eaters, any branch of Hawksmoor or Goodman is fabulous.

The Bleeding Heart (at Farringdon) is lovely. Very atmospheric and romantic.

For somewhere more buzzy, Roka Mayfair (or Canary Wharf).

J Sheekey. It is never disappointing and has a lovely atmosphere as well as fabulous food and service

We ate in Darwin’s Brasserie just before Christmas. Thoroughly enjoyed; and if you like heights the view is stunning.

If you like Indian food, Veeraswamy is wonderful!

The Ledbury is lovely - very relaxed and the food is amazing.

There is a set lunch at the Ledbury within your budget. It’s years since I went (in the throes of baby and toddler life right now!) but it stuck with me as the place I’ve enjoyed the most. It’s lovely and relaxed like a pp says.

Or I can’t think of the name now but there is
The place in soho where you press the button for champagne which is a lot of fun!

MrsIH · 05/01/2020 16:16

Bob bob ricard!

Food wise, St John is one of the safest bets in London. May not be flashy enough to impress though.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 05/01/2020 16:55

Scott’s of Mayfair is very nice. V good food, v pleasant service and you don’t feel at all rushed.

catwithflowers · 05/01/2020 16:59

DameXanaduBramble we only ever do lunch there for that reason 😊. Lunch is such good value at around £70 each including half a litre of wine per person! And the red we had there last time was fabulous! Plus canapés and coffee and petit fours. The Gavroche has to be one of the best value restaurants in London for good food! Shame we have to travel 250 miles to get there or we would go more often 😅

I've just been to The Sky Garden. We went for lunch, but it was amazing views and felt a little special. At night it would be city lights views - gorgeous.

I liked the Darwin Brasserie at the Sky Garden but it isn't terribly upmarket if that's what you are looking for, and very noisy, to the point where we couldn't have a conversation at the table.

catwithflowers · 05/01/2020 17:08

Good grief, The Ledbury is expensive for lunch 😱
£135 for 4 courses!!!!!

user1494050295 · 05/01/2020 17:09

I second the Wolsey and the Delaunay which is awesome enjoy

DameXanaduBramble · 05/01/2020 17:16

@catwithflowers. It’s so amazing isn’t it. We had a special dinner there last March and paid £350 for two. Wonderful experience.

Moro?

Ooty on Baker Street. Lovely food, attentive service but not super dressy. The puddings have to be seen to be believed!
