Only once when I was about 8 for a bit of a joke.

Too many for ds in emergency medical situations Sad

takeasadsongandmakeitbetter · 04/01/2020 21:45

Quite a lot... twice in the last month:

My DS stopped breathing recently... the paramedics were in my bedroom within 4 minutes of me starting the call! So very impressed

A young woman was being attacked in our town centre a few weeks ago by a lady who appeared off her head on drugs, a member of the public had stepped in and looked to be in danger. Police arrived quickly.

Years ago my ex attacked me and was trying to kick the window of my car in

I witnessed a friend be glassed and called for police / ambulance

I called when I was a teenager to report an acquaintance was violently and racially attacking another acquaintance- he was subsequently sent to prison. I never told anyone I called and made new friends after that

There's definitely been more times... I'm so grateful for our public services and have never had a bad experience with them

SpringFan · 04/01/2020 21:47

Several times when at work -pharmacy- staff threatened with a knife, forged prescriptions and suspected cardiac arrest.
Also, farm fires twice, car in ditch on side of major A road.

Erismorn · 04/01/2020 21:48

Twice. Once for a car crash. I overtook a car that was driving erratically and realised as I passed that the passenger was giving the driver a blowjob. Couple of minutes after I passed I saw the car suddenly swerve left and lose control, shooting cross the motorway and up the verge through some trees. Thank goodness it was quiet and no other cars were involved. Found somewhere to stop and called 999.

Second time was because a friend called me and DH to tell us that he'd received a message from a mutual friend telling him she'd taken an overdose. He was out the country so we called 999 and got straight in the car. Got there just as the police and ambulance crew were breaking down the door. DH went in the ambulance with her while the very nice police officer helped me change my tyre which I'd stupidly burst hitting the curb a bit too quickly in my haste to park.

DH called 999 for me nine weeks ago when he was convinced I was about to give birth on the lounge floor. Glad he did as there was no way I'd have made the walk to the car, got in and out and then made the walk into the hospital. Gave birth 20 minutes after the paramedics got me in the hospital door.

Cotswoldmama · 04/01/2020 21:54

Once when I was 31 weeks pregnant with my first son I woke up bleeding and having contractions so went to hospital in an ambulance and had home 4 days later!

Kalim8 · 04/01/2020 21:57

3 times, once for assault against me, twice for next door neighbours potential dv

BingoLittlesUncle · 04/01/2020 21:57

Five. Four for the ambulance when various family members were taken ill and once for the police when I found a chap lying on a footpath in a park (turned out to be pissed as a fart and passed out).

VivaLeBeaver · 04/01/2020 22:01

Twice for fires.

Once for a car with no lights at 1am, passenger was using a torch out the window to light the way on a 70mph road, literally no lights on it.

At least twice for RTAs which I witnessed.

Once when I was in serious trouble and thought I was about to drown.

Quite a few times at work when we have to transfer a patient in an emergency.

Loveislandaddict · 04/01/2020 22:03

Once, 20 plus years ago, when an elderly man kept staggering on and off a busy A road.

CooCooCoo · 04/01/2020 22:06

5 times for an ambulance for DD for unstoppable fits and probably more to come til we get on top of them. Unfortunately this is the only plan of action we’ve been given so far :/

rumandbiscuits · 04/01/2020 22:08

3 times.

First time I was 16 and a boy had been punched and knocked straight out right in front of me and my friends. It was very scary he was totally out of it in just one blow.

Second time was when I was living in Manchester at university and woke up to a young girl screaming 'get off me' in the alley down the side of our student house.

Third time was when my Grandad fell and was unable to get back up and he was too heavy for me to lift. He died not long after this fall sadly Sad

mrscee · 04/01/2020 22:08

Twice once when I opened my flat door and noticed thick smoke. Turned out to be an electric fire in the lift.

2nd time when my 10 month old dd started fitting on one side of her body. She was blue lighted to hospital and diagnosed with meningitis. She made a full recovery thankfully.

lifeonaloop · 04/01/2020 22:10

Once when I was 8 because I found a dog. I got a right telling off!

Hundreds on my ex due to domestic abuse and stalking.

Once because a group of women turned up at my neighbours house and tried to beat her up.

rumandbiscuits · 04/01/2020 22:10

Oh actually 4...

4th time when I man I was supporting at the time called me in such a state he could barely talk to say he was going to kill himself. I was about an hours drive away from him and didn't know what else to do.

Honeyroar · 04/01/2020 22:12

Once for a road accident but it had already been reported.

111 has put me through to 999 a few times when I’ve called them.

7dayslater · 04/01/2020 22:14

Twice.

Once when I was five, my mum had just told me about 999 & I wanted to see if it was real. Hmm

Once when DS had croup badly.

frazzledasarock · 04/01/2020 22:16

Twice.

First time aged twelve on advice of GP, whom I’d called as my mum suffered an anaphylactic reaction to medication she’d been prescribed.

Second time on advice of midwife when I suffered a PPH and was home alone with tiny newborn. I kept apologising to the ambulance crew as I felt I was being a nuisance.

cantthinkofanythingwitty · 04/01/2020 22:17

Twice.

1st when the place I was working was held up by armed robber who held a machete to my throat and I escaped and locked my self in the staff toilets (all other staff escaped). Police were amazing!

2nd because a man was walking in the slow lane at night on the m6, pissed - got a bollocking off the call handler for not trying to remove the man myself. Wtf!

Blobbyweeble · 04/01/2020 22:19

Only once, but then I am a paramedic. 😀The time I had to was when I saw a chap fall, stopped and knew his ankle was broken, would have got him in my car but the pavement was a sheet of ice and I couldn’t stand on it let alone get him to hop. Now I carry a small bag of salt and some towels in the car to avoid that issue.
I have stopped at car accidents but an ambulance has always been called by someone else and I’m busy doing stuff.

NumbersStation · 04/01/2020 22:20

About 20 times I think. All bar one work related.

The exception was a little girl who ran straight in front of a car. I was dialling as I ran to her. I believe others did the same.

SimonJT · 04/01/2020 22:20

Three times

Once when a friend and I had been badly beaten up, I didn’t know what to do.

Second I had an allergic reaction (kiwi’s) and didn’t want to risk just using my epi-pen, I went into a second shock, so it was definitely the right decision.

The third time I butt dialled when on a run.

chumbawum · 04/01/2020 22:22

Once when I found my mum on the floor after a fall.

They were there in 2 minutes - diverted from another call that was just transport rather than emergency.

Spacerader · 04/01/2020 22:25

I've called once, when I was working in a bar in my unj days because a massive fight broke out and a man got hurt.

I've had people call 999 twice for me, once I was on a bus stop and fainted and took a while to come around and had hit my head hard as I fell, members of the public called an ambulance.

The second time I went in to labour and gave birth on the bathroom floor and my partner was coached through what to do.

Heartofglass12345 · 04/01/2020 22:30

I can't remember how many times when I was a teen because my parents were fighting. The police came but not sure if it was me that called them. Called them when one parent stabbed the other when I was early 20's.
Had to call for an ambulance when my son was about 5 weeks old as he stopped breathing and I was doing CPR on him. (Thankfully he is ok now!)
Saw a large bin on fire when I was younger (before mobile phones) and I went to the post office nearby to tell them to phone 999 and they wouldn't believe me Hmm

Fairydust00999 · 04/01/2020 22:32

Twice I can recall.

  1. When my mum and step dad were arguing and he was kicking off big time.
  2. For me, first time I had gall stone pain, I thought I was having a heart attack and dying...
Paramedics diagnosed anxiety... Hmmmm! I'm having gallbladder removed Wednesday!
