January is the most popular time of year for booking a holiday. So have you booked yours yet?

Italy in June, Greece in September and Lanzarote in December

@NoFun21, we have made a commitment not to fly for holidays this year. It is a hard (albeit first World) decision because travelling is the thing we love to do most as a family. But I can't justify flying to all of these incredible places while being simultaneously responsible for destroying it. So we will be driving to France and taking the train to North Africa. Although I guess this on itself is an indulgence really - after all, both these trips will still have a bigger carbon footprint than staying at home. I don't know, its very hard.

NoFun21 · 03/01/2020 22:06

It is really hard but I feel the same - I think it’s hypocritical to claim to care about the future of the planet we as mums are leaving our children and then be happily flying off to various foreign destinations as if nothing had changed. We will either go back to the beautiful Lyn peninsular in Wales or elsewhere by train. It’s so good to know not everyone is in climate denial cheeseismydownfall.

Centerparcs in May and Menorca in July.

I now have a bit of holiday regret, kind of wish I’d booked something different for the Summer.

GoingBackTo505 · 03/01/2020 22:11

We're going to Barcelona for 5 days in May, when DS will be 14 months. Not sure how it's goi g to go!

loutypips · 03/01/2020 22:12

Whitby in May with the family. Madrid in august by myself and canaries in October with DD
Planning a week away with my partner, but not sure where and when yet.

I am really quite surprised at the number of people here who are planning multiple long-haul trips in a single year, given the climate emergency. I get that we all make choices and almost all of us will have some areas of our lifestyle that we could / should improve with respect to our carbon footprint, but that are hard to make. For example, we live in a village and between us we drive nearly 100 miles a day to get to work/schools etc. With hindsight we should have lived in a town which would have enabled us to drive less. I'd make a different decision now, but to change it would cost tens of thousands of pounds. --And we wouldn't have had three children either.--

But not flying multiple times a year is an easy change to make and surely something we should all be doing?

I live on a tiny island in the middle of the Caribbean Sea. I have to fly everywhere, there's no option not to.

The only thing I can do is reduce my plastic waste and reuse everything I can.

But if I don't fly, I don't leave and that's not an option.

BillyAndTheSillies · 03/01/2020 23:00

Just back from Ireland, first holiday with DS(3) and DS2 who is 12 weeks. It was lovely, but stressful not having all our home comforts and DS2 refused the crib the whole time.

Taking DS1 to Disneyland Paris in March for two days and the four of us are off to Halkidiki in June.

Nothing else planned but we want to take advantage of travelling outside of school holidays before DS1 begins reception in September.

TildaTurnip · 03/01/2020 23:00

I only have a few trips booked so far but I have the following.
Toulouse
St Lucia
Italy
The Maldives
Morocco

Oh yes, just a few. Hmm

sue51 · 03/01/2020 23:01

Tuscany and Florida.

Rayn · 03/01/2020 23:02

Mmm. We are not going abroad due to climate change. Some people here are taking four or five foreign holidays flying!!

CilantroChili · 03/01/2020 23:09

France for 4 weeks. Can’t wait!

claireyjs · 03/01/2020 23:34

Booked to go with my friend and our kids aged 10, 10, 7 to the Isle of Wight at Easter. We discussed Spain but the kids said they'd rather go to IOW because it's their happy place and we have awesome adventures there!

PolloDePrimavera · 06/01/2020 10:40

Could anyone recommend a holiday with lots of football for DS (7) but which also has a pool and sun beds to keep DD (14) happy? I have seen some but they are crazy expensive!! Thanks

wondering7777 · 06/01/2020 10:52

My first baby is due in May so I’ll be staying in the UK for holidays this year.

SeaViewBliss · 06/01/2020 11:09

We're going to Florida in October - non Disney holiday.

Anything else we do this year will be in the UK and most likely to be camping.

WooMaWang · 06/01/2020 11:13

We just booked to take the kids to the Algarve at Easter, and for us to go to Switzerland in February (DP is extremely keen to go snowboarding). I'm pregnant and due in July, so we won't be going anywhere this summer. We might take the kids somewhere on this island for May half term though.
