Do tall people mind helping shorter people reach things in the supermarket?

I’ve just had to ask for help in Sainsbury’s (5’3) and it always makes me feel a bit infantile which is stupid - I can’t help being short!

The person I asked just laughed but do tall people ever get annoyed?

OP posts:
ArewebeingHAD · 02/01/2020 11:27

Not where I live.

YourOpinionIsNoted · 02/01/2020 11:28

I don't mind. I sometimes offer, and hope I'm not annoying the short person!

MadMadMad · 02/01/2020 11:28

Nope, I am only 5ft 7" but my daughters are taller and none of us mind in the slightest - we are happy to help.

Afrigginggoat · 02/01/2020 11:29

Bloody hope not!

MartyrGuacamole · 02/01/2020 11:29

I'm 5ft tall and have often had to ask. Never had anyone seem upset about it? It made my day when a lady with a Zimmer frame asked me to reach her something 😂 I was very happy to help. I wouldn't ask someone deep in conversation or concentrating on their phone/a list, or someone obviously in a hurry.

Lunafortheloveogod · 02/01/2020 11:29

I’m too short to know personally, but I know DP helps even if he just notices someone struggling without asking.

However he sits the good stuff on the third shelf at home...

UniversalTruth · 02/01/2020 11:29

Nope, don't mind (5'8) - I don't usually offer as I worry the person will feel 'infantile' as you have now confirmed Grin but will happily reach something if asked.

camelfinger · 02/01/2020 11:30

I’m not tall, but have been asked lots. Happy to help.

BloodyCats · 02/01/2020 11:31

They seem to enjoy it from my experience.

blindmansbluff · 02/01/2020 11:31

I am tall at 5'11" and I get asked pretty regularly to reach things. I don't mind in the slightest

DurhamDurham · 02/01/2020 11:32

I'm 5 2 and people seems delighted when I ask them to reach something for me in the supermarket! It's a small act of kindness which takes seconds and probably makes them feel good about helping someone. I've never been refused when I've asked for help, people tend to be nice Smile

insancerre · 02/01/2020 11:32

Dh is over six foot and us always being asked
He doesn’t mind at all

IcaMorgan · 02/01/2020 11:33

Going by the amount of people that refuse to get stuff down for me which I can’t reach in my wheelchair I’d say a lot of people are far from happy

Some days I have to ask 3-4 people before one will pass something down. Other days it can be the complete opposite and get virtually stalked round the store by someone trying to be helpful

Mrsjayy · 02/01/2020 11:33

I hope not im 5ft and can reach eff all Grinpeople are always kind and reach for me.

2020cominatcha · 02/01/2020 11:34

I don't mind at all. As a PP said, it takes seconds and it makes me feel like I've done something useful. It's not like I get asked every day.

TriangleBingoBongo · 02/01/2020 11:34

I am the same as you OP, people often offer before I need to ask. My husband is tall and will always help.

SaskiaRembrandt · 02/01/2020 11:34

I don't mind, it only takes a second and it makes someone's life a tiny bit easier.

Conversely, when I had a bad back and couldn't bend without pain, I had to ask someone to get something from the bottom shelf. So it's swings and roundabouts.

Beamur · 02/01/2020 11:34

I get asked sometimes and don't mind at all.

beautifulstranger101 · 02/01/2020 11:35

I'm tall and no, I dont mind a bit. I'm happy to help someone!

DatsunCogs · 02/01/2020 11:35

I asked a woman recently and she said no! Was a bit shocked tbh. I sometimes take a nearby product and use it to gently knock down what I'm after rather than ask, Id rather not if possible.

chipsandgin · 02/01/2020 11:35

I’m 6’ & don’t mind at all!

avocadochocolate · 02/01/2020 11:35

I'm tall and often get asked to reach things. I feel pleased to be useful to be honest.

On the other hand, I have had glares from people sitting in front of me in squashed theatre seating because my knees are digging into their seat...... nothing I can do about that.

PityParty4one · 02/01/2020 11:36

I am just under 6ft and get asked to reach stuff by strangers on a regular basis.
It has never bothered me and it never occurred to me to mind iyswim.

BaubleTheLumpOfCoal · 02/01/2020 11:36

I'm 5ft with a seriously bad back.
Every shopping trip involves me asking a stranger to reach something for me - it's either that or attempt to clamber up the shelves Grin

corlan · 02/01/2020 11:36

I don't mind - it's not your fault you're short.
