Do tall people mind helping shorter people reach things in the supermarket?

I’ve just had to ask for help in Sainsbury’s (5’3) and it always makes me feel a bit infantile which is stupid - I can’t help being short!

The person I asked just laughed but do tall people ever get annoyed?

I’m not tall but have been asked by wheelchair users if I could fetch something off a shelf out of their reach. Never had a problem with it and always had a bit of banter with the person so hopefully they didn’t feel embarrassed.

DH is very tall so gets asked a lot, he’s always happy to help. Quite often by me!

Folk help me quite often. The boy in Tesco showed me the pull out thing for the high up wine which has been invaluable. It's always worse having to ask for booze to be passed down.

Me: And another...one more...ach! Another again, thanks.

Helpful tall person:😲

I don't mind at all!

I'm only 5' 7.5, so I enjoy a brief moment of feeling tall.

jmh740 · 02/01/2020 20:41

I'm tall and often get asked to reach things for people, dont mind a bit.

CurlsandCurves · 02/01/2020 20:56

My mum is 5ft and I’m 5ft9. I’m well used to it and happy to help.

My DH is tall, so he is often asked. People sometimes mistake him for the manager, because when he does supermarket shopping, he always strides about with a sense of purpose, as if he owns the place. Wink

I’m tall and often get asked to reach high items. Doesn’t bother me, I’m happy to help!

Pipandmum · 02/01/2020 21:27

No I don't mind at all. My height is one of my best assets.

Wolfcub · 02/01/2020 21:27

I get asked a lot (I'm only 5'7). I never mind.

Ardnassa · 02/01/2020 21:27

Not in the slightest. I often offer if I see someone struggling to reach.

weegiemum · 02/01/2020 21:27

I'm not short but am disabled and use the ride-on thingys in Tesco. People are always offering to help me reach things so it can't be that annoying!

LemonPrism · 02/01/2020 21:28

Lol, DP gets asked a lot - just yesterday a wee lady asked for help getting some Fanta down.

He doesnt mind, actually quite likes it as it makes him feel all helpful and like he's done a nice thing. Especially likes when elderly men or women give him the old 'excuse me young man, you're a strapping lad would you mind lending me a hand?'

The ladies always wink at me too Grin

@AlecOrAlonzo - The boy in Tesco showed me the pull out thing for the high up wine

What pull out thing and where do I find it?

coiner · 02/01/2020 22:29

DH and I are both over 6 foot. Always happy to lend a few practical inches!

laffer · 02/01/2020 22:50

Not quite the same thing, I used to have a uniform that was almost identical to the one the staff in Toys'R'Us wore. I often helped old ladies find the specific In the Night Garden toy they were looking for, or some such. They obviously assumed I worked there but I was happy to help and when they realised I wasn't an employee it gave us both a wee laugh.

JockTamsonsBairns · 02/01/2020 22:50

I'm 5'4, so not unusually short, and I usually manage to get what I need off the shelves. Just last week though, when I was doing a big shop, I needed something from a high shelf that was towards the back. I could just get my fingertips to it, but couldn't get a grip on it to lift it down. Thankfully, there was a group of lovely teenage boys up the aisle, and one came to help. He even said if I needed anything else I was just to ask. He was very charming, and I'm sure his parents would be very proud Grin

DingDongMerrilyOnThigh · 02/01/2020 22:55

Aidan Turner once asked me to pass him a packet of pasta in Sainsbury's. He is the size of a hobbit.

Grinnah...dwarves are taller than hobbits and he was tall for a dwarf.

I've never known anyone be other than happy to help me (5'1") - top shelf of supermarkets and sometimes overhead lockers in planes.

userxx · 02/01/2020 23:02

Doesn't bother me at all.
