Do tall people mind helping shorter people reach things in the supermarket?

I’ve just had to ask for help in Sainsbury’s (5’3) and it always makes me feel a bit infantile which is stupid - I can’t help being short!

The person I asked just laughed but do tall people ever get annoyed?

OP posts:
SaskiaRembrandt · 02/01/2020 11:36

IcaMorgan that's terrible! I can't imagine why anyone would refuse.

chipsandgin · 02/01/2020 11:36

(& with those that don’t that’s clearly a people problem not a height one - being an unhelpful arsehole isn’t height related!)

oldsizenines · 02/01/2020 11:36

I'm 4'11" and ask people to help me. No one has ever seemed to mind. I asked an older chap once who then asked me to get something from a bottom shelf for him as he couldn't bend down. Works both ways!

EllebellyBeeblebrox · 02/01/2020 11:36

No I like to help. If I can see someone struggling I usually offer first

Lordfrontpaw · 02/01/2020 11:37

I'm not very tall but I usually offer to help when I see someone struggling to reach something. I don't mind if people ask either.

motherofawhirlwind · 02/01/2020 11:38

Nope, as long as you don't make jokes about it i.e. What's the weather like up there? That's just rude.

mangomama91 · 02/01/2020 11:39

I'm about 5ft/5ft 1 and if noone is around to help and I cant reach by standing on the bottom shelf or my daughter (7) is with me I lift her up and she helps me 😂

My husband has helped others reach things a few times before, normally just goes in and offers, he definitely doesn't get annoyed

MrsPMT · 02/01/2020 11:39

I get asked sometimes (not especially tall but taller than some) and don't mind at all.

beautifulstranger101 · 02/01/2020 11:39

Agreed. I HATE comments like that. WTF do people need to point out to me I'm tall? I dont go up to strangers and point out the bloody obvious eg. "Hi- you've got brown hair!".
Its moronic.

Southmouth · 02/01/2020 11:39

@IcaMorgan Do people actually outright refuse? That’s Awful!

I’ve often got something down for someone and have no problem helping at all!

bigbluebus · 02/01/2020 11:40

I'm 5' 9 and get asked quite a bit. I don't mind at all. The person asking is usually apologetic and comments on their 'shortness'. I usually joke about how I struggle with getting things off the bottom shelf if they're not right at the front - although I'm still young and able enough to get down there for now!

Strongmummy · 02/01/2020 11:42

No I would always help someone !!!!

vampirethriller · 02/01/2020 11:44

I don't mind at all.

Drabarni · 02/01/2020 11:44

I'm 4ft 11 and really struggle.
I've often wondered if people are happy to help. I have to ask quite often and find most people to be very sympathetic.
Quite often they will add a comment about making shelves too high.

The worst isn't supermarkets though, it's clothes shops too. Half the time the staff can't reach the top rails either.

Thank you to all the taller people who offer help or are happy to help if asked, us littlies do appreciate it. Thanks

AgeLikeWine · 02/01/2020 11:45

Not at all. I’m 5’11 and I’m always happy to help out the vertically challenged when I can Wink. Only last week I grabbed a bottle of wine from the top shelf for someone.

TwentyViginti · 02/01/2020 11:46

5' 9" here. Don't mind at all! often offer.

BarbaraofSeville · 02/01/2020 11:46

You'd have to be a not very nice person to mind helping people out like this.

I'm slightly taller than average and always offer to help anyone I see struggling to reach a high shelf, especially as sometimes a shorter person can cause a danger by pulling multiple things down that they can just reach.

TheHumansAreDefinitelyDead · 02/01/2020 11:46

I am 6ft and I love being asked as it makes e feel useful Grin

champagneandfromage50 · 02/01/2020 11:47

It doesn't bother me at all and if I see someone struggling to reach I offer to help. You can't help being too short to reach. I am 6ft and need help sometimes too

Fingernail · 02/01/2020 11:48

5’10” and don’t mind at all!

candycane22 · 02/01/2020 11:49

I climb

BarbaraofSeville · 02/01/2020 11:49

The worst isn't supermarkets though, it's clothes shops too

M&S are especially bad for this with their shoes. They put the size 3 shoes, which are very likely to be worn by shorter people on the top shelf at the eyeline of people like me at 5'7 and the size 7s that I want on the bottom shelf so I have to crouch right down with my long legs in a cramped space to get them.

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 02/01/2020 11:50

I am a shorty too OP and never had any issue from any taller person I have asked to assist me . They have got me whatever product is too high and handed me it.

MarshaBradyo · 02/01/2020 11:50

I don’t mind

Suenahmi · 02/01/2020 11:51

I like it, makes me feel useful
