Have you ever seen a reverse?

Gets mentioned all the time, as in 'is this a reverse'?

I've never seen one in all my years here. Not once.

Have you? Can you link to one?

I think it's a MN urban myth

Toomanygerbils · 02/01/2020 03:54

Is this a reverse pretending to not know a reverse????

Happinessinapeartree · 02/01/2020 03:58

OMG. Am I an unintentional reverse reverse?

Confused
OP posts:
BlackCatSleeping · 02/01/2020 04:13

Yes, I have seen reverses. They are usually very obvious. The main problem is that when the OP posts halfway through that it’s a reverse people don’t read the update so keep sticking in the boot. I have no idea why people post them, it’s possible for both sides to be wrong.

SoleBizzz · 02/01/2020 04:15

.htym a era sdaerht desreveR

Russell19 · 02/01/2020 04:16

One of my first posts on here was a reverse before I knew the MN etiquette and how much reverses are hated! I just wanted opinions without bias. If you search my username the thread is still there or I will try and link it.

theflushedzebra · 02/01/2020 04:17

I've seen many reverses over the years. They're written to get majority YABU responses, and are usually fairly obvious, because they're written from the pov of someone who thinks the other side is being unreasonable.

GiveMeAllTheGin8 · 02/01/2020 04:23

I see them a lot!

TaxFool · 02/01/2020 04:26

They are extremely common and extremely annoying. Especially when OP reveals half way through page 5 and the next 50 replies are still answering the opening post.

BlackCatSleeping · 02/01/2020 05:00

Hi, I'm a size 14 and I'm really lazy and don't take much care over my appearance. My coworker is a size 6. She's really sporty and pretty and I'm really jealous of her. I often like to eat at my desk at work. I sit there munching crisps and chocolate bars throughout the day. Last week, I told my coworker that it was unfair that she was so slim and I'm so fat. She told me that I should try snacking less in a really kind and reasonable way. I'm now sulking and not speaking to my coworker. IABU?

😂

IvinghoeBeacon · 02/01/2020 05:42

Yes I’ve seen quite a few. They are usually very obvious. I have also been here years

Happinessinapeartree · 02/01/2020 06:39

How long did that take you, @Solebiz? Wink (I was going to type it backwards but my head hurt after one word).

I've seen lots of threads that look like a reverse but never one that the Op has then admitted is a reverse.

OP posts:
IvinghoeBeacon · 02/01/2020 07:02

There was one only the other day where the op admitted it iirc

KenAdams · 02/01/2020 08:20

Yes loads. A lot of them get deleted. MNHQ asked whether or not people wanted the last one deleted and most of us said we did so it went.

Soontobe60 · 02/01/2020 13:07

@KenAdams
Which one was that???

oldsizenines · 02/01/2020 13:17

What is a reverse? I'm pretty new to MN.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 02/01/2020 13:19

I have seen some.
Even more annoying is when something really seems like a reverse but the op denies it.

APatchyTomCat · 02/01/2020 13:23

I've seen reverse threads.

I've also seen threads that are going so badly for the OP that they claim they're a reverse to try and quell the virtual battering Grin. That happens less now that MNHQ agree to delete threads (for 'privacy reasons' obvs)

iklboo · 02/01/2020 13:25

Bloody hundreds!

A reverse is where the OP starts a thread from the 'other' person's point of view. Usually something really outlandish like

'My OH will only have sex every fourth Thursday of the month and likes me to dress up as Charlie Chaplin. I find it a turn off. AIBU'

Poster is the Charlie fetishest and thinks they're being hard done by because their OH has says they're weird.

DramaAlpaca · 02/01/2020 13:26

I've seen loads over the years.

theflushedzebra · 02/01/2020 13:29

This is a reverse thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/a2241614-To-expect-this-woman-to-help-me#50863364

GertiMJN · 02/01/2020 13:30

Yes - they crop up fairly regularly.

Daisydoola · 02/01/2020 13:38

Loads of times.

There is one now gathering pace I think.

Happinessinapeartree · 02/01/2020 13:39

@theflush

Thank you!!!!

That is the first reverse I've ever read. I feel I've graduated and earned some sort of honour.

Smile
OP posts:
Soubriquet · 02/01/2020 13:41

Yes. They are very annoying to read as you feel yourself getting annoyed, give out advice and then realise it’s a reverse and it doesn’t help at all

tomatoflower · 02/01/2020 13:43

@theflushedzebra that was the first reverse I ever read on here and it came to mind as soon as I opened this thread.
