Need a new oven, do they still come with a plug?

The ones I'm looking at say they need installed, we are skint and want a basic oven with a plug dh can fit in the space the old one is on. The old one has a plug.
Has things changed that they don't have plugs now?

All the ovens I've had in the last few years (I am hard on ovens and can only afford cheap ones) have had to be hard wired in.

Mintjulia · 30/12/2019 14:11

Only the microwave/grill things come with plugs as far as I know.

A cooker circuit is high voltage and the appliance needs to be hardwired in.

VirtualHamster · 30/12/2019 14:13

Do you mean an oven (i.e. no hob) or a cooker (hob and oven combined)?

Our oven has a plug and doesn't require dedicated wiring.

Electric ovens will need hardwiring in, gas oven need to be installed by gas safe engineer, they do also just have a standard plug for the ignition switch.

Mintjulia · 30/12/2019 14:16

I’m wrong. I’ve just checked Argos and they do a couple of lower power cookers with plugs.

ssd · 30/12/2019 14:16

It's an oven that sits in a built kitchen but it's not integrated. The last one was out ikea, 99 quid, fitted into the space and plugged in at the back. The ones I'm looking to replace it are 90 quid for installation. So I want a plug. It's just an oven, not a hob.

Cheers I'll check argos

Our electric oven is plugged in.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 30/12/2019 14:19

Can you find a local person to install it rather than someone with whoever you buy the oven from, usually much cheaper?

Reallybadidea · 30/12/2019 14:19

Bit OT but if it's just the element that has gone then it's super easy to replace it yourself and will probably be much cheaper than buying new one.

VirtualHamster · 30/12/2019 14:21

Just an oven and you should be able to find a replacement that just needs to be slotted and plugged in.

LIZS · 30/12/2019 14:23

Ours is plugged in.

Noflora · 30/12/2019 14:28

Lower power use ovens that have a plug do exist, look at Smeg single ovens. Installing a more pwerful one can be costly because the electrician may need to upgrade the electrical supply and fit a separate breaker.

PhonicTheHedgehog · 30/12/2019 14:28

I’ve never had a plugged in one but I’ve never had to pay. A neighbour did my first one. The same neighbour taught my DP and now he does it. It’s just two wires I think . Thinking about it now neighbour could have taught me but I think I was really ill when oven went and was in hospital...
You obviously don’t mess about with the house electrics on so you need a reasonable standard of sensible ness.

Oldraver · 30/12/2019 14:37

AO dosme that come with plugs.

Look at the filters and there is on for 'instalation requirements and tick the ..'comes with plug, no electrician required'

Oldraver · 30/12/2019 14:38

PastTippingPoint · 30/12/2019 14:39

Bloody good oven as well.

Samlew89 · 30/12/2019 16:35

My cooker is gas but has a plug. The plug is for the ignition to light the gas! Hope this helps. My cooker is older but newer ones I have seen some have the same

StrongerThanIThought76 · 30/12/2019 17:59

Go to currys website, filter the ovens page to only show ovens with plugs (or exclude those which need electrician installation)

StrongerThanIThought76 · 30/12/2019 18:02

(it's under the installation filter - requires gas fitter/requires electrician/comes with a plug)
