I just cannot understand how a young, vulnerable woman can be treated this way by police and the court. Whatever the uncertainties, it just seems so wrong that she has been held, kept in prison, kept from family, while twelve potential rapists have been allowed home.

Conspiracy and incitement to rape are ugly crimes.

Men wouldn't do these despicable things if they weren't almost certain they lived in a society that allowed them to get away with it. Angry

stargazer2030 · 07/01/2020 22:20

I believe her and am disgusted by some of the responses on here. I for one will not visit Cyprus and definitely discourage my adult children from doing so.

Glad to see she's back in the UK now.

Esspee · 07/01/2020 22:30

We were planning to go Cyprus this year. Plans have changed.

K0612 · 07/01/2020 22:34

Has anyone heard the Jeremy vine interview by a mother who's daughter was raped in Cyprus 15 years ago? Other than it was one man rather than 12 it's disturbingly similar.

@LotteLupin - I found your post really interesting & sadly it makes a lot of sense.

It's always about the money Sad

LotteLupin is probably bang on the money regarding Cyprus & the loss of tourist dollars from Israel.
The truth usually outs eventually.

And my heart goes out to her and her family. I hope she recovers, heals and finds strength.

I agree Cyprus should now have a foreign office warning. British girls are clearly unsafe there.

TheAzzzeeee · 08/01/2020 04:37

You don't need a "foreign office" warning .. Have some guts boycott Cyprus and any Airline that flies there and any Package holiday company that has deals there .. Within 1 month watch them beg.. Praise to the women from Israel who turned up to support her..

MrsTerryPratchett · 08/01/2020 05:53

You don't need a "foreign office" warning .. Have some guts boycott

Everyone with any sense and a vagina will boycott them. But a Foreign Office warning additionally says 'our country acknowledges women, and their safety, are actually important'. Not just warnings when men might stub their toe. It acknowledges that women are human beings. That the UK thinks women are human. Pretty fucking low bar but there you have it.

puds11 · 08/01/2020 06:07

I believe her. The people who don’t are the reason women don’t report rape.

HoofWankingSpangleCunt · 08/01/2020 06:22

I believe her.

Israel doesn't just provide tourists and their dollars. From what I can recall, there is significant Israeli investment and business dollars currently being funnelled into Cyprus. It is always about the money. Men wield the power and hold the purse strings. Women will always be the victims when men get rich.

Pulpfiction1 · 08/01/2020 08:15

They were discussing the case on lbc yesterday and someone claimed they had seen the film and it showed concent.

I haven't seen the film and I don't want too. But I'm confused as to why people are saying the film shows consent when the girl clearly didn't consent based on her account and behaviour alone. Does anyone know what the film is alleged to contain that somehow proves she consented.

Devereux1 · 08/01/2020 08:19

Pulpfiction1 Be braced for some awful comments. I asked the same question and was accused of all sorts of things and received a barrage of bizarre accusations. Some posters don't want there to be any discussion of the video.

Soffy · 08/01/2020 08:52

I haven't seen the film either, but perhaps it's from the consensual sex with the first man. It could also be fake.

I suppose the point being that she should have a trial so all evidence could be presented , if the film exists and is used against her then it should only be at that point once it's been validated as genuine. But I dont know whether that works the same in Cyprus. If the Cypriot police had seen the video and from that decided there was no case to answer then I dont know how that system works but presumably if it exists as described and they had a legal way of using it to drop the charges then they would have followed the correct channels and released a statement to say as much.
