How can this news story be right (Aiya Napa rape allegation)?

I just cannot understand how a young, vulnerable woman can be treated this way by police and the court. Whatever the uncertainties, it just seems so wrong that she has been held, kept in prison, kept from family, while twelve potential rapists have been allowed home.

I have one friend who at a festival made a bet with another girl as to who could have sex with the most men in one night. They both scored above 12 that night.

That's very different to 12 at once!

TriangleBingoBongo · 07/01/2020 10:20

Just like unbelievable on Netflix. Absolutely tragic, my heart goes out to her.

fishonabicycle · 07/01/2020 10:22

It's got nothing to do with being 'slutty' (which is a really nasty word by the way). It's to do with the fact that it would be unpleasant. And that woman in Cyprus had internal injuries because of it.

EskiVodkaCranberry · 07/01/2020 10:28

I've no sympathy for 12 men celebrating with champagne having previously watched each other have sex with a teenager
I believe her and hope lessons are learned

PlanDeRaccordement · 07/01/2020 10:31

Fishonbicycle,

Internal injuries would be evidence of rape. I agree there.
But not a prudish preconception of the number of men a woman can consent to sex with.
Orgies and group sex have been around for centuries with women as consenting and enthusiastic participants.
The world record for number of men with one woman in immediate succession is 919.

StuckBetweenDarknessAndLight · 07/01/2020 10:31

Poor girl. I believe her. I hope she can access therapy to help her come to terms with her ordeal.

PlanDeRaccordement · 07/01/2020 10:36

That's very different to 12 at once!
Not really that different because can’t have sex with 12 all at the same time. It’s physically impossible. You’re going to be switching partner(s). Which is what my friend and her competitor did.

sqirrelfriends · 07/01/2020 10:38

I feel so sorry for her and her family, nightmare situation just made 100 times worse by that piss poor judge. How could anyone be so cruel?

Changename5000 · 07/01/2020 10:49

The reporting on this is terrible

"Found guilty of lieing"

Nothing else

Poor girl, I believe her

Frothybothie · 07/01/2020 10:54

At least there seems to be global compliance on not naming her.

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 07/01/2020 10:56

Did you see the report on the pattern of bruising that the judge refused to consider? Have you real the descriptions of her ptsd ? Our courts have a lot to be desired but this one takes the biscuit.

Frothybothie · 07/01/2020 10:58

Hopefully the support for her can be channelled into help for all women who suffer gang-rape in this country and overseas. I'm thinking of Rochdale, Rotherham, Govanhill, Oxford, Birmingham, Telford, Manchester, Blackburn, Keighley, Leeds, Bradford and the countless other areas surpressed by some feminist activists and some areas of the media for "community cohesion".

TheMarzipanDildo · 07/01/2020 11:01

Very very few people would be willing to put themselves through the shit of a rape trial if they hadn’t actually been raped.

GroggyLegs · 07/01/2020 12:41

surpressed by some feminist activists

What do you mean @Frothybothie? Media I can comprehend but why would people who centre women sweep this under the rug? That's shocking.

FWIW I believe her.

ThePeckOfPickledPeppersPeterPi · 07/01/2020 18:19

Even "best"-case scenario, these are not nice men. They are men who were willing to assume consent from a bruised, lone teenager, and that penetrate her one after the other. And men who celebrated in the aftermath.

I believe her.

OP posts:
MiniMum97 · 07/01/2020 18:27

The fact that she has injuries consistent with rape and was questioned for hours without legal representation and funnily enough she then retracted her allegations!

I believe her.

She was gang raped and then held against her will for months and put through a trial. Horrific that this should be allowed to happen.

CallmeAngelina · 07/01/2020 18:57

Well, I'll put my hand up to being a prude by saying that I'm not impressed by anyone, male or female, who makes a bet with a friend as to how many people they can have sex with in one night.

Jesus. I would say that I don't envy you your choice of friends, PlanDeRaccordement

Patroclus · 07/01/2020 18:58

Classy Israelis and Cypriots screaming at her from outside the court.

Devereux1 · 07/01/2020 19:01

Bit of a peculiar comment. In this best-case scenario all parties would come out smelling of a gutter, not just the men.

KenzoBaby · 07/01/2020 19:03

That young lady has suffered:

  1. a gang rape
  2. bullying by police
  3. being convicted of lying by an unspeakably vile judge
  4. Not seeing the men convicted
  5. The UK failing to help.

I am so very sorry for her. Shame on all those involved. Including those who failed to help her.

KenzoBaby · 07/01/2020 19:06

Sorry I forgot to add:
6) she spent a month in jail

Taswama · 07/01/2020 19:14

I believe her.

RuffleCrow · 07/01/2020 19:34

I suspect the only reason this particular case has made the news is that she's British. Not disparaging her, what she's gone through is utterly disgusting - just saying Cypriot women probably face similar most weeks of the year. And let's not pretend Britain has any kind of moral highground when it comes to successful prosecutions against rapists or that we have any kind progressive outlook on women's rights these days. Sad

Hatetheendof · 07/01/2020 20:00

Classy Israelis and Cypriots screaming at her from outside the court. I understood most were there in support of her? Happy to stand corrected though.

Verily1 · 07/01/2020 20:04

I believe her

The victim blaming here is disgusting.

A rape is not a ‘regretted ONS’ FFS
